Chapter 54: The Five Yu Brothers’ Daily Life & Dr. Yu and the Male College Student 012 (Extra)

Yu Yan yawned lazily as he walked down from the second floor. Two people were already seated at the dining table.

The eldest brother, Yu Guang, had short, damp hair, clearly just washed.

He was known for his unwavering routine of getting up at 5:30 every morning to run over ten kilometers, always full of energy, and had the largest appetite.

In front of him was a large bowl of noodles, now reduced to just the bottom, and only one of the three baskets of steamed buns remained.

Sitting across from him, the second brother, Yu Mo, ate with a refined demeanor. Even though he was eating oil sticks, he looked exceptionally elegant.

“Third brother is up too. We have steamed buns, oil sticks, and soy milk for breakfast today. There’s also some noodles in the kitchen. What would you like to eat?” Fourth brother, Yu Shi, came out of the kitchen, wiping his hands and asking.

His eyes were bright, and standing in the clean living room, he exuded a reassuring and homely charm.

“I’ll have the noodles,” Yu Yan said as he turned into the kitchen to look for a bowl.

Fourth brother followed him in, opening a jar of sauce and saying, “I made a new sauce that goes really well with noodles. Third brother, would you like some?”

Yu Yan smelled the fragrant aroma, smiling as he replied, “Sure, give me two spoonfuls.”

The four of them sat at the dining table together. Fourth brother, Yu Shi, had already eaten but stayed at the table to accompany his brothers while drinking soy milk.

The eldest brother, Yu Guang, finished the last steamed bun in one bite and stood up, saying, “Fifth brother hasn’t woken up yet. I’ll go wake him up!”

The youngest brother, Yu Le, had the most irregular schedule, being a night owl who would only fall asleep after midnight.

There was a loud noise from upstairs, and moments later, Yu Guang came down holding Yu Le, who was as limp as a ragdoll.

Yu Le’s appearance was somewhere between a teenager and a young adult, with eyes resembling a cat’s and a demeanor that was as mysterious and sly as a cat’s.

Yu Guang held him, gripping the back of his neck like one would a cat, and scolded him:

“You promised Fourth Brother you’d have breakfast together every morning. How can you break your promise?”

As soon as the eldest brother released him, Yu Le draped himself over Fourth Brother Yu Shi’s shoulder, hugging his neck and said, “Fourth Brother, I want to have wontons for breakfast today.”

Yu Shi replied, “Alright, I’ll make them for you.”

Yu Le immediately flattered him with a kiss on the cheek, “I love Fourth Brother the most.”

After breakfast, the eldest brother was the first to leave for work. He was a civil servant at a mysterious government agency called the Non-Natural Ecological Protection Bureau and had risen to the rank of section chief.

But Yu Yan often felt that with his brother’s energy and physical condition, he seemed more like a special forces operative.

“I’m done eating, I’m leaving first,” said Second Brother Yu Mo, the quietest in the family, known for his cold and noble demeanor, and the youngest professor in the history of S City Law University.

Fourth Brother Yu Shi placed the wontons on the table and said, “Second Brother, drive carefully.”

Yu Yan also put down his chopsticks and stood up, wiping his mouth with a napkin. “Second Brother, wait for me. I don’t feel like driving today. Could you give me a ride?”

Yu Le leaned back in his chair and said, “Third Brother’s being lazy again today, huh?”

Yu Yan turned and threw the crumpled napkin at his forehead, laughing and scolding, “You little brat, who are you to criticize me?”

Yu Mo drove the car out, and Yu Yan got in, buckled his seatbelt, and leaned back to catch some more sleep.

The hospital had been overcrowded recently, and he worked late into the night every day. In the morning, his eyes barely opened. If it weren’t for Fourth Brother’s insistence on having breakfast together every morning, he would have slept through breakfast time.

The best caretaker in the family was Fourth Brother, Yu Shi. He wanted all his brothers to join him for meals, so whether it was the eldest brother who got up before dawn or the youngest brother who only went to bed at dawn, they all had to have breakfast together at this time.

