Chapter 220.1: Rain Officials

Naturally, Fallen Heaven Star had more than just one sea with an established name.

The number of oceans reported by Blue Sea’s residents alone added up to more than a hundred.

And there were dragons in every single one of them. Deciding which sea to choose became the first task Blue Sea had to tackle.

There was no question about it.

Whenever it came time to make this kind of choice, it was only natural to have Tian Buke, the ability user with the ability [Luck], step forward.

They still used the old method. All the names of the oceans on Fallen Heaven Star known to Blue Sea were written on slips of paper. Tian Buke drew lots, while Cheng Qisheng used the faith chain to determine whether [Luck] was taking effect.

Tian Buke slowly unfolded the slip of paper in his hand.

Three characters were written on it:

— Myriad Stars Sea.

Naturally, [Luck] was not omnipotent.

When faced with a choice, [Luck] could only select the best and most suitable outcome for Blue Sea from among all the available options.

In the extraordinary world of Fallen Heaven Star, combat strength could not be assessed based on hearsay alone.

Even with [Luck] intervening, there was still a possibility that Blue Sea might lose this battle to welcome the dragon.

Therefore, Blue Sea had made the greatest preparations it possibly could at this moment.

But to the local people and local deities who witnessed countless divine streaks of light flashing across the distant sky that night, Blue Sea’s preparations were nothing short of the prelude to some kind of world war.

Tonight, every deity, including the residents dispatched by other Safe Cities, was wondering:

Who were they?

What were they planning to do?

And why were there so many of them?!

“Are there really this many deities in the world?”

As Lu Song gazed up at the streaks of light overhead, wondering whether the ones responsible for such a tremendous commotion had come from Blue Sea Safe City, a bewildered, childish voice suddenly sounded beside him.

He lowered his head and saw a little ginseng doll walking around on its root tendrils. It was curiously waving the tendrils in its hands.

A five-hundred-year-old ginseng doll was, in its own species, still nothing more than a little child.

It hadn’t even cultivated skin yet. Its outer surface still looked just like an ordinary ginseng root, though it had already developed a head and used its root tendrils as limbs. It was roughly the size of a one- or two-year-old human child, with a little tuft of hair tied on top of its head using one of its tendrils.

It wore a red bellyband. If an ordinary person happened to see it at night, they might genuinely mistake it for some family’s little toddler who had wandered outside.

Lu Song lowered his head and spoke to it gently.

“There are. So don’t keep running down the mountain all the time. Be careful you don’t get caught and beaten to death.”

The ginseng doll wasn’t afraid in the slightest. Imitating a human, it planted several of its tendrils on its “hips” and declared arrogantly:

“I’m not afraid! I’m not someone you can mess with, either. And even if I can’t beat them, Lord Mountain God will definitely help me!”

Its fearless, swaggering attitude reminded Lu Song of Qi Yi and Qi Er. More accurately, it reminded him of the way most Blue Sea residents behaved toward outsiders.

Especially when facing difficulties and danger, Blue Sea residents were always more than willing to show Lu Song exactly what it meant to face adversity head-on.

They had an extraordinary degree of confidence in their companions. Even if they didn’t know one another, every Blue Sea resident firmly believed that when they found themselves in danger, the other Blue Sea residents would come to their rescue.

Come to think of it, this ginseng doll seemed quite suited to Blue Sea.

Its combat strength was a little lacking, but that didn’t matter. After all, it was still young. Once it arrived in Blue Sea, it would attend elementary school, and there would be plenty of time to train and improve gradually.

Lu Song went through all sorts of random thoughts before suddenly realizing:

Why was he thinking about recruiting people into Blue Sea again?

It was probably because he’d previously made a habit of recruiting people into Blue Sea to accumulate merits and become a believer of their God as quickly as possible.

Lu Song reached out and patted the ginseng doll’s slightly rough head before raising his gaze toward the sky again.

To be honest, the sight was beautiful. When deities flew, their divine power was drawn out behind them, forming long, gorgeous arcs of light. And when so many deities flew together, the countless arcs looked almost like a meteor shower descending from the heavens.

Lu Song was becoming increasingly certain that the deities flying overhead were all Blue Sea residents.

After all, the other Safe Cities might not have this many people. More importantly, in a world with a conversion field, all positioning devices and communication terminals had been rendered useless. The only ones who could still communicate with one another were the believers of the great Creator God.

He really wanted to go up and strike up a conversation with them, but he couldn’t go anywhere.

Lu Song sighed dejectedly.

The ginseng doll looked at him curiously. “Lord Mountain God, what’s wrong?”

Lu Song replied, “I was wondering why I can’t move around freely like those other deities.”

The ginseng doll said, “But Lord Mountain God, you’re so big! When I travel through the mountains, I have to hop along for several days before I can get out.”

That was right. On Fallen Heaven Star, Lu Song had become a mountain god.

