Chapter 280 – Wei Chen Returns Home

Wei Wei’s voice was urgent, in a state of panic. His words were disjointed, and Wei Chen couldn’t make sense of it all.

“Wei Wei!” Wei Chen raised his voice, “Calm down first. What happened? Explain it clearly to me.”

With Wei Chen’s shout, Wei Wei stopped abruptly. After a while, he regained composure and slowly said, “During the New Year, Mom and Dad had a big fight. It seems Dad has another woman outside. He hit Mom, and she stayed at Grandma’s for a few days. She came back the day before yesterday and asked for a divorce. Dad and Grandpa disagreed. Today, I couldn’t find Mom. I called her, but no one answered. I even went to Grandma’s specially, but Mom wasn’t there.”

Wei Wei was just eleven after the New Year. The military-style life and studies of the past year had changed his temperament. But still, as a child, being this composed in such a situation was commendable.

“I understand,” Wei Chen said expressionlessly. “I’m currently abroad. I’ll ask Wei Yan to check the situation.”

“Brother, will you come back?” Wei Wei asked cautiously, with a hint of hope in his tone.

Wei Chen neither agreed nor refused, only saying, “We’ll see.”

“Brother, you must come back. Mom really wants to see you,” Wei Wei pleaded.

Even though he was young, Wei Wei had judgment. He had observed how his parents treated Wei Chen over the years. Before entering that school, he thought it was normal. But gradually, as he learned more and experienced more, he realized how unfairly Wei Chen had been treated by their parents.

If his brother didn’t come back this time, Wei Wei would understand. But deep down, he still hoped his brother would return. At this moment, he and his Mom could only rely on his brother.

Wei Chen remained unchanged in his response.

Feeling dejected, Wei Wei hung up the phone.

“Achen, what’s wrong?” Chen Li felt something amiss with Wei Chen’s emotions, holding his hand with concern.

Wei Chen didn’t hide anything, recounting what Wei Wei had said on the phone.

“Achen, do you want to go back?” Chen Li looked at Wei Chen and asked firmly.

Wei Chen didn’t answer because he himself didn’t know the answer.

Chen Li didn’t press further. Instead, he embraced Wei Chen tightly, just as Wei Chen comforted him, quietly accompanying Wei Chen.

“Li Li, I’m fine,” Wei Chen eventually spoke after a while.

“Okay,” Chen Li nodded, tiptoed, and lightly kissed Wei Chen.

Wei Chen ruffled Chen Li’s hair, then let him go to paint.

Chen Li was still worried. As he reached for the painting supplies, he glanced back at Wei Chen. Only after seeing a faint smile in Wei Chen’s eyes did Chen Li concentrate on painting.

Wei Chen then made a call to Wei Yan, asking him to understand the situation.

With the A Zone project entering its final stages, Wei Yan had been incredibly busy these days and was oblivious to what was happening in the Wei family. Upon receiving the news from Wei Chen, he immediately delegated his tasks to trusted subordinates and went to gather information about Fang Yun.

After ending the call with Wei Yan, Wei Chen sat in his office chair, resting his chin on his hand, lost in thought.

Today’s news came as a surprise. In his memory, Wei Zhenxiong and Fang Yun’s marriage had always been harmonious. He had never seen them angry or arguing.

Wei Zhenxiong having an affair outside was something Wei Chen was aware of; he had encountered him in the capital’s mall before. He always assumed Fang Yun knew as well but chose to ignore it.

However, it seemed that Fang Yun was unaware of Wei Zhenxiong’s affair. Something or someone had triggered her sudden outburst.

The current issue was why Wei Zhenxiong and Grandfather Wei opposed Fang Yun’s wish for divorce. Was Fang Yun truly missing, or had she gone somewhere to heal herself?

Half an hour later, Wei Chen’s phone rang again, this time from Wei Yan.

“Achen, I had people check all the stations and airports in the city, but there’s no record of Aunt’s travels. We also searched the places she usually frequents, but she’s nowhere to be found. The household staff mentioned that Aunt and Uncle had an argument last night, and today, she hasn’t been seen leaving. I’m worried that something might have happened to Aunt,” Wei Yan’s voice trembled with concern, his mind even conjuring up stories of Wei Zhenxiong accidentally harming Fang Yun and disposing of her body in the wilderness, the more he thought, the more anxious he became.

“I understand,” Wei Chen’s gaze turned solemn, a grave expression settling between his brows and eyes.

After ending the call with Wei Yan, Wei Chen felt a throbbing headache. As he reached for his temple, a pair of icy hands beat him to it.

“Li Li.” Wei Chen reached out, holding Chen Li’s slightly cold hand in his own, “I’m afraid I might…”

“Achen, you should go first. Me and the baby will wait for your return,” Chen Li leaned on Wei Chen’s back, not letting him finish his sentence.

“Okay.” Wei Chen turned his head, meeting Chen Li’s gaze filled with a smile, nodding, “I’ll try to resolve this as soon as possible and come back.”

With those words, Wei Chen gently sealed Chen Li’s slightly pouted lips, passionately giving him a fiery kiss.

