Chapter 78.2: Perfect for Logistics

A gigantic dome completely enclosed the area where she lived, allowing everyone inside to live normal lives without worrying about the freezing cold or where their next meal would come from. People from Dazzling Star like her could finally live together with their families without a single lingering concern.

Kailina lived in one of the newly constructed communal residences.

To be honest, more than ninety percent of the residents there were people from Dazzling Star. The remainder were almost entirely immigrants from other civilizations.

The people of Blue Sea would rather sleep in the ordinary residential quarters—which were somewhat less warm—than live in communal housing.

The people of Dazzling Star, however, were the exact opposite.

They loved communal living.

They preferred having an entire extended family living together in the same area, because that way, every day, every person from Dazzling Star could be certain that their loved ones were still alive.

Among all the civilizations that had joined Blue Sea, the people of Dazzling Star had integrated the fastest.

They placed great importance on family.

And after they began worshipping the Great Creator God alongside the people of Blue Sea, they felt as though they had joined one enormous family, with every other believer becoming one of their relatives.

It was the kind of relationship found in a large clan. Two people might not know each other personally, but if one of them needed help, the other would step in without hesitation, offering assistance with instinctive goodwill.

After all, who wouldn’t enjoy being treated with kindness?

As a result, most people from Dazzling Star were remarkably well-liked throughout Blue Sea.

Moreover, they had taken on a great deal of Blue Sea’s logistical work. Unlike many of Blue Sea’s other logistics personnel, who were always eager to head out into the field, give the people of Dazzling Star an indoor job, and they could diligently keep at it forever.

Kailina deliberately softened her footsteps. She first checked on her own children, then on her dozen or so grandchildren, making sure every one of them was sleeping soundly. Their fair cheeks were lightly flushed with a healthy pink, and only then did she return to her own bed, completely satisfied.

Her husband, Neil, also worked the day shift and was sleeping peacefully.

After spending decades together, Kailina knew better than anyone that Neil had always been a light sleeper. Ever since he was young, he had been prone to waking at the slightest disturbance.

It was probably because a snow beast had attacked his family’s wooden cabin one night when he was a child.

But now, even when Kailina pulled back the blanket, Neil didn’t wake.

His breathing was slow and steady. The perpetual furrow between his brows had relaxed, making him look several years younger.

The corners of Kailina’s lips curved upward involuntarily.

She had already taken a shower. As the unlimited supply of piping hot water washed over her body, the overwhelming sense of happiness had almost been intoxicating.

Now she lay down on her pillow.

The communal residence was a little on the warm side, but the Air Tower continued to function, allowing her and her people to sleep peacefully in the comfortable environment without worrying that the excessive warmth would lead to carbon dioxide poisoning.

Only after closing her eyes did Kailina realize something.

She hadn’t heard a single snow beast howl.

Even the wind sounded much gentler. It no longer carried that terrifying roar that made it seem as though the buildings could be ripped apart at any moment.

Instead…

It was oddly comforting.

Time to sleep.

Kailina told herself silently.

If she got enough rest, she’d have plenty of energy to throw herself into work again that afternoon.

Before going to bed, Kailina used to lie awake, anxiously calculating how many item cards her family had left and how much longer their energy reserves would last.

But now, the only thought filling her heart was that, even in the middle of the apocalypse, she had a stable job and so many loved ones by her side.

She was truly happy.

Kailina fell asleep, her expression relaxed and the corners of her lips still carrying a faint smile.

Just like the countless other people of Dazzling Star.

The Director of Blue Sea’s Internal Affairs Administration, however, was still wide awake.

Busy!

Back on Velvet Star, the logistics departments had operated normally. After all, everyone had just arrived in the apocalyptic world for the first time. In the early stages, the military had handled most of the fighting, and with civilization’s survival hanging in the balance, ordinary citizens had been more than willing to devote themselves to logistics work.

Logistics was logistics—it was all for the sake of Blue Sea.

But by the time they reached Dazzling Star, Blue Sea had already weathered the worst of the crisis. Combined with the survival model here, which resembled hunting on Dark Star, what Blue Sea resident could possibly resist going out to test themselves?

Not to mention that fighting Skywing Dragons earned them a pair of Flight Wings.

As a result, requests for leave and resignations across every logistics department skyrocketed.

The Director almost wanted to wipe away a tear.

Logistics was important too!

If everyone happily rushed off to fight Skywing Dragons…

Who was supposed to cook?

It wasn’t as though the residents could truly fight nonstop for an entire day and night without eating or drinking. (Well, technically they could, but it would take an enormous toll on their bodies.) Without the logistics teams continuously delivering hydration supplies, food, and even building heated field toilets on the battlefield, could they really have maintained such high spirits the entire time?

Even for the people of Blue Sea!

Surely they couldn’t keep fighting with perfectly straight faces when they desperately needed to use the bathroom!

While the residents had been busy fighting, the Internal Affairs Administration had already prepared everything in advance.

As soon as the battle ended, the Administration efficiently announced that hot water would be free for the day, opened every bathhouse ahead of schedule, and, with the assistance of the Central Intelligence System, organized orderly queues for everyone to bathe.

By the time the residents had finished washing up, steaming hot meals were already waiting for them in the cafeterias.

Once they had washed away the blood and grime and eaten their fill, the people of Blue Sea could head back to their residences and enjoy a well-deserved night’s sleep.

Without the logistics staff, could any of that have happened?

Every time the Director looked at another resignation list, he wanted to curse.

If logistics personnel kept quitting at this rate, then after every battle, everyone could just drink cold water and eat cold food.

The worst part was that he’d actually said exactly that during a staff meeting once.

