Chapter 129: The Man Who Owns the Entire B2 Floor

The hype for Immortal Path had been built up way too high. But then the first trailer dropped… and it was like they were force-fed crap. Everyone online was pissed and venting in the comments when — boom — out of nowhere, three new trailers popped up.

All at once. People were completely confused.

Still, curiosity got the better of them. One by one, netizens started clicking on the trailers in order.

Each one was under ten minutes, so most people quickly finished watching all three.

And after watching? They couldn’t help themselves — they had to vote.

Once they voted, then came the real fun: spamming the comment section with reactions, likes, and reposts.

— Whoever edited Trailer 1 — are they even human? That was god-tier. Every shot was either jaw-droppingly beautiful or heartbreakingly tragic. No cheesy spins, no dramatic jumps with closed eyes, no insane filters or random background music. They didn’t rely on music to force emotion — it was all about the acting and the visuals. Every near-miss, every intense eye contact moment, even the shape of every single drop of blood and every line of dialogue… all of it gave me chills. (I’m talking about Trailer 1, okay? Let’s make that clear — Trailer 3, don’t even try to ride its coattails.)

— Trailer 2 was solid too! The BGM was kinda loud and the logic was a bit messy, but still miles better than Trailer 3!

— People who bailed out of Trailer 3 in the first three seconds — gather here!

— Looking at all three trailers, the basic plot is the same, so they clearly used the same script — but a lot of scenes are different. It’s obvious they were cut by three different editing teams.

— My poor eyes… They were burned by Trailer 3, but after watching Trailer 1, they were healed and could see the light again 😭.

— So… who edited the first two trailers? @ImmortalPathOfficial we need answers!

— Why does Li Yang only show up twice in Trailer 1?! I mean, even just one shot of him made me fall for him all over again, but still… such a waste!

— +1111! With editing this good, why the heck did they release Trailer 3 first just to burn our eyes? I don’t get it!

— I beg you — please let the actual show be like Trailer 1, or I swear I’m gonna lose it!

Just thirty minutes later, the latest post on Immortal Path’s official account had even more comments than the last one.

But the mood was totally different.

The last post? 99% hate.

This one? 90% praise — all for the newly dropped Trailer 1 and Trailer 2.

The voting results underneath the post showed just how much people cared.

Trailer 1 was way ahead in the polls.

Trailer 2? Only about a third of Trailer 1’s votes.

Trailer 3? Let’s just say… barely scraped a few hundred. Brutal.

It was obvious: out of all the re-released trailers, Trailer 1 had completely won people over.

Two hours later, the Immortal Path team sat back, grinning at the analytics. Everything was looking good. They scheduled their next post with the finalized caption.

@ImmortalPathOfficial:

Trailer 1 by @ShenXiu

Trailer 2 by the Immortal Path editing team

Trailer 3 by the director @XuanJi

Did you guess right? 🐶

The moment the post went up, the system auto-shared it.

And fans of Shen Xiu — aka the “Xiuologists” — were shook.

— I can’t believe it! But then again…

— Sister, I get you! It’s like, ‘Oh, it’s Shen Xiu? Never mind then — all’s good!’ 😂

— I’ve got this wild theory — don’t roast me if I’m wrong — but… could it be that our boy Xiu took on the role of Li Yang in Immortal Path just to grind EXP? And while he was at it, figured he might as well level up his editing skills too?

— Wait wait wait — does this mean Xiu-baby’s gonna play the main lead next time?! Aaaaah I’m so hyped!!

— Ahem, as much as we all wanna see more of Xiu-baby, let’s not forget — he’s still a student. Probably doesn’t have that much free time.

In Shen Xiu’s comment section, aside from the usual praise, there was also that signature line from his fans:

— Ah, it’s Shen Xiu? Oh okay, no worries then.”

— full of pride and affection from the self-proclaimed Xiuologists.

They swear they’re not trying to sound smug about having such a talented idol…

But honestly, Shen Xiu’s just that good — they can’t help it.

Over in Immortal Path’s editing team’s comment section, fans were practically begging them to go learn from Shen Xiu.

The team’s social media manager was like: “Absolutely! We’ll be asking him for tips for sure!”

Meanwhile, over on Director Xuan Ji’s repost of the trailer…

Yikes.

It was basically just people yelling at him — telling him to stay far, far away from the editing team in the future.

By 3 p.m., Xuan Ji personally dropped Shen Xiu off at home.