Chen Li responded warmly.

Later on, things gradually spiraled out of control, heading toward an intense direction.

Considering the baby in Chen Li’s belly, both Wei Chen and Chen Li were gentle in their actions. Once it was over, Wei Chen held Chen Li tightly in his arms, a bit sticky but neither minded. At that moment, they quietly savored the intimacy of their bodies pressed against each other.

Wei Chen returned to China that night, catching the earliest flight. He didn’t allow Chen Li to see him off; he feared that if Chen Li did, he might not resist taking him along. But Wei Chen knew that at this time, it wouldn’t be safe for Chen Li to return to the country.

As Wei Chen left the country, Chen Li was painting. When the plane took off, he seemed to sense something, gazing blankly into the pitch-black night sky, lost in thought.

Chen Yunlan walked in with supper, placing it gently on the desk before walking over to Chen Li.

Chen Li snapped out of his thoughts upon hearing the movement. “Dad.”

“Missing Wei Chen already?” Chen Yunlan asked.

Chen Li nodded. “Yeah, missing him.” Even though Wei Chen had just left, he already longed to see him.

Indeed, he missed him. The canvas wasn’t filled with exhibition paintings; it was a portrait of Wei Chen.

“He’ll be back soon,” Chen Yunlan said, a form of consolation, not quite sure how else to comfort Chen Li.

“I know,” Chen Li turned, offering a smile to Chen Yunlan. “That’s why I’ll wait for him to come back.”

Chen Yunlan ruffled Chen Li’s hair. “Come and have supper.”

At the mention of supper, Chen Li’s eyes lit up instantly. He put down his paint brush and washed his hands. When it came to eating, Chen Li’s whole being came alive.

Chen Yunlan shook his head with a smile. Chen Li’s love for good food had indeed inherited from Qu Ran. His own culinary skills were honed by Qu Ran but ended up being used on his son.

When Wei Chen arrived in Shanghai, it was the peak of the day’s sunlight. Winter’s steps had already ventured far, disorderly ushering in spring. As a southern-leaning city, the city wasn’t as cold as LD, but the humidity in the air made Wei Chen tighten his coat collar.

Wei Chen had informed Wei Yan of his flight details, and he was already waiting in the airport’s hall. When he saw Wei Chen coming out, he hurriedly went to greet him.

“Achen,” Wei Yan’s expression was serious, “We found Aunt.”

“Where is she?” Wei Chen’s expression remained neutral, but his tone carried a sense of gravity and urgency.

“Uncle, in order to prevent Aunt from leaving, has confined her,” Wei Yan said, a hint of disdain evident on his face, disgusted by Wei Zhenxiong’s methods of dealing with women.

“What about Wei Wei?”

“Wei Wei doesn’t know about this yet. I didn’t tell him deliberately,” Wei Yan withheld another reason. After all, Wei Wei was still a child, and it was better to keep this matter away from him.

Wei Chen didn’t object. “Go back to the Wei residence. Take Wei Wei out for a while.” His thoughts aligned with Wei Yan’s. Wei Wei was a child, better kept unaware of this situation.

“Okay,” Wei Yan replied, starting the car once Wei had settled into the passenger seat, driving toward the Wei residence.

Wei Wei hadn’t eaten much since morning due to not seeing his mother. When he heard movement at the door and looked up to see Wei Chen walking in, he rushed towards him in excitement.

“Brother, I knew you’d come back!” Wei Wei hugged Wei Chen tightly, unable to hold back tears.

Wei Chen ruffled Wei Wei’s hair. “Go out and have fun with Wei Yan. I’ll handle things at home.”

Wei Wei obediently nodded. “Okay.”

“Wei Wei, let’s go. I’ll take you out to play,” Wei Yan extended his hand to Wei Wei.

Wei Wei held his hand, leaving with Wei Yan.

As they reached the door, Wei Wei glanced back, making sure Wei Chen hadn’t followed them. “Thank you, Wei Yan.”

“Why thank me?” Wei Yan looked at the child in front of him, finding him more endearing than before, cuter than his previous arrogant and fearless demeanor.

“Because you made Brother come back,” Wei Wei said.

He had felt helpless these past few days. He had witnessed how his father and grandfather treated his mother; they wouldn’t help him find her. Only his brother would, but his brother hadn’t agreed to return, leaving him feeling lost.

“You don’t have to thank me for that. Your brother came back on his own,” Wei Yan smiled. He could sense the child’s helplessness and fear, feeling even more disdain toward Wei Zhenxiong. Why wouldn’t they consider the child’s feelings amidst their marital discord?

“Wei Yan, does that mean Brother doesn’t hate me and Mom?” Wei Wei looked at Wei Yan, surprised.

Wei Yan shook his head. “I don’t know that answer. Your brother will have to tell you himself.”

“Oh,” Wei Wei lowered his head, feeling a bit disheartened.

  1. Thanks for the chapter! I hate it when adults act like fools and involve children in their messes. They decided to have a child, they should take responsibility, and make the kid the first priority. Keep their backstabbing away from the kids.