Fourth Brother, the undisputed king of the Yu family.

The eldest brother’s orders might occasionally be ignored, but when Fourth Brother made a request, everyone had to comply, or life would be tough.

Second Brother Yu Mo’s car was the cleanest in the family. He had a bit of obsessive-compulsive disorder and liked everything neat and tidy.

Classical music played softly from the car’s stereo, and Yu Yan found it so soothing that he was about to fall asleep in less than a minute.

“If you’re going to sleep, cover yourself with the blanket.”

Hearing Second Brother’s deep voice, Yu Yan couldn’t even muster the energy to move his fingers. “Second Brother, help me out.”

The blanket was abruptly thrown over his head.

Yu Yan: “…”

Second Brother was the least indulgent of them all.

When they reached the hospital parking lot, Yu Yan got out of the car and started his busy day as a doctor.

After a busy morning, he only found time to eat lunch after one o’clock. In the evening, he would most likely have to work late again.

Around ten o’clock, Yu Yan, feeling drowsy, went out to get a coffee. Passing by the emergency room, he was drawn to a commotion.

A crowd had gathered, with nurses in uniform trying to mediate what seemed to be a fight.

He heard the slurred and unpleasant curses from a drunk patient causing trouble.

“Wow!” “Oh!”

As Yu Yan approached with his cup, he saw a pair of legs flung through the air, and the ground made a loud thud.

The crowd shifted to make way, allowing Yu Yan to see inside.

A red-faced, heavyset man was sprawled on the ground, grunting like a pig.

The one who had thrown him was a young man.

The young man, facing away from Yu Yan, was tall with strikingly beautiful silver hair. Judging by his attire and appearance, he seemed to be around twenty, likely a college student.

He suddenly turned his face, revealing a prominent nose and well-defined lips, and looked down at the man on the floor with a cold expression.

Unlike Second Brother Yu Mo’s detached and indifferent demeanor, this young man’s eyes were empty, as if he hadn’t really seen anything—cold and impersonal like shattered ice.

Yu Yan took a sip of his bitter coffee and found himself unexpectedly locking eyes with the cold young man.

Standing outside the crowd with his cup, Yu Yan smiled at him, finding the situation quite interesting.

A tall, lean guy with such explosive strength—who would have thought he could take down a drunk man who weighed at least 150 pounds so effortlessly without breaking a sweat?

As the onlookers dispersed and the drunk man was carried away, the emergency room returned to its usual order.

The silver-haired young man sat on a waiting chair, accompanied by two other young men who looked flushed and were slumped in their seats, suggesting that he had brought them in for medical attention.

Yu Yan, having enjoyed the spectacle, was about to leave when he noticed that the silver-haired young man kept staring at him.

After a moment’s thought, Yu Yan went to the nurse’s station to get a cup of hot water and approached the young man, offering it to him.

“Here, have some water.”

The young man took the water but continued to gaze at him and asked, “Are you a doctor here?”

It was a rather obvious question, and Yu Yan couldn’t help but smile. He tugged at his white coat and said, “Can’t you tell?”

The young man realized his question was a bit foolish, pressed his lips together, and asked, “What’s your name, and which department are you in?”

“You can just call me Dr. Yu. As for which department, are you looking to make an appointment with me?”

Feeling mischievous, Yu Yan deliberately said, “I’m a proctologist. If you need a check-up for hem*rrhoids, you can come see me.”

He then stifled his laughter, waved goodbye with his coffee cup, and walked away.

A few days later, the Double Ninth Festival arrived, and the Yu family had a rare day off.

The eldest brother, Yu Guang, suggested, “We could go hiking to get some exercise!”

He placed one hand on Second Brother Yu Mo’s shoulder and the other on Fourth Brother Yu Shi’s shoulder, beaming with a cheerful and sunny smile. “What do you all think?”

Yu Mo took off his glasses and wiped them, replying lightly, “I’m fine with anything.”

