Chapter 421 – By Any Means Necessary, Keep Them Here!
Xu Jinning knew staying in Hong Kong was dangerous—dangerous for her and dangerous for Lin Wangshu, especially since Lin Wangshu was pregnant. Moreover, they didn’t know whether Shen Huai had discovered Lin Wangshu’s departure, so it was best to leave as soon as possible.
“You’re afraid of Shen Huai, aren’t you?”
“Don’t worry, Shen Huai won’t come today. He left early in the morning, saying he’d be out all day.”
“Xu Jinning, you want to take me away. Shouldn’t you answer some of my questions first? Otherwise, how do I know you’re not lying to me?”
Xu Jinning frowned slightly. “You can ask me on the way!”
“No, once we’re on the road, there’s no turning back.”
Xu Jinning laughed. “Do you really think you have a way back now? Would you dare return to Shen Huai’s side? Are you willing to gamble with your life and your child’s life to see if I’m lying? To see if Shen Huai loves you? Xu Jinwen, where’s that clear-headed mind you had in modern times? How is it that I didn’t know you’d become so love-obsessed?”
Lin Wangshu choked on her words. She didn’t know how Xu Jinning had suddenly become so talkative and sharp-tongued.
Wasn’t Xie Ting’an the one who was supposed to be sharp-tongued?!
Just as Lin Wangshu was about to speak again, Xu Jinning continued, “Xu Jinwen, for someone who writes novels, you should know better.”
“Don’t you know that talking too much wastes time? Often, the protagonist fails to achieve their goal or kill their target because of it?”
“Do you really think your luck is that good, that you won’t end up leading Shen Huai here?”
Xu Jinning’s words left Lin Wangshu speechless.
Of course, she knew these things.
She knew all about villains who died from talking too much!
“Fine, I’ll go with you.” Since she was already here, she had made up her mind that even if Xu Jinning was planning to set her up, she had to leave with her. Staying by Shen Huai’s side was out of the question—she didn’t want to end up being sacrificed.
So, she decided to follow Xu Jinning.
“Follow me, and if you have any questions, ask them on the way.”
With that, Lin Wangshu, carrying a bag, followed Xu Jinning out of the restaurant.
Xu Jinning was leading Lin Wangshu toward the direction of the harbor, where they had purchased tickets for a boat leaving in about half an hour.
The harbor wasn’t far, and they had plenty of time, so they took a car to get there.
The car drove slowly toward the harbor.
Lin Wangshu glanced at Xu Jinning beside her, wanting to ask something but feeling it wasn’t the right time. She held back in the end.
After driving for about ten minutes, the car suddenly came to a screeching halt.
Thankfully, both were wearing seatbelts; otherwise, they would have been thrown around violently.
“What’s going on?”
“There’s a car trying to force us to stop!” the driver responded.
It wasn’t just one car but several, all surrounding them, trying to force them to a halt.
Lin Wangshu’s heart skipped a beat. “Could it be Shen Huai? Did he find out? No, that’s impossible. He left for something important today, didn’t he?”
She had been extremely cautious, fearing that Shen Huai would discover her escape and drag her back.
She knew that once she decided to flee, being caught again would mean dire consequences.
“But don’t worry, we have our cars nearby too. We’ll be fine,” the driver reassured.
Xu Jinning nodded.
It was then that Lin Wangshu realized this driver was one of Xu Jinning’s people.
Since Xu Jinning had brought him along, he must be capable.
Moreover, hadn’t he just said they had other cars around?
So, they should be able to leave safely, right?
The driver wasn’t wrong. The cars trying to stop them were soon surrounded by other vehicles, unable to get close.
After making a turn, the driver accelerated, continuing to take Xu Jinning and Lin Wangshu toward the harbor.
Xu Jinning frowned slightly.
She had known from the start that things wouldn’t be easy or go smoothly, and now it was clear she was right.
The people in those cars were likely Shen Huai’s men.
In Hong Kong, the only person who wouldn’t want them to leave safely was Shen Huai. Lin Wangshu was crucial to Shen Huai’s ambitions, so there was no way he would just let her leave.
Perhaps Lin Wangshu thought she had concealed her plans well, but Shen Huai had still discovered them.
His claim of being away all day could very well have been a lie to mislead Lin Wangshu.
Xu Jinning feared that this wouldn’t be Shen Huai’s only attempt to stop them.
He might resort to even more drastic measures to prevent their escape.
And what about the harbor? Hopefully, Shen Huai hadn’t stationed anyone there.
All Xu Jinning could do was pray.
Heavens, I’ve risked my life coming to Hong Kong, largely for your sake. Please protect each of us.
As it turned out, Xu Jinning’s suspicions were almost entirely correct.
At that moment, Shen Huai was sitting in the backseat of one of the pursuing cars.
His face was grim as he watched the car ahead gradually move out of sight.
Inside that car were Xu Jinning and his wife, Lin Wangshu!
Their vehicle had been blocked by other cars, and it wasn’t until Xu Jinning’s car disappeared from view that the blockade finally dispersed.
Shen Huai’s eyes were filled with a dark fury.
“Boss, should we keep chasing them?”
“Chase them!”
“Head toward the harbor. Pass down the order—if necessary, use guns to stop them. My wife must be brought back alive.”
“Yes, sir.”
Shen Huai hadn’t originally planned to use firearms. Although Hong Kong was his territory, he wasn’t yet the head of the Shen family. Even here, his power was limited.
He was constantly under threat from assassination attempts by other members of the Shen family.
That’s why Shen Huai had always kept a low profile when traveling.
Let alone using guns.
If he resorted to firearms, it could attract the attention of other members of the Shen family, leading to significant trouble afterward.
But now, Shen Huai couldn’t afford to worry about that.
He had to stop Xu Jinning!
And he couldn’t let Lin Wangshu leave.
If Lin Wangshu escaped, where would he find the luck and fortune he sought? The reason he insisted on keeping Lin Wangshu alive was that her death would be useless— the sacrificial ritual he intended to perform could only be carried out while she was alive.
Shen Huai never imagined that Xu Jinning, of all people, would come to Hong Kong and even try to sway Lin Wangshu.
Moreover, Lin Wangshu might have overheard his conversation with Master Long Ming yesterday.
If it hadn’t been for the fact that one of the nannies was secretly working for him and reported Lin Wangshu’s strange behavior, he wouldn’t have known anything.
But even then, he found out too late.
By the time he learned of it, Lin Wangshu had already left the Shen family estate.
It took him great effort to find out that she had gone to that Western restaurant.
But by the time he arrived, they had already left.
It was only after considerable difficulty that he discovered they planned to leave by car.
Judging by the direction they were headed, they were trying to leave Hong Kong by boat to reach the mainland.
But there was no way Shen Huai would let them escape.
So, he quickly mobilized his men and cars to block them.
What he hadn’t expected was that Xu Jinning came prepared this time, bringing a lot of people with her.
Since peaceful methods couldn’t solve the problem, force was the only option left to stop them!
