Chapter 1: Supporting a Useless Brother? Not Happening!

On a summer night, the sound of cicadas chirping rose and fell, interspersed with indistinct curses.

The Xie family, who dragged down the entire county’s economy, firmly believed in the principle that extreme stinginess would eventually lead to wealth. As such, they didn’t even bother turning on the living room lights.

But the darkness didn’t affect Xie Yaozu’s “performance.” He slapped his seventeen-year-old daughter, Xie Zhaodi, hard enough to knock her to the floor.

“Quit f**king yelling about going to high school! What use is an ungrateful money-loser like you getting an education?!”

He didn’t notice that Xie Zhaodi’s breathing had stopped. A minute later, it suddenly returned to a steady, calm rhythm, and her opened eyes gradually cleared.

“Still pretending to be unconscious? If you don’t get up, I’ll beat you to death right now!”

Xie Yaozu’s expression was ferocious as he raised his foot to kick her again—only to be stopped when a slender hand caught his ankle. With a twist of strength, she flipped him to the ground.

“You’ve got some nerve!” Xie Yaozu hit the back of his head and saw stars. He struggled for several moments but couldn’t get back up.

Furious and disbelieving, he couldn’t wrap his head around the fact that the daughter who had always accepted his beatings and scoldings without resistance now dared to fight back. This defiant, unfilial creature—he wanted nothing more than to str*ngle her right then and there!

Having just received the original body’s memories, Lin Zhifeng felt somewhat unaccustomed to this mortal shell. She sluggishly turned her head, got up, and walked over to the still-struggling Xie Yaozu.

Sensing his murderous intent, Lin Zhifeng narrowed her eyes, bent down, and suddenly reached out to choke his neck. Meanwhile, the system was still explaining the situation in her mind.

“Supporting character Xie Zhaodi has been assessed by the system as a [Rebel]. Her soul is currently in a frozen state. Host is requested to warm others through self-sacrifice in the story and make up for the wrongs committed by the original.”

Sacrifice herself for others? Not a chance!

Lin Zhifeng tightened her grip. Xie Yaozu’s face turned purple, and he was completely restrained by an invisible force—unable to move, let alone resist.

“Host’s thoughts show signs of turning dark. Warning! Host must redeem characters through kindness, or face punishment!”

“You’re telling me how to do things?” Lin Zhifeng thought about sealing the system, and the world instantly fell silent.

In the past, she had stood at the pinnacle of the divine realm—waving a hand could annihilate an entire world of immortals. Even though she wasn’t as powerful as before, suppressing a mere system was still child’s play.

“In the words of this world, I am your golden finger. You’re getting all the benefits and don’t even realize it!”

The system was completely overpowered by a formidable force. It couldn’t resist at all and began to panic. Feeling that the host was about to truly kill a character, it immediately unleashed its maximum power to plead and send reminders.

“What now?” Lin Zhifeng frowned and knocked Xie Yaozu out cold with a karate chop, planning to let the system finish its nonsense first.

“As long as the host does not violate the rules of this world, the system can offer rewards. Otherwise, your soul will be trapped in the broken novel world.”

Lin Zhifeng scoffed with disdain. ‘A mere novel world trying to trap me?’ She’d seen all kinds of treasures and realms—now this system was trying to bribe her?

“The system store includes talismans, pills, and currency unique to each novel world!”

“Don’t need it.”

Lin Zhifeng once again stretched out her sinful demonic hand, planning to finish off the man who had abused his daughter for years.

“Wait! There’s also your divine core!”

Lin Zhifeng’s hand paused mid-air, her expression turning serious.

Not long ago, a war between gods and demons ended with the God Realm’s victory. Though she was the one with the most military merit, she had the worst luck—during the final counterattack of the last Demon Lord, her nine divine cores were shattered and sealed within various novel worlds.

She had used up her divine soul power to enter one of the novels. Though she hadn’t found her divine core, her presence disrupted the plot. If it wasn’t repaired, all the characters would be erased.

So, she had no choice but to attach herself to a minor cannon fodder character, rebel against a tyrant, and set the plot back on track. After successfully completing that rebellion, she was ready to withdraw her divine soul and leave.

The system had mistakenly thought she was dead and classified her as a [Rebel], forcing her to complete missions within the novel world. Only by unlocking the [Ultimate Saintess Radiance] could she be brought back to life.