Not a mountain lord in name only, like a tiger demon being called a Mountain Lord, but an actual mountain in the truest sense of the word.

The divine idols that residents descended into were usually connected to the residents themselves in one way or another.

But no matter how hard Lu Song racked his brains, he couldn’t figure out what connection he, Lu Song, had with a mountain.

Surely it couldn’t be that just because his name contained the character Song (松, pine), and this mountain happened to have a pine forest, he had somehow formed a spiritual bond with this enormous mountain?

Besides, when he’d left Blue Sea, he’d clearly read the Complete Guide to Fallen Heaven Star. It had stated in no uncertain terms that residents would descend into divine idols that possessed spiritual energy but had not yet developed consciousness.

So where was his divine idol?!

Where were his believers?!

When Lu Song opened his eyes, there wasn’t even a temple in the mountains. He was the mountain, and the mountain was him.

It really was an enormous mountain. But there wasn’t a single human living on it.

At least the other territorial deities could fly around in the skies above their own jurisdictions. Lu Song, however, had been trapped inside this mountain ever since the moment he opened his eyes.

At first, there hadn’t been a single living human in the mountain, let alone a little demon spirit. It wasn’t until one day, when a mischievous ginseng doll that loved wandering everywhere came over to play, that Lu Song finally had someone to talk to.

Since there were no living humans here, naturally, there were no believers either. Lu Song’s divine power could barely sustain a phantom human form. If he hadn’t imitated the little demon spirits and started absorbing the essence of the sun and moon every day, he probably wouldn’t even have been able to maintain his human appearance.

The ginseng doll had mentioned that there were villages surrounding the mountain. But this was a world of gods, demons, and monsters. The more uninhabited a place was, the more likely it was to be teeming with supernatural creatures. Ordinary mortals probably wouldn’t dare venture into the mountains without good reason.

Still, surely it wasn’t possible that not a single person ever came here? Couldn’t even one hunter come along to hunt some pheasants or catch a few rabbits?

“Ah…”

Lu Song couldn’t help sighing again.

He was starting to suspect that he had some kind of constitution that repelled all living beings.

Back in Blue Sea, he had been incompatible with faith. Now that he’d arrived on Fallen Heaven Star, he was incompatible with believers.

At this point, he could only gaze longingly at the sky, hoping that one of the countless streaks of light overhead would fly down. That way, Blue Sea would know he was here.

But after thinking it over, Lu Song decided that was unlikely.

If those streaks of light flying overhead really belonged to Blue Sea residents, then with so many of them gathered together in such an impressive formation, the only possible explanation was that they were heading into battle.

And Blue Sea residents rushing off to fight would undoubtedly be completely focused. They wouldn’t just casually break formation and wander off.

At a time like this, unless a several-hundred-meter-tall monster suddenly appeared in the mountain where he was, there was absolutely no way to attract the attention of the Blue Sea residents.

Wait. With so many Blue Sea residents gathered together, perhaps they really were rushing off to fight a several-hundred-meter-tall monster.

After all, this was a world filled with demons, monsters, and all manner of supernatural beings. Blue Sea’s opponents could only be stronger than the ones they’d encountered before.

Qi Yi and Qi Er would definitely be going too, wouldn’t they?

Of course they would. Those two had never been willing to miss a major battle.

Just thinking about it made Lu Song’s hands itch for a fight. He had spent so much time practicing with Qi Yi and Qi Er before the three of them finally developed a combo technique of their own.

Now that he wasn’t there, the two of them would probably have to fall back on the combination techniques they’d used back when they were still brothers.

Originally, Lu Song’s plan had been:

Arrive on Fallen Heaven Star → Increase his strength → Develop believers → Obtain a divine kingdom → Bring it back to Blue Sea.

Later, after becoming a mountain, he’d revised his plan to: Preserve his divine power → Train diligently → Wait for some Blue Sea resident, who would inevitably wander around wherever they went, to discover him.

But now, watching with his own eyes as what appeared to be Blue Sea residents gathered for some major operation, while he alone remained rooted to this mountain, Lu Song’s phantom human form furrowed its brows deeply.

No. He couldn’t just sit around waiting for things to happen.

Life in Blue Sea had been so comfortable that all he needed to do was follow the government’s orders and carry out his assigned tasks. He’d almost forgotten that he’d once survived independently on his home planet for more than half a year.

Lu Song turned to look at the ginseng doll.

“San’er, the next time you sneak down the mountain, could you bring me back some rice seeds?”

The ginseng doll, now named San’er, thumped its chest confidently. It didn’t even ask what the Mountain God wanted the rice seeds for. It was simply thrilled to have received an assignment from him.

It immediately agreed.

“No problem, Lord Mountain God! Leave it to me!”

Lu Song thought that although there were no living humans here and his divine power was rather limited, at least he was the one calling the shots on this mountain.

Once he got his hands on some rice seeds, he would start farming here.

This mountain was actually quite enormous. Lu Song estimated its area to be around ten thousand square kilometers.