The logistics workers’ expressions had clearly replied:

“That wouldn’t be so bad.”

After all, the people of Blue Sea were tough. They could survive just fine drinking cold water, eating cold meals, and skipping a bath.

Compared to enduring a little discomfort…

They’d much rather go fight Skywing Dragons.

The Director: “…”

He racked his brain trying to figure out how to retain more logistics workers. He thought so hard he was practically going bald, yet he still couldn’t come up with any way to persuade battle-loving Blue Sea residents to choose working safely in the rear over charging into combat.

It went completely against their nature!

Even he, the Director of the Internal Affairs Administration, had sneaked away from work and taken a three-hour leave during the Skywing Dragon battle so he could rush onto the battlefield and fight to his heart’s content.

Just as the last strand of hair on his head seemed destined to disappear…

Salvation descended from the heavens.

The people of Dazzling Star.

They had walked right into the Director’s world.

At that moment, as he looked over the list of newly recruited logistics personnel in his hands, he was grinning from ear to ear.

Of the newly arrived residents from Dazzling Star, eighty percent had chosen logistics positions.

They weren’t afraid of hardship.

They weren’t afraid of exhaustion.

They didn’t mind giving up the opportunity to fight.

The repetitive, tedious work that Blue Sea residents found mind-numbing became astonishingly efficient in their hands, with productivity nearly doubling.

On top of that, they generally had gentle personalities.

Compared to Blue Sea’s bold and uninhibited residents, the people of Dazzling Star were exceptionally patient when handling routine work. They treated Blue Sea residents with warmth and kindness, and as a result, many Blue Sea employees who worked alongside them found themselves cooperating far more willingly than usual.

“They’re practically born for logistics!”

They were even willing to become teachers!

The Director was so moved he nearly burst into tears.

Granted, because the people of Dazzling Star weren’t particularly strong in combat, they could only qualify as preschool teachers caring for children under the age of three.

Even so, it helped ease Blue Sea’s logistics burden, if only a little.

The most exciting news of all was that the Director had already received word that at least one million more people from Dazzling Star would soon be joining Blue Sea.

To him, that meant one million more logistics workers were on the way.

Wonderful!!!

He wished he could bring them over immediately.

There were simply too many resignation letters piling up from Blue Sea’s logistics staff.

He was reaching the point where he couldn’t hold things together any longer.

“So…”

The Director called the Chief Administrator.

“When are those people from Dazzling Star returning to the Temple?”

The Chief Administrator: “…”

“Do you realize I only got off work an hour ago? It’s my break! I just fell asleep!”

“Sorry, Chief Administrator, but those people from Dazzling Star…”

The Chief Administrator gritted her teeth.

Considering that the Director of the Internal Affairs Administration had managed to replace his hairstyle with a completely bald head in such a short time, she forcibly kept her temper in check.

“Soon. When the Temple is about to leave this world, our God will summon these new believers back.”

“Huh?”

The Director sounded reluctant.

“We’re leaving already?”

Wasn’t that far too soon?

He hadn’t had nearly enough fun fighting yet.

The Chief Administrator completely understood his reluctance.

Truthfully, she didn’t want to leave either.

This place was fantastic.

There were endless battles to fight, plenty of spoils to collect afterward, and although it was a little cold, they could simply train more and build up their tolerance. It wasn’t a major issue.

Emotionally, that was how she felt.

But reason still prevailed.

“The temperature is still dropping. At its current rate, even the Warm Houses won’t be able to keep up forever. In less than half a year at the earliest, we’ll have no choice but to leave.”

Thinking that the Director was still awake at this hour because he was working overtime, and had now been dealt another piece of bad news, the Chief Administrator decided to dangle a tempting promise in front of him.

“Don’t worry. Once the new believers arrive, I’ll let you have first pick of their job assignments.”

The Director immediately lit up with delight.

“Thank you, Chief Administrator! Thank you, thank you!”

After hanging up, the Chief Administrator thought for a moment before calling the Director of the Finance and Materials Administration.

Since she wasn’t going to get back to sleep anyway, she might as well arrange the work first.

“Yes, it’s time to start preparing for our departure. You can begin making the necessary arrangements now.”

“That’s right. There will be at least one million new believers, possibly even more. We need to coordinate the supplies for them in advance.”

“Don’t worry. Naturally, when the new believers arrive, you’ll get first pick of the positions under your department.”

Little Blue Sea Nation

The citizens had no idea that before they had even reached the Divine Kingdom, countless positions were already waiting for them.

At dawn, another group of divine envoys descended as usual.

Looking down from above, Lu Song broke into a delighted smile.

“They’ve finally arrived.”

Seeing that there weren’t many clergy members flying overhead, he figured he could still beat them to the preaching.

Grinning from ear to ear, Lu Song landed and hurried off to report to the clergy.

Only to discover that every single person from Dazzling Star in Little Blue Sea Nation spoke in a language he could understand.

Lu Song: “…”

No way.

He’d only spent a little over ten days traveling!

Just over ten days!

The entire country had become believers already?!

Were Blue Sea’s missionaries really that good at spreading the faith?

Then why hadn’t it worked when he tried?

Still unwilling to give up, Lu Song sought out one of the clergy members and asked them to perform the complete missionary routine on him so he could study it.

The clergyman replied awkwardly,

“…Actually, we haven’t even had time to preach yet. We’d only just arrived when they all became believers of our God.”

Lu Song: “…”

Qi Yi and Qi Er patted him on the shoulder.

“Maybe… you should try a different approach?”

Lu Song took a deep breath and gazed into the vast expanse of white stretching across the horizon.

“You’re right!”

“I won’t give up!”

“If it’s just founding a nation…”

“I can do that too!”