Though he had already decided to take Shen Xiu’s advice and return to his studies, he couldn’t help but peek at the comment section on his phone.

And when he saw everyone roasting him mercilessly… yeah. He cracked.

Feeling hurt and lowkey defeated, he made a dramatic apology post:

@XuanJi: I’m sorry. Really, truly sorry for letting everyone down. Please stop yelling at me — I get it, okay? I messed up. I’m going back to school, and from now on, Assistant Director @ZhaoHeng will be handling most of the work.

— Wait… that’s it? He gave in that fast? No way that’s real.”

— No really — he swears! Said if he ever touches Immortal Path again, you can call him a dog!

— Case closed. He must’ve gotten verbally destroyed by the Great Demon King Xiu himself 😂

— Now I really wanna know what Xiu-baby said to break Director Xuan so badly he ran back to school.

— You gotta respect someone who listens to reason. Honestly, not a bad move. Even Boss Xiu is still in school.

Thanks to Director Xuan Ji’s earlier… questionable choices, Immortal Path went from hotly anticipated to a full-on flop — basically, it was “famous for being infamous.”

But now, with Xuan Ji owning up to his mistakes and publicly apologizing, and with the release of the new trailers turning the tide, public anger was cooling off. Excitement was back, curiosity was spreading like wildfire, and more and more people were actually looking forward to the show again.

Honestly? It was a blessing in disguise for Immortal Path.

Of course, there were still people suspicious that this was all just one big marketing stunt orchestrated by Xuan Ji himself.

But Xuan Ji didn’t bother engaging with that. After apologizing, he stepped back from Weibo and started focusing seriously on his study abroad plans.

It was Shen Xiu’s advice that made him decide to pursue this path in the first place — which made Shen Xiu’s influence on him feel even more significant.

So, on the day he was set to leave for school overseas, even though he was a little afraid of Shen Xiu’s savage tongue, he still mustered up the courage to invite him to see him off.

“Would you be able to drive me tomorrow night at 8?”

Shen Xiu picked up the call, completely baffled, and repeated the question out loud:

“…Wait, you want me to drive you at 8 tomorrow?”

“…Yeah. Is that okay?”

Xuan Ji gripped his phone, super anxious.

Shen Xiu: “…”

He had gotten his driver’s license, yes — but other than a few drives during the third part of his training course, he hadn’t touched a car since.

Not because he didn’t want to — he actually wished he had more chances to practice. He knew he might need to drive for work someday, and being rusty could be a problem.

But… the thing was…

He didn’t own a car.

And even if he borrowed one — did he really feel safe driving for the first time in forever?

And more importantly…

Would Xuan Ji seriously be brave enough to ride with him?

A few awkward seconds passed. Shen Xiu stayed silent, and Xuan Ji, waiting anxiously on the other end, started to panic even more.

“Sorry! I just realized you’ve got school the day after tomorrow, and you’re probably busy tomorrow night too. I didn’t think it through. Sorry to bother you.”

Hearing Xuan Ji completely misunderstand him, Shen Xiu quickly jumped in to explain.

“It’s no trouble… I just don’t have a car.”

System: [You do have a car! There are a bunch in the underground garage. I bought them with your money!]

Shen Xiu: “???”

When did the system start buying cars with his money? And how did he not know about it?

Back when Shen Xiu was drowning in debt, he used to dread every single expense — every time the bank sent him a transaction alert, watching his balance drop would spike his anxiety through the roof.

So eventually, he just went to the bank and turned off all the SMS notifications.

After he paid off everything, he finally relaxed. Since he wasn’t stressing over money anymore, he never bothered turning those notifications back on.

If the system hadn’t just told him it had been using his money to go on a car-buying spree, he’d have had no idea.

System: [Don’t be mad! I don’t have any weird hobbies or anything — I just really like buying cars!]

Shen Xiu: [Did you spend all my money?]

He needed to make sure there was still enough left for rent. And Lucky’s allowance!

System: [Nope!]

Whew. Okay, that was a relief. As long as it didn’t blow through everything, it was fine.

“Wait… you don’t have a car?”

Xuan Ji looked like Shen Xiu had just told him the sky was green.

Shen Xiu awkwardly corrected himself:

“Sorry — I misspoke. I do have a car. I can drive you.”

Then he added honestly:

“But… it’ll be my first time driving. You sure you wanna risk it?”

