Chapter 29: Come with me and I’ll listen to you.

Yu Yan let out a long hiss, turned his head, and asked, “Do I look like someone who wants to go with you?”

012 said, “You don’t want to go with me.”

Yu Yan replied, “See, it’s very obvious. It’s clear at a glance.”

He then elbowed back forcefully, saying, “Let go, I need to take my medicine.”

012 released him and took a step back.

Yu Yan rummaged through the cabinets to find a cup, filled it with water, and took his medicine.

He took several pills and needed to inject a dose of medication.

While taking his medicine, he held the cup with one hand, leaned against the counter, and spoke in a conversational tone, “So, tell me, what’s going on? How did you bring back Zhou Xiangcheng’s head?”

012 answered calmly and succinctly, “I asked Zhou Sheqing to take me to the Zhou family to see this person, and I killed him.”

Yu Yan asked, “So you didn’t kill Ms. Zhou Sheqing, right?”

012 replied, “If you want, I can go and kill her next time.”

Yu Yan quickly reached out to stop him from saying more, “Don’t go around killing people based on my likes or dislikes; I’m not into that.”

012 made no response, his gaze fixed on Yu Yan’s sliding Adam’s apple and moist lips.

“Where’s the person who was supposed to contact you?” Yu Yan asked, putting down the cup.

“Whether Zhou Sheqing bribed them or killed them, I don’t know.” 012 was indifferent to the fate of the unfamiliar humans and reached out to touch Yu Yan’s Adam’s apple.

Yu Yan tilted his head back to avoid his hand, saying, “Speak properly and stop being so touchy.”

Yu Yan’s movements were lazy, and he didn’t seem to resist 012’s touch, which did not make 012 angry. He looked at his sharp claws and, complying with the situation, lowered his hand to his side, appearing once again like the docile experimental subject trapped in the isolation box.

Docile? That was the biggest misconception. The head he brought was still in the cabinet behind them. Zhou Xiangcheng would be the first to disagree with the notion of docility.

Yu Yan had a rough understanding of the situation and planned to gather more details himself later.

The person in front of him was speaking in such brief and unhelpful terms that he didn’t seem capable of clarifying the matter.

Yu Yan pondered as he injected the medication into his arm and then took a cup of hot water to the living room. Noticing the slight movement behind him, 012 followed.

Sitting down on the sofa with his long legs stretched out on the coffee table, Yu Yan said without any hint of hospitality, “If you want water, get it yourself.”

Once released, one had to learn to be self-reliant and not expect personal service as in the lab.

The man lounging on the sofa appeared relaxed but was internally distressed, wondering how to get this person to leave.

When 012 heard about getting water, he looked at the cup on the coffee table, picked it up, and took a sip.

“Crash!” The cup fell to the floor, spilling hot water everywhere.

The little bird bat, who had never had hot water before, burned his mouth.

This situation was quite ridiculous, but upon closer reflection, it wasn’t entirely surprising. Whether due to 012’s genetic nature or the viral factors in his body, he was more suited to colder environments.

Since his creation in the lab, he had spent most of his time in low-temperature conditions. His food was cold plasma, and even the blood from animals he consumed was only about 38 degrees Celsius, not hot enough to burn.

Having just killed someone, and then burning his mouth with hot water—it was quite a turn of events.

“Quite the skill, I thought you could handle anything,” Yu Yan sighed, gesturing for him to sit aside and then motioning for him to open his mouth.

“Open your mouth, let me see.”

Yu Yan’s home was not only stocked with basic medications but also had tools he prepared based on his personal preferences.

He used a cold oral mirror to examine the inside of 012’s mouth and then took out a spray and applied it a few times inside.

“All done, hold it in your mouth and don’t swallow it.”

012 held the medication in his mouth, his cheeks slightly puffed.

Yu Yan patted his face and said, “How does it feel? Is your mouth very sore? Next time, remember not to drink random things.”

012 swallowed the medication and replied, “It feels the same as last time.”

Yu Yan looked down as he put away the medication and spray, “Which time?”

“Like when I held your skin. It’s very hot.”

Yu Yan instantly threw the spray at his face with a threatening smile, “Say one more word, and I’ll throw you out.”

He sat back down on the sofa, “Take that spray and apply it to your own mouth a couple of times.”

012 held the small bottle but didn’t move.

Yu Yan said, “Don’t look at me; I won’t help you with that.”

The small cleaning robot moved over to clean up the water on the floor, gently bumping into 012’s unmovable feet.

“Lift your feet,” Yu Yan said, nudging 012’s feet.

012 raised his feet, even hugging his own knee.

The sight was somewhat endearing, and Yu Yan, resting on the arm of the sofa, smiled as he looked at him.

012 let go of his knee and leaned over, resting his head on Yu Yan’s lap and gazing up at his face.

“Come with me, and I’ll listen to you.”

He was so light that resting on him felt like having no weight at all. However, the soft texture of his feathered hair could be felt through the pants.

“Oh,” Yu Yan said as he activated his terminal. “Earlier, I didn’t agree to go with you, yet you were quite obedient.”

He contacted Lu Qiufeng and Su He separately. Considering that 012’s actions might implicate them, Yu Yan did not mention that 012 was currently with him. Instead, he inquired about the follow-up for sending people out of the city and any response from Zhou Sheqing.

Lu Qiufeng responded that he hadn’t heard from the contact yet, but since the final payment hadn’t been made, they would definitely come for the money once they successfully delivered the people.

“Don’t worry. Although they’re not the best people, they are very honest in business,” Lu Qiufeng said confidently.

