Chapter 357 – Looking to the Future

Xie Ting’an watched as Xu Jinning reviewed her notes, preparing for her graduation exams, and found it somewhat miraculous. After all, he knew that Xu Jinning had been a poor student in her past life.

However, he never thought Xu Jinning was stupid. Whether in her previous life or this one, if he had to describe Xu Jinning with one characteristic, it would be perceptiveness.

She seemed to see through human nature very clearly. In her past life, because she understood but was powerless to change things, she chose to be passive and ignore them.

Yet, no matter how well she masked it, Xie Ting’an knew she would still get hurt.

He also guessed that Xu Jinning’s poor academic performance in her previous life was due to the limitations of the storyline—it was a result of being “dumbed down” by the plot.

Now, having transmigrated into this world, with no narrative constraints and no plot device reducing her intelligence, she was gradually shining brightly.

The current Xu Jinning was the real Xu Jinning.

She was meant to be such a smart and dazzling presence.

Xie Ting’an was very glad that such a wonderful person was now close to him, and would one day be his wife and the mother of his children.

“Why do you keep staring at me?” Xu Jinning asked, feeling a bit uneasy as Xie Ting’an’s intense gaze remained fixed on her, even though she was bent over her work. She couldn’t help but look up and gave him a playful, reproachful glance.

“Do you think I won’t pass the exam?” Xu Jinning asked, recalling her past life as a poor student.

“No, on the contrary, I believe you’ll pass with ease. Ningning, you’re really smart,” Xie Ting’an said gently, his eyes warm and completely sincere.

This made Xu Jinning feel a bit shy.

“Ye-yeah, it’s okay. But I’ve been studying hard. I’m quite proficient in foreign languages and translation, so I believe I can do well,” Xu Jinning said with confidence.

“Mm, I believe you can definitely do it,” Xie Ting’an encouraged, patting her on the head.

A month quickly passed, and it was the day of Xu Jinning’s graduation exam.

In the large examination room, she was the only student, with two proctors present, one of whom was President Jiang Wenxu.

But Xu Jinning didn’t mind. She took the exam paper and began working, quickly immersing herself in it.

To avoid wasting time, Xu Jinning finished one subject’s paper and submitted it early before receiving the next subject’s paper and continuing the exam.

Her pace was incredibly fast.

President Jiang and the other proctor watched in astonishment. Considering that Xu Jinning was only in her second semester of freshman year and already participating in the graduation exam, her rapid pace and early submissions weren’t entirely surprising.

In just one morning, around three hours, Xu Jinning completed all the necessary exam papers.

“President, I’ve finished. Can I leave now?”

“Ah.” Jiang Wenxu, snapping back to reality as he held the papers, said, “Yes, yes. I’ll have the papers graded as soon as possible and will let you know your results quickly.”

“Great.”

Eager to know Xu Jinning’s results, Jiang Wenxu gathered the teachers from the relevant subjects that afternoon to grade her papers.

By that same afternoon, Xu Jinning’s results were out.

Seeing the perfect score, Jiang Wenxu was stunned.

Especially the teacher who graded Xu Jinning’s Chinese exam paper was particularly excited and emotional. After finishing the grading, the teacher, with a hint of tears in his eyes, handed Xu Jinning’s essay to President Jiang Wenxu.

“President, you must read this essay. It’s written so well. If our country could be like this in the future, it would be wonderful.”

Jiang Wenxu took the essay and began to read it.

The essay was about envisioning the future. Xu Jinning wrote about various advancements, such as the development of transportation, mentioning the introduction of subways and high-speed trains with impressive speed and smoothness.

She also described how communication would become more convenient, introducing a device called a cellphone, which would be palm-sized and capable of making phone calls as well as enabling face-to-face video calls over long distances. Additionally, she mentioned computers, which would allow people to stay informed about world events from home.

Jiang Wenxu was aware of computers, although they were not yet available domestically and were very large and expensive abroad.

In her essay, Xu Jinning also touched on future prospects such as compulsory education, where every child could attend school for free, everyone would have enough to eat, economic levels would improve, and people’s spiritual lives would be enriched.

She envisioned advancements in national technology, including satellite launches, human space travel to the moon, and powerful weapons ensuring no one would dare to bully the country.

After reading Xu Jinning’s essay, Jiang Wenxu removed his glasses, realizing his eyes had become misty at some point.

“It would be wonderful if our country’s future really turned out to be like what Xu Jinning described in this essay,” he couldn’t help but sigh.

Xu Jinning’s writing was so detailed that it felt to Jiang Wenxu as if she wasn’t just imagining the future but had actually lived through it. It was as though she wasn’t merely envisioning the future but describing it as if it were a reality.

The essay was so well-written that it naturally deserved a perfect score. If it weren’t for the limited number of points, President Jiang Wenxu would have added extra points just for its excellence.

At this moment, President Jiang understood that Xu Jinning was indeed an exceptional talent.

Such a talent, graduating early and starting internships ahead of time—what was the problem with that?

Because President Jiang and the other teachers present were so impressed with Xu Jinning’s essay, they decided to submit it to the Beijing Daily.

They felt that such a great essay about envisioning the future should be seen by more people—not just a few, but by the entire nation.

They wanted the whole country to see that the future of their motherland was extremely bright.

Just as Xu Jinning’s essay described, their country is like a rising lion, which will grow stronger and have an even brighter future.

After finishing her exams, Xu Jinning didn’t dwell on it or think too much about it.

She was not one to engage in self-doubt.

Since she had done her best and completed the exam, the results were beyond her control. Waiting for the results was the best approach.

Whether she did well or obtained her diploma was not something she needed to worry about.

Having finished the exam, she put it aside and waited for the results.

Her greater concern now was her sister and her sister’s pregnancy.

In the blink of an eye, her sister was now over three months pregnant, nearly four months, and her belly had started to show a slight bulge.

Xu Jinning increasingly saw a motherly tenderness in her sister.

Now that her sister’s morning sickness had passed, she had entered a phase with a very good appetite. During the morning sickness, she could only eat pickled vegetables and would vomit everything else. Now, she could eat anything—sour, spicy, or sweet.

This left Mother Song, the mother-in-law, both amused and helpless.

She had hoped to use Xu Fanghua’s cravings to guess whether the baby was a boy or a girl, but with Xu Fanghua’s preferences for both sour and spicy foods, it was impossible to make a guess.

  1. I often forget that the propaganda is strong in this one. It almost feels like this story was made in 2007 and not in the 2023-2024 era. I should check the release sate on this story to be sure, cause they are so heavy-handed with it.😂

I ignore my countries propaganda by default, so other countries don’t stand a chance. But this story is literally waving the flag in our faces and beating us with it.🤣🤣

  2. Bruh, the Glorious Mainland Propaganda is literally shoved into our throats 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️