If it weren’t for the fact that the system could travel between novel worlds—saving her from having to burn up her divine soul each time—Lin Zhifeng would’ve destroyed it long ago.

“The system has detected the host’s obsession. As long as the host refrains from casually erasing characters, the system will directly extract the world containing your divine core from now on.”

In other words, she wouldn’t have to waste time doing things pointlessly anymore. Lin Zhifeng was very satisfied. “Good. Erase his memory, then I’ll deal with him a different way.”

The system silently drew out a memory-erasing talisman and placed it in her hand. “Host, kindness is the true path.”

Lin Zhifeng let those words go in one ear and out the other. The original host had been kind enough—sacrificed more than enough—and what came of it?

Her biological father beat her, her mother favored the others, and her grandmother was a spiteful hag. The only one who ever comforted her, her second younger sister Xie Laidi, was a mute little girl who could do nothing but cry with her in silence. The entire Xie family revolved around the “precious only son,” Xie Guibao.

Today, the original host had just received her part-time salary when she got home and was immediately hounded by Xie Guibao to buy him a tablet. When she refused and said she was saving for high school tuition, Xie Yaozu came home, heard the story, and flew into a rage, beating and cursing her while telling her not to even dream of going to school.

These basic acts of resistance had led the system to label her as a [Rebel], requiring a task-bearer to sacrifice themselves and “correct” the plot in order to bring her back to life.

But Lin Zhifeng wasn’t about to play the role of a punching bag. With a smack, she slapped the talisman onto Xie Yaozu’s forehead, then returned to her fallen position and pretended to be unconscious, forcibly digging out a small portion of the upcoming plot that even the system couldn’t access.

“Hiss—” Xie Yaozu clutched his head and staggered to his feet, his mind reeling. It felt like he’d lost part of his memory.

When he saw his eldest daughter unconscious on the floor, Xie Yaozu finally remembered he had just been “teaching her a lesson.” Maybe he’d accidentally fallen because of it.

“Jinx, always bringing bad luck,” he muttered, thoroughly annoyed.

Just then, his phone rang. After taking the call, he hurried out—off to drink with some buddies.

With a soft creak, a fifteen-year-old girl stepped out from the small bedroom and quietly came to Lin Zhifeng’s side, gently touching her face.

“I’m fine,” Lin Zhifeng said, seeing Xie Laidi’s tear-filled eyes. Even though she couldn’t speak, the concern in her gaze was real and unmistakable. “Go back to bed.”

The two of them returned in the dark to their cramped shared bedroom. After Xie Laidi fell asleep, Lin Zhifeng got up quietly and slipped out the door.

She couldn’t access much of the future plot, but she’d seen just enough to know that the KTV Xie Yaozu had gone to would soon be the scene of a brawl—and a small twist of fate for him.

The fight started when the female lead, Bai Ruyue, was harassed by a gang of thugs. The second male lead, Zhao Xiao, happened to witness it and stepped in, taking down nineteen of them.

By the end of the fight, Zhao Xiao was stabbed in a sneak attack. Just as Bai Ruyue was about to take him to the hospital, she got a call saying something had happened at home. Torn between the two, she saw her classmate Xie Zhaodi’s father—Xie Yaozu—nearby and hastily asked him to take Zhao Xiao to the hospital.

As a result, both the male and female lead owed Xie Yaozu a favor.

Naturally, Lin Zhifeng planned to cut that chance off at the root.

She picked up the pace and soon arrived across the street from Jinhuang KTV.

Ten gang members were surrounding five girls and harassing them—Bai Ruyue was among them. Zhao Xiao, passing by in a car, saw the scene and told his driver to stop.

Just as he was about to get out and intervene, a shadow shot across the street like a gust of wind and lightning.

Bam! Bam! Bam!

“Aaah, my face!”

“Who the hell kicked me in the nuts?!”

Cries of pain rose one after another. The thugs didn’t even have time to call for backup before Lin Zhifeng beat them senseless and sent them running.

“Go—now!” Lin Zhifeng grabbed Bai Ruyue and ran. It wasn’t that she was trying to play the hero—if she waited even a second longer, Xie Yaozu would be stepping outside to answer his call.
