Chapter 5: Not cute at all

012 had had many researchers.

Some of them had shown him pity, but pity did not lessen his suffering.

He still lay day after day on the cold dissection table, confined in the cold virus incubation box.

There was only one researcher who never used him to cultivate new viruses, but that one was the one 012 loathed the most.

What he did to him was another type of experiment. In that experiment, for the first time, 012 felt anger.

So he k*lled him.

From then on, 012 understood that researchers who wouldn’t cut him with knives might be trying to destroy him in another way.

Such humans were more dangerous than sharp knives.

Just like the one in front of him.

Seeing the disgust value appear above 012’s head, Yu Yan thought to himself, “This kid’s disgust value is increasing for no reason, just because he doesn’t want to wear pants?”

The pants lay on the ground, 012 didn’t even look at them, let alone try to put them on.

Yu Yan wasn’t angry but pondered that 012 might not be able to learn how to wear pants.

However, for the sake of his own eyes, 012 couldn’t remain unclothed. Yu Yan had no interest in observing another man.

At that moment, Su He arrived.

As the protagonist, Su He was not only a genius but also very kind-hearted.

Worried that her p*rverted senior might be tormenting the critically injured high-level experimental subject, she once again stepped into the lab she rarely visited.

“Junior, you came at the right time,” Yu Yan said, “Do you have an extra skirt? Give me one.”

The disgust value above 012’s head was less concerning to Yu Yan than the messy, loosely tied belt.

After glancing a few more times at the loose, almost untied belt around 012’s waist, Yu Yan felt the urge to go in and tie it properly but chose to look away to avoid further irritation.

His blood carried a virus, so the breeding area needed daily disinfection and cleaning.

During these times, he would sit in the isolation cage, gazing up at the disinfectant nozzles spraying mist that filled the entire breeding area.

He looked as quiet as a bird perching in the forest.

Because of 012 and Yu Yan’s recent leniency, the three assistant researchers spent more time near the breeding area every day.

Every morning when Yu Yan entered the lab, he would see the three of them standing outside the breeding area’s glass, discussing 012.

“So beautiful, like a white peacock,” they all marveled.

Yu Yan glanced over and saw 012 standing under the winter bell tree in the breeding area, tilting his head to lick the flower’s stamens.

Not like a white peacock, but clearly like a little white bat licking nectar.

“Dr. Kang, is he hungry? Do we need to prepare food for him?” Dazzled by the beauty, the usually fearful Xiao Pan dared to speak to Yu Yan proactively.

Yu Yan just remembered that 012 also needed to eat.

Nearly starving him to death, Yu Yan, despite his cold demeanor, felt a twinge of guilt.

“Alright, prepare some food for him.”

012’s food was synthetic plasma.

After the healing agent in his body took effect, he needed to start eating. But he had been hungry for two days without saying anything.

Assistant researcher Xiao Gao brought the plasma bags, which Yu Yan then delivered into the breeding area.

Yu Yan, holding his own lunch, watched how 012 ate.

After receiving the plasma bag, 012 examined it for a while. From his clumsy movements, Yu Yan inferred that he probably wasn’t used to eating this way before.

But soon, 012 began to eat.

He didn’t open the cap; instead, he bit through the bag and used his sharp teeth to suck the plasma inside.

The overflowing plasma trickled down his hand to his wrist, and 012 then raised his hand to lick his wrist, revealing a tongue that was slightly longer than a human’s.

It seemed his oral structure was different from that of humans, explaining his peculiar way of speaking.

While 012 drank plasma on one side of the glass, Yu Yan ate his meal on the other side. A moment later, he specifically asked Xiao Gao to bring a cup of watermelon juice to complete the scene.

He suddenly felt a pleasure similar to watching a small animal eat.

As a child, Yu Yan had wanted to be an animal keeper, doing nothing all day but watching various animals eat and drink and even petting them.

Unfortunately, as he grew up, he developed a constitution that small animals found repulsive. Cats and dogs in his neighborhood would turn away when they saw him.

Su He’s territory was entirely different from Kang Shi’s. Walking in felt like entering a large pet store.

Various lively and cheerful sounds echoed.

Considering that Senior Kang seemed to have changed a lot recently, Su He decided not to ask him to leave.

Since she often went to Kang Shi’s lab to check on experimental subject 012 recently, it made sense for Kang Shi to come and see her experimental subjects.

Just in case, Su He personally accompanied Yu Yan, introducing him to the experimental subjects in her lab.

Yu Yan watched the furry little cuties running around playing with balls in the enclosure and observed the scaly creatures climbing the artificial cave and swimming pool. Although his expression remained calm, a surge of envy welled up inside him.

His old dream of becoming an animal keeper was being revived.

“Finally, this is Xiao Ye’s territory. It’s a mutated silver wolf with a strong territorial instinct, classified as an A-level mutant, just one step away from S-level.”

When Su He introduced the last experimental subject, her expression became both gentle and proud.

She had every reason to be proud. It was incredibly difficult to elevate a mutant’s level, especially to cross into the higher tiers. No one had achieved this before, but this brilliant young woman did.

In the storyline, experimental subject 012 went berserk and killed many researchers and mutants in the research institute. Su He managed to escape safely under the protection of the silver wolf, which remained loyally by her side until the end.

The giant wolf, standing as tall as a person, opened its eyes at the sound of its keeper’s voice. Effortlessly, it leaped over the low fence and circled around Su He, its golden eyes fixed on Yu Yan.

“Xiao Ye is very smart. It can understand what I say,” Su He said as she ran her fingers through the big wolf’s fluffy fur.

Judging by its eyes, this creature’s gaze seemed even more human-like than that of 012.

At that moment, its gaze at Yu Yan was not very friendly.

Yu Yan said, “I feel like it wants to bite me.”

Su He, like a blindly protective mother, confidently replied, “No way, our Xiao Ye is a good boy and never initiates harm.”

Moments later, Yu Yan, having been chased out of Su He’s research area by the wolf, listened to Su He loudly scolding the “good boy” as he walked back to his own territory.

His experimental area was very quiet, with only a silent 012. He sat in the bushes, with only a small part of his body and a piece of his spread-out clothes visible.

Yu Yan thought that while other people’s little animals could be touched, his “little animal” could only be admired from a distance.

Not cute at all.
