Chapter 386 – Improper Relations?

Song Yi’s roommate was the first to notice and inquire about the situation.

As soon as Song Yi returned from Professor Ning Di’s office and sat down, his roommate wrapped an arm around his shoulder and whispered, “Song Yi, look around. Do you see it?”

Song Yi was still lost in thought over a medical problem when he heard his roommate’s question, feeling puzzled.

He looked around but saw nothing unusual.

“I don’t see anything.”

“Really? You don’t see anything?”

Song Yi was even more confused. “Am I supposed to see something?”

His roommate replied, “Look again, or better yet, use your peripheral vision.”

“Don’t you see the intense jealousy coming from all directions?”

Song Yi initially thought something serious was happening but soon realized that his roommate’s comment was rather unconvincing.

Even other friends in the dorm had gathered around.

“Yeah, Song Yi, don’t you feel it? We all feel it for you. If looks could kill, you’d be dead multiple times by now.”

Song Yi still didn’t quite understand. “What did I do?”

“What haven’t you done? Tell me, how did you earn Professor Ning Di’s favor?”

“Look at how many times you’ve been to Professor Ning’s office in the past half-month.”

“People have even seen you coming out of her private residence.”

“Some are even saying that you might be sacrificing yourself for the sake of medicine.”

At first, Song Yi was a bit stunned by this last remark, but he soon understood the implication.

It seemed people were jumping to negative conclusions about his relationship with Professor Ning Di.

Song Yi was somewhat annoyed. How could people think such things? Professor Ning Di was his wife’s aunt—she was from the older generation.

“Of course, Song Yi, we don’t think that way, but we can’t stop others from being jealous and spreading rumors about you.”

They believed in Song Yi’s character and knew how deeply he cared for his wife. There was no way Song Yi would do anything to betray her.

Besides, Song Yi was a study fanatic.

He would spend 24 hours a day studying if he didn’t need to sleep.

“However, Song Yi, you’ve been getting close to Professor Ning Di recently. We know it’s for studying, but she used to leave right after class. Now, she’s staying behind, and people say it’s because of you.”

They knew that once Song Yi was immersed in his studies, he wouldn’t notice external matters, so as his roommates and friends, they felt it was their duty to remind him.

Song Yi sighed and looked at his roommates. “Actually, Professor Ning Di is staying after class because I wanted to ask her some questions.”

“It’s true that people have seen me coming out of Professor Ning’s private residence.”

“What? It’s true?!”

Song Yi nodded. “Yes, but the reasons behind it are completely different from what people think. As for the details…”

“Shall we talk about it once we’re back in the dorm and close the door?” Song Yi suggested.

“Then let’s hurry back to the dorm!” his roommates urged.

Soon, Song Yi was dragged back to the dorm.

As soon as he sat down, a glass of water was handed to him. “Here, Song Yi, have some water. Let’s talk slowly…”

Song Yi, with a glass of water in hand: ……

Faced with several pairs of bright, gossiping eyes, Song Yi didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. He then explained, “The reason I’ve gained Professor Ning Di’s favor is because…”

“I have to call her ‘Aunt’!”

“Aunt?!”

“To be precise, Professor Ning Di is my wife’s aunt, so as my wife’s husband, I naturally have to call her ‘Aunt’ too…”

While it wasn’t something to broadcast widely, there was no need to hide it either.

So, Song Yi straightforwardly revealed his relationship with Ning Di.

“…That’s why Professor Ning Di has been giving me special attention.”

“Ah, I see now.”

The people in the dorm realized the situation.

“Song Yi, you’re amazing. To have such a powerful aunt like Professor Ning Di.”

“Yes, Professor Ning Di’s position in international medicine is unmatched. She’s a medical giant.”

“If I had such a relative, I’d be over the moon.”

“No wonder Professor Ning Di is giving you special attention and letting you into her private residence. It makes sense since you’re family.”

“Song Yi, I never expected that your connections would extend to Country A as well.”

“What connections?” Song Yi rolled his eyes at his roommates. “I’m just benefiting from my wife’s connections.”

Without Fanghua’s relationship, would he have caught Professor Ning Di’s eye?

Even if he had exceptional talent, Professor Ning Di had seen many talented individuals. Why would she treat him differently?

So, it all came down to being Fanghua’s husband.

Ning Di being his aunt is just an extension of her affection for Fanghua.

“Does this mean you can frequently get special attention from Professor Ning Di in the future?”

Song Yi shook his head. “There’s something I need to tell you all, just so you’re prepared, but don’t share it with anyone else.”

He then informed them that Professor Ning Di would be returning to China soon. There was a high possibility she would settle there, so her returning to teach at their school was almost non-existent.

“But, Aunt said the school will arrange for another expert to take her place, so we shouldn’t worry.”

“That’s a relief. But I can’t imagine anyone being better than Professor Ning Di. I still prefer her.”

“Well, how about we find a time to visit Professor Ning Di before she leaves?” Song Yi suggested.

His roommates were stunned. “Can we really do that?”

“Yes, it’s something Aunt mentioned before,” Song Yi explained. Since his roommates were also from China, studying abroad together, and had a good relationship with Ning Di, as well as admired her, Ning Di had said they could visit her before she returned to China if they wanted.

“So, do you want to?”

“Definitely!”

“Ah, Song Yi, you’re a great friend.”

“After coming to Country A to study, Professor Ning Di has been my biggest idol. It’s amazing that we’ll get a chance to interact with her up close.”

Seeing his roommates so happy, Song Yi couldn’t help but smile, even though he felt a bit amused.

Finally, after another half month, there was concrete news about Ning Di and Hans returning to their country. Their trip was arranged under the guise of a medical exchange, with their first stop being Beijing University.

The plane tickets for this trip were arranged by the officials from Country A.

On the day of their departure, Song Yi went to the airport to see them off. He also entrusted the items he wanted to give to Xu Fanghua to Ning Di.