That just went to show how vast Fallen Heaven Star was. He’d heard that Blue Sea’s initial area had only been eight hundred square kilometers.

He would cultivate the vast stretches of land on this mountain, grow an enormous amount of grain, and then have San’er take it outside to use as bait to attract people.

The living standards of ordinary mortals on Fallen Heaven Star were roughly comparable to those of ancient people during the Rong Star era. Lu Song refused to believe that anyone from an ancient society could resist the temptation of having access to a massive supply of food.

At this moment, Lu Song was extremely grateful that all Blue Sea residents knew how to farm. He’d also learned quite a bit by working alongside Qi Yi and Qi Er.

Now, all he had to do was turn his situation into something along the lines of ‘Farming Like Crazy in the World of Gods’.

First, lure people in with food. Then turn them into believers. Next, establish his own divine kingdom, and finally bring it back to Blue Sea as an offering to their God.

Lu Song’s gaze grew resolute once more.

He wasn’t going to accept failure just like that.

He, Lu Song, was absolutely going to become a believer of their God.

Furthermore, he would work hard to obtain a divine kingdom and offer at least one square kilometer—one hundred hectares—of land to their God.

——

Outside this enormous mountain, which was so massive it nearly obscured the distant horizon, there was a medium-sized village called Songbird Village.

At this very moment, the Earth God worshipped by Songbird Village had also been drawn out of the ground by the tremendous commotion of countless deities flying overhead. Emerging from beneath the earth, the Earth God gazed up at the sky with a mixture of shock and apprehension.

“What is happening now? What on earth is happening this time?”

The Earth God clutched its walking stick and couldn’t help letting out one long sigh after another.

It then checked on the village, making sure that everyone was sleeping soundly. Since they were ordinary mortals, none of them had noticed the streaks of divine light in the sky. Only then did the Earth God finally breathe a little easier.

Not long ago, an enormous mountain had suddenly appeared out of nowhere near the village, frightening the residents of Songbird Village terribly. If they were to witness countless deities flying across the sky on top of that, the entire village would probably be too frightened to sleep properly.

—Speaking of that mountain, the Earth God couldn’t help sighing again.

When it first appeared, the mountain had already been terrifyingly enormous.

It hadn’t encroached upon or compressed the existing space around Songbird Village, but even so, several nearby households had been so frightened that they moved to the opposite end of the village overnight.

The matter had also been reported to the imperial court. However, the kingdom that ruled this region was currently in a period of political turmoil, and all sorts of supernatural incidents involving ghosts and monsters had been occurring throughout its territory.

A massive mountain suddenly appearing beside a small village was certainly strange, but at least no one had been harmed, and the villagers hadn’t gone mad. As a result, the imperial court simply couldn’t spare the resources to deal with it.

The county Town God, however, had brought some people to take a look from a distance. Afterward, he had quickly led them away.

He had told the Earth God:

“From what I can see, that mountain is the divine domain of a deity. Anyone possessing a divine domain of such an immense size must be a formidable figure, certainly far more powerful than me.”

“Although I don’t know why this venerable deity has moved its divine domain here, since it hasn’t come out of its own accord, it probably doesn’t want to be disturbed. Keep a close eye on the people under your jurisdiction. Don’t let them wander inside and disturb the venerable deity, or you might bring disaster upon yourselves.”

The Earth God was nothing more than a tiny, tiny deity worshipped by a rural village. It didn’t even really understand what a divine domain was.

Hearing the Town God explain that an incredibly powerful deity had descended here, it immediately became extremely anxious. It repeatedly promised that it would keep the villagers under control.

Fortunately, the people of Songbird Village were also terrified of the enormous mountain that had suddenly appeared. Afraid that it might be hiding some kind of demon or monster, they usually went out of their way to avoid it. This saved the Earth God the trouble of using illusions to keep them from entering the mountain.

But how long had it even been since this divine domain descended? And now another extraordinary spectacle had appeared, with so many deities traveling together through the night.

The Earth God of Songbird Village felt as though the shock alone was going to shorten its divine lifespan.

There was the enormous mountain divine domain ahead, and countless deities flying overhead—

All the Earth God could do was crouch inside its own Earth God temple, praying over and over that the world would remain peaceful.

Hopefully, the deities were merely passing through, and that mountain divine domain would move somewhere else as soon as possible.

Songbird Village was far too small. It simply couldn’t withstand any major upheaval.

  1. Holy shit, Lu Song is that powerful already?! Maybe his ability has manifested already when Blue Sea was at its early stages making his mental defense impenetrable thus making it hard for him to mentally connect or “believe” in Cheng Qisheng. Also thank you for the update ❤

  2. People: OMG! Don’t go in the mountain or the mountain god will curse you!
Said Mountain god Lu, wondering why no one visits him and why he can’t believe in his chosen god: I’m so lonely here.

Poor Old Lu, does he have some sort of nullification power?