As excited as Shen Xiu was to finally have a chance to practice, he wasn’t about to hide the danger.

“First time driving?” Xuan Ji laughed. “Come on, don’t joke like that.”

He clearly didn’t believe him for a second.

“Of course I’m fine with it. I’m super brave!”

If he wasn’t, would he have dared to approach Shen Xiu in the first place, knowing full well the guy was cold and sarcastic?

Someone actually willing to trust his driving? Shen Xiu was genuinely touched.

“Send me the address. I’ll come pick you up tomorrow.”

“No need!” Xuan Ji replied. “I’m leaving at 7 p.m. to get to Yulin Banxia — I’ll arrive at your place around 7:50. If we head to the airport at 8, we’ll get there right on time.”

The next evening, 7:40 p.m.

Shen Xiu put on a face mask, stepped into the elevator, and followed the system’s instructions, pressing the button for B2 (Basement Level 2).

“Are you sure it’s B2? Not B1?”

Inside the elevator, Shen Xiu awkwardly looked at his reflection in the mirrored wall and questioned the system.

Ever since he’d moved into this building, he’d never actually visited the parking garage, so he had no idea there was even a B2 level. Every time he walked into the complex through the pedestrian entrance, the only signs he ever saw pointed to B1 for vehicle access.

System: [Of course I’m sure! I’m a system — I don’t make mistakes.]

Shen Xiu thought about it… fair enough. He didn’t argue.

Besides, if there’s a dedicated elevator button for B2, then the system was probably right.

As the elevator reached the 7th floor, it stopped and the doors opened.

A man in a suit stood outside. The moment the doors opened and he saw the tall figure inside — sharp eyes, mask on — he froze for a second. After a brief hesitation, he stepped in.

Once he was inside, he noticed the B2 button was already lit. When he reached to press a button, his hand visibly paused midair.

Wait… could this be him?

The guy who supposedly owns all of Basement Level 2 in Yulin Banxia?!

After a few stiff seconds, the man pressed the B1 button instead.

The elevator continued its descent.

The suited man quickly pulled his hand back and took a couple of steps back — now standing side by side with Shen Xiu, shoulder to shoulder.

Shen Xiu: “?”

He instinctively tensed up, his back pressed against the elevator wall. There was nowhere else to retreat. He didn’t even dare glance at the mirrored wall in front of him — what if he accidentally made eye contact with the stranger through the reflection?

The man who had stepped back nervously swallowed. As the elevator neared the basement levels, he suddenly seemed to gather his courage.

“Hello, sir,” he said, turning slightly toward Shen Xiu.

Shen Xiu: “…Hello.”

Of course.

Even riding an elevator, he somehow manages to run into a social butterfly. His luck was as spectacularly bad as ever.

“I’m—”

The man had just started to speak when Shen Xiu glanced at the floor indicator: “We’re here.”

As soon as he said that, the elevator doors slid open.

The man looked at the open doors and instantly regretted hesitating earlier. “Thanks. I’ll head out first. Goodbye.”

Shen Xiu: “Goodbye.”

The guy stepped out, and Shen Xiu quickly followed, hitting the close door button.

Watching the doors close and the elevator descend again, Shen Xiu noticed his hands — hanging at his sides — were trembling slightly from nerves.

It’s not that being stuck in a small space with a stranger was scary. What’s scary was when the stranger started talking to him. Shen Xiu had been so tense he nearly forgot how to breathe.

Ding!

They’d reached Basement Level 2. As soon as the doors opened, Shen Xiu stepped out like he’d just been released from underwater, taking a deep breath and pausing for a moment to calm down.

After he recovered a little, he looked around at the lineup of flashy, strangely-shaped cars in the underground garage and asked the system,

“Which one of these is the car you bought?”

System: […]

Which one?

Come on, think bigger! Open your mind just a bit!

But the system didn’t dare actually say that, so instead it said:

System: “Let’s make it a game. Why don’t you guess?”

Before Shen Xiu could answer, the system added:

“I’ve always been a lowkey type — whichever car looks the most low-profile, that’s the one I bought.”

Low-profile, huh?

Shen Xiu scanned the garage — it only took a second before his gaze locked onto the sleek black car parked dead center.

“This one?” he asked.

System: […]

Of course. Leave it to Shen Xiu.

No matter how much stuff you put in front of him, he always manages to zero in on the most expensive one. Like a hawk.
