They had a working military system, don’t tell me it’s only for guarding and then pulled out as vanguard when there’s war. Exploring, intelligence gathering, etc should be under the military’s responsibility. I understand that the narrative shows more of the common and individual characters, but it shouldn’t forgot the working system. At least mention that they’re first priority even in background or in passing because if it’s always the whole population doing lottery, it will appear that private guilds will eventually have a higher authority than the military. Their position is already in contrast with each other and while it’s necessary to militarized the whole civilization, the actual military should still be a prominent faction as they are protectors of order and law.

I know it’s just me nitpicking. And yes, their beliefs is a convenient plot device to swept plenty of finer details under the rug, but blue sea also have long history of warring, I wouldn’t be surprised if they challenge their military eventually just to fight it out.