Yu Yan: ……

Su He mentioned that she couldn’t reach Zhou Sheqing for now, but when she last contacted her, Zhou Sheqing had said she wasn’t angry anymore about 012 leaving.

“I’m not sure what’s happening with Sheqing. I’ll contact her again later to check,” Su He said optimistically and cheerfully.

Yu Yan: ……

The little brother and little sister were quite pitiful, and thinking about himself, Yu Yan realized he was also a bit of a fool.

With 012’s head still resting on his lap, Yu Yan tapped his head with the terminal, “When are you leaving, hmm?”

“If the sheriff or the inspection team find this place, I’ll turn you in.”

012 lay on the sofa, and after Yu Yan pushed his head off his lap, he ended up lying next to him, closing his eyes.

Seeing that 012 seemed almost asleep, Yu Yan leaned in, pried his eyes open, and waved the terminal in front of his face, “Don’t be so complacent. I warn you, I really will expose you.”

012’s eyes, reflecting a hint of blue, replied, “You and I will be caught together.”

Yu Yan: Okay, he’s threatening me.

012’s shady identity meant that Yu Yan not only couldn’t hand him over but also had to hide him well. It was clear that 012 was well aware of this.

Unable to deceive him, Yu Yan decided not to trouble himself any further.

Fine, let’s see how long this kid can persist.

From then on, Yu Yan completely ignored the uninvited 012.

He leaned back on the sofa, watching a documentary, while 012 sat nearby. When Yu Yan got up to go to the bathroom, 012 followed him like a persistent ghost or a large pet with an automatic follow system.

Feeling unusually motivated for dinner, Yu Yan sauntered into the kitchen to cook. With his hand in his pocket, he leisurely flipped the meat chops with a spatula.

The meat in the pan sizzled, and 012, shut out of the kitchen, made the glass of the kitchen door rattle as he tried to get in.

Yu Yan acted as if he didn’t hear it, served his dinner on the table, and began eating slowly.

012 came over and sat beside him.

Yu Yan said, “I don’t have the food you want here. If you don’t want to go hungry, then leave.”

When some sauce accidentally got on the inside of his thumb, Yu Yan set his chopsticks down to grab a napkin. However, his hand was grabbed by 012, who bent down and licked it clean.

Yu Yan: ……

He had never licked his fingers so meticulously, not even with the overpriced finger-licking chicken he had.

“Let go.”

012 didn’t move.

“012, let go,” Yu Yan said, his tone more forceful.

012 still didn’t respond, showing his usual fascination with Yu Yan’s hands.

Yu Yan found it laughable in his frustration. What, did he think licking hands would alleviate hunger?

Unable to free his hand and too exhausted to get angry, Yu Yan switched to eating with his other hand, treating the situation as if his first hand were broken.

Once released, Yu Yan wiped his damp hand across 012’s beautiful face before heading off to wash his hands.

As he went upstairs to rest, Yu Yan tried once more to keep 012 out, but with a loud snap, the door lock was forcibly broken.

Looking back, Yu Yan saw that 012 had pushed the door open and followed him in.

Considering 012 had previously broken through 6A-grade glass in the lab, it was no surprise he could easily dismantle a door lock worth just over a hundred thousand.

Yu Yan realized that 012 only listened to what he wanted to hear and ignored the rest.

He lay down on the bed and closed his eyes, trying to relax.

With the fluttering of wings, another light figure settled on the bed next to Yu Yan, leaning over him.

As 012 moved closer, Yu Yan said calmly, “I can still manage the situation for now, though I need to take medication daily. But if things get worse, it’ll be a big problem. If you want me to die, just keep pushing.”

“……”

“Just because I don’t want to go with you, you want me dead?”

“……”

012 touched his lips.

This human said interesting things that made him want to listen, called him peculiar names like “Yao’er” with a smile, and also spoke words that stung him deeply.

He didn’t like hearing this, it felt like being back on the lab table, subjected to casual dissection.

Yu Yan deliberately said unpleasant things and waited calmly. Sure enough, 012 did not force anything. Instead, he simply embraced Yu Yan, folding his wings over him, almost wrapping him entirely.

The close embrace made it impossible for Yu Yan not to hear 012’s heartbeat, which was beating slightly faster than usual.

This wasn’t due to the embrace itself but the temperature.

In low-temperature environments, 012’s heart rate slowed down to a semi-hibernation energy-saving mode. In high-temperature environments, his body was struggling to cope with the accelerated function of his organs.

Over time, this would place a considerable burden on his body.

According to Lu Qiufeng, the outer city was harsher due to the lack of artificial barriers, with lower temperatures that would suit 012’s condition.

But he stubbornly refused to leave!

The sound of 012’s heartbeat grew louder in Yu Yan’s ears.

Yu Yan called for the electronic butler and lowered the room temperature, then gave 012 a firm kick to push him away and wrapped himself in a thick blanket.

012 was knocked over by the kick but quickly climbed back, his sharp claws reaching for the thick blanket, trying to tear it away.

Yu Yan scolded, “Behave yourself! If you want to cuddle, do it through the blanket, not under it.”

Both of them were testing each other’s tolerance, maintaining an unspoken but precarious balance that could shift at any moment.

Realizing this was the only option, 012 held Yu Yan, blanket and all.

In the lab, the space was small, so they could be very close. But the outside world was much larger, stretching the distance between them.

012 knew he yearned for this person more with each passing day, yet he understood that he might never truly have this human.

As the room’s temperature continued to drop, the cold air stabilized at a level 012 was accustomed to.

He rested his head on Yu Yan’s body and thought, This is a human who could be kind to him but is also indifferent.