Yu Shi added, “Hiking for the Double Ninth Festival sounds good. We can prepare some food and have a picnic.”

Fifth Brother Yu Le, lounging on the sofa with his feet bare, munching on potato chips, didn’t really want to go, but seeing the three imposing mountains ahead, he felt resistance was futile. He decided to drag in the only absent brother, Third Brother.

“Third Brother is still working overtime. Shouldn’t we ask him?”

Third Brother was the laziest and most likely to align with him.

The eldest brother, Yu Guang, waved his hand dismissively, “We’ll tell him when he gets back.”

Yu Yan, exhausted from overworking, came home to find everyone else already asleep. Fourth Brother Yu Shi had stayed up to bring him a bowl of sweet dumplings as a late-night snack.

Yu Yan, too tired to process much, just nodded vaguely to whatever Yu Shi said about hiking the next day and went upstairs to bed.

The next morning, Yu Yan felt someone pulling him out of bed and heard chatter in his ears. Too drowsy to respond properly, he mumbled a few incoherent sounds and went back to sleep.

“Since we can’t wake Third Brother, should we just not go today?”

“It’s fine. I’ll carry him. Let’s go!”

In his sleep, Yu Yan was lifted and carried out the door by the eldest brother, Yu Guang, who even carried him up the mountain.

At the top of the mountain, Fourth Brother Yu Shi spread out a picnic blanket, and the four of them sat on the ground enjoying the view and eating. Yu Yan lay peacefully on the side, still asleep.

Thoughtful Yu Shi had placed a small blanket over him.

“It’s still early. Let’s take a walk by the river down below later,” Yu Shi suggested.

Yu Yan woke up from the chair by the riverbank, his neck stiff from reclining for too long.

He propped himself up and slowly pieced together what had happened.

During their outing and the hike, he had briefly woken up a few times. Connecting the snippets of conversation he had heard in his half-asleep state, it wasn’t hard to deduce the current situation.

His brothers had been having fun and left him on the riverside chair, forgetting all about him.

“Woof!”

Yu Yan looked down and noticed a large silver-haired young man in sportswear sitting next to him, holding a golden retriever, and looking at him.

“Hello?” Yu Yan recognized him as the young man who had subdued the drunk in the emergency room a few days ago.

“How long have you been sitting here?”

The young man replied, “About an hour. I came here to walk my dog and saw you sleeping here.”

Yu Yan: So, you’ve just been sitting here watching me for an hour?

“Were you keeping watch over me while I slept?” Yu Yan asked with a smile.

“I was waiting for you to wake up,” the young man said.

Yu Yan looked around, noticing that his brothers were nowhere in sight. He suddenly leaned in closer, put an arm around his shoulders, and asked, “Since you’re here walking your dog, do you live nearby?”

“Yes.”

“Do you live alone?”

“Yes.”

“Well, can I come over to your place to sleep? Is that alright?”

“…Sure.”

On this rare day off, Yu Yan had not managed to catch up on sleep properly. Still feeling tired after such a long rest, he urgently needed a comfortable place to sleep again.

So, he spent the day napping at the home of this stranger he had only met once before.

He woke up to find that it was already dark. The silver-haired young man brought out some food. Yu Yan, starving after a whole day of sleeping, didn’t hesitate and ate with him.

The still-unnamed silver-haired young man said, “You’re not a proctologist. I couldn’t find you.”

Yu Yan nearly choked on his food, astonished, “You really went looking for me?”

The young man’s gaze was fixed and unguarded, his emotions laid bare: “I wanted to meet you and get your contact information.”

Yu Yan realized the young man had an interest in him, which seemed illogical, but then again, it was equally illogical for him to have voluntarily come to a stranger’s house to sleep.

“Alright then.”

As he was about to leave after the meal, Yu Yan suddenly added, “By the way, your bed is very soft and comfortable.”

“If we meet again, I’ll give you my contact information. At that time, you can tell me your name.”
