Chapter 378 – Meeting the Future In-Laws for the First Time

Huang Minyue directly took Xu Xiangbei’s hand and joyfully announced, “Jinning, Brother Xiangbei and I are together now.”

Xu Jinning was surprised to hear that the confession had been successful!

She looked at her second brother, who, although blushing, still firmly held Huang Minyue’s hand and said, “Yes, Ningning, Yueyue and I are together.”

Xu Jinning’s eyes lit up. It seemed that they liked each other and were moving towards a mutual relationship.

That’s wonderful!

Xu Jinning was happy for her second brother and Huang Minyue.

“Minyue, what about your parents…” Xu Jinning hesitated to ask.

“Oh, I forgot to tell you, my parents won’t oppose me being with Brother Xiangbei…”

Huang Minyue then recounted the conversation she had with her parents a few nights ago.

Xu Jinning was moved after hearing this. It seemed that her godparents truly loved Minyue, and they were willing to support her desires.

Since that was the case, there was nothing to worry about.

The couple could pursue their relationship without any concerns.

However, her second brother was soon going to return to Qinghe Village, and they would have to part ways.

Clearly, Huang Minyue and Xu Xiangbei were aware of this too. They looked at each other with reluctance.

Since they had confirmed their relationship, Huang Minyue wanted to introduce Xu Xiangbei to her parents before he left Beijing.

Although Xu Xiangbei felt a bit anxious, he agreed.

If he was going to take away their only precious daughter, he naturally needed to make a good impression.

So, they planned to go in the afternoon.

At noon, the two had their meal at the small courtyard, where Xu Fanghua also learned about their relationship and expressed her blessings.

As the eldest among all the Xu family’s children, Xu Fanghua naturally hoped that each of her younger siblings would find happiness.

Watching her younger brother and sister chatting and laughing at the dinner table, Xu Fanghua couldn’t help but recall the inner thoughts she had heard from her younger sister years ago.

In their original fate, their family was destined for ruin.

Their father was framed and slandered, lost his job, and fell into despair.

Her eldest brother had his leg broken and ended up marrying a woman he didn’t love.

Her younger brother was also framed and even lost his life.

As for her, she was forced to marry someone she didn’t love and eventually died from domestic violence, miscarriage, and severe bleeding.

Xu Fanghua could hardly imagine how desperate and heartbroken her mother must have been at that time.

Fortunately, the appearance of her younger sister allowed them to hear her inner thoughts and completely changed their fate, leading everything to move in a positive direction.

Her younger sister was truly the family’s lucky star.

“Big sister, why are you just staring at me and not eating? Is there something on my face?” Xu Jinning noticed that her elder sister had been looking at her and felt puzzled, asking.

Xu Fanghua smiled and said, “It’s nothing. I just think our family’s Ningning is so wonderful.”

Xu Xiangbei immediately agreed, “My younger sister is certainly very good.”

Xu Jinning didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. The high recognition from her family warmed her heart.

After lunch, and after resting for a while, Xu Xiangbei prepared to accompany Huang Minyue to her family’s home.

Xu Xiangbei had also bought quite a few gifts.

After all, this was Xu Xiangbei’s first meeting with his future in-laws after confirming his relationship with Huang Minyue, so he couldn’t be casual about it.

“Brother Xiangbei, don’t be nervous. My parents are very nice and they’ve agreed to us being together, so you don’t need to worry.”

“I’m not worried; I’m just nervous.”

Huang Minyue tightened her grip on his hand and said, “Don’t be afraid, I’m here with you.”

“Okay.” Xu Xiangbei took a deep breath and stepped into the Huang family home.

Huang Yuxian and Bai Ling had been waiting at home for some time.

Their daughter had called them from the small courtyard in the afternoon, saying that after lunch, she would bring Xu Xiangbei to meet them.

Since he was their future son-in-law, they naturally wanted to prepare properly and wait at home.

Carrying the gifts, Xu Xiangbei followed Huang Minyue inside and soon saw Huang Yuxian and Bai Ling sitting on the sofa.

Seeing them, Xu Xiangbei, who had promised not to be nervous, found himself feeling even more anxious. To be honest, he was more nervous now than when Huang Minyue confessed her feelings to him that morning.

He even felt momentarily blank, unsure of what to say next.

“Mom, Dad, I brought Brother Xiangbei to meet you.”

After speaking, Huang Minyue turned to look at Xu Xiangbei, who was standing there, clearly nervous.

Huang Minyue quickly tugged at the corner of his clothes and said, “Brother Xiangbei, greet my parents.”

Xu Xiangbei seemed to snap out of his daze, responded with an “Oh,” and then, while bowing, said loudly, “Mom, Dad, I am Xu Xiangbei.”

As soon as he spoke, not only Huang Minyue but also Huang Yuxian and Bai Ling were taken aback.

Bai Ling covered her mouth and laughed.

Huang Yuxian shot Xu Xiangbei a look: “My daughter isn’t married to you yet. Isn’t it a bit early to call us ‘Mom’ and ‘Dad’?”

Huang Minyue also didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

“Brother Xiangbei, why are you…”

It was only then that Xu Xiangbei realized he had mistakenly referred to Huang Yuxian and Bai Ling as “Mom and Dad” along with Minyue. He was so flustered.

He quickly tried to correct himself, “No, Uncle and Aunt, I… I was too nervous and made a mistake.”

Xu Xiangbei’s face turned red with embarrassment, and he was so anxious that he didn’t know what to say, despite usually being articulate.

He was even a bit afraid, worried that his mistake might make Huang Yuxian and Bai Ling dislike him and think he was foolish.

To be honest, Bai Ling did find Xu Xiangbei a bit foolish at the moment.

But it was this very naivety that made Bai Ling more accepting of him.

If Xu Xiangbei had been calm and composed, talking smoothly despite meeting them for the first time, Bai Ling might have doubted his genuine feelings for her daughter.

After all, when someone is truly in love, facing the parents of the person they love, who will become their future in-laws, it’s impossible to be completely calm and collected.

“It’s alright, calling us ‘Mom and Dad’ now is fine. After all, you’ll have to call us that eventually,” Bai Ling said, helping Xu Xiangbei out of his awkward situation.

This made Xu Xiangbei feel relieved, knowing that Aunt Bai was likely satisfied with him. It also indicated that she supported his relationship with Minyue.

“Alright, have a seat,” Huang Yuxian said, noticing that Xu Xiangbei would have stood there awkwardly forever if he hadn’t spoken up.

Perhaps because the initial awkwardness had not led to any negative feelings from Huang Yuxian and Bai Ling, Xu Xiangbei’s nervousness decreased considerably once he sat down.

Huang Yuxian asked Xu Xiangbei about his future plans.

Xu Xiangbei answered honestly.

As for Xu Xiangbei’s decision to go into business, Huang Yuxian didn’t see any issue with it. As long as it was legal, earned money, and could ensure his daughter’s happiness, Huang Yuxian was fine with whatever Xu Xiangbei chose to do.

Every profession deserved respect.
