Chapter 7: Wen Xia, Be My Girlfriend

Qin Mo glanced at the small figure in the kitchen. She seemed to be quite liked by Jiang Yu and Qin Ande.

In the past life, when Jiang Yu met Wen Xia for the first time, she had given her a bank card.

He attributed it to Wen Xia’s likable appearance.

“I have money.”

He had received a lot of red envelopes as a child, and he also owned several commercial properties. Renting them out brought in a few thousand yuan a month.

Qin Ande was aware of this and didn’t push the matter further. After that, the two didn’t speak.

At that moment, a “ding-dong” sound from a phone notification broke the silence. Wen Xia quickly wiped her hands and answered the phone. “Yan Yan, wait downstairs for me, I’ll be right there.”

After hanging up, she apologized, “Aunt Qin, I have to leave now.”

“Okay, Mo Mo, take Xia Xia back,” Jiang Yu said, turning to Qin Mo, who was sitting on the sofa.

“Mom, no need. I can go back myself.” Wen Xia realized she had accidentally called her Mom again and immediately blushed, “Aunt Qin.”

Jiang Yu chuckled lightly and said, “It’s fine, Xia Xia. Just call me whatever comes naturally.”

Wen Xia felt a bit awkward. She really didn’t mean to call her Mom.

Qin Mo, who had been quietly watching, now smiled at her.

Wen Xia shot him a glare, knowing he was probably enjoying her embarrassment. “You don’t need to take me. Jiang Yan is waiting downstairs, I’ll go to school with her.”

……

Downstairs, Jiang Yan was waiting with a large backpack and another big bag of things. When she saw Wen Xia running over from the community, she called out, “Xia Xia, where have you been?”

“I went to my cousin’s house for dinner.” Wen Xia caught her breath and helped carry one of the bags.

The two of them headed up the stairs.

“Your cousin lives here too? How come you never mentioned it before?”

“He just moved in recently.”

“I thought so. Suddenly, you have a cousin? Xia Xia, my mom packed some canned food, I’ll give you a can when we go back to school.”

“Okay.”

Wen Xia had already packed her things early in the morning. She glanced at the items Qin Mo had brought, most of which were fruits. She put what could be stored in the fridge and took the rest with her to school to eat.

They both had a lot of things, so they took a ride in a shared cab, each paying 2.5 yuan.

They first returned to the school dormitory to drop off their stuff, then left the school gates to buy some clips.

As long as it wasn’t yet 6 p.m., students could come and go freely at the school gates.

While Jiang Yan was picking out clips, Wen Xia answered a call from Qin Mo. “Hello?”

“Where are you?”

“I’m at school.”

“Okay, study hard, Wife.”

Wen Xia instantly smiled, her eyes curving with amusement. She glanced at Jiang Yan, covering her mouth and speaking softly, “Husband, you too.”

“Xia Xia! Who are you talking to?” Jiang Yan walked over.

Wen Xia, caught off guard, quickly hung up the phone. “My cousin.”

Jiang Yan raised an eyebrow and teased, “Xia Xia, with the way you smiled just now, I thought you were dating someone.”

Not dating—already married.

Wen Xia laughed and playfully hit her. “Who would I be dating with? With you?”

Jiang Yan chuckled, holding up two hairpins. “Xia Xia, which one looks better?”

“The silver one,” Wen Xia pointed.

……

6 p.m.

Study time began. Sunday night’s study session was usually reserved for students to catch up on homework.

Liu An’an and Jiang Yan skipped over Wen Xia and borrowed homework from others to start copying. Wen Xia glanced at them before taking out her textbooks to review and preview her lessons.

After some time, when she hadn’t made any noise, Liu An’an looked at her and asked, “Xia Xia, aren’t you copying homework?”

Jiang Yan leaned over to glance at Wen Xia’s desk, assuming she hadn’t borrowed any homework to copy. “Xia Xia, wait for me for two minutes, I’ll copy it right away.”

“No need, I’m done.” Wen Xia looked at them with a smile.

Liu An’an and Jiang Yan gasped in disbelief.

Liu An’an raised an eyebrow in suspicion. “Xia Xia, can you actually do it?”

Wen Xia: “…”

“No, my cousin taught me.”

“Xia Xia, how come you’re mentioning your cousin in almost every sentence now?” Jiang Yan asked, grinning as she copied her homework.

Liu An’an turned to look at her and teased, “You don’t get it, do you? It’s the charm of a handsome cousin. Ah, I wish I had a handsome cousin helping me with my homework.”

“An’an, if your brother hears that, he’ll beat you up,” Jiang Yan laughed.

Liu An’an’s brother also studied at the second high school, a senior in high school.

Their conversation caught the attention of the class monitor, He Sheng. “Jiang Yan, Liu An’an, Wen Xia, no talking.”

Wen Xia: “…”

Class monitor, did you forget to clean your glasses?

Immediately, Liu An’an and Jiang Yan shrank their necks and buried their heads in their homework.

The following two study periods were quiet. By the time they returned to the dorm, it was already 9 p.m.

After washing up, Wen Xia returned to her upper bunk, took a book, and started reading.

Below her, Jiang Yan poked Liu An’an and motioned for her to look at Wen Xia. She whispered, “Do you think something happened to Xia Xia?”

“Maybe Teacher Xue scolded her. She’s probably holding something in.” Liu An’an bit into an apple.

Wen Xia felt her phone vibrate and quickly crawled into her blanket, lowering her voice. “Hello?”

“What are you doing?”

“Reading.”

“Don’t read too long, it’s bad for your eyes.”

“Okay.”

“Wife, good night.”

“Husband, good night.”

As soon as Wen Xia hung up the phone, the lights went out. She turned on her desk lamp, pulled the bed curtain around her, and continued reading. The curtain kept the light from disturbing anyone else.

There was another person in the dorm also reading. Her name was Xu Min, a quiet girl with excellent grades, always in the top ten of the grade.

By 11 p.m., Xu Min turned off her light and went to bed. When she noticed a faint glow still coming from Wen Xia’s direction, she glanced over.

……

At 6:40 a.m., Wen Xia woke up with a yawn. Fortunately, she had been the class monitor before, so this early wake-up time had become routine for her.

As she was about to head downstairs, someone suddenly placed a hand on her shoulder. It was a boy, not very good-looking, with acne all over his face. His jacket hung loosely off his shoulder.

Thinking himself to be very cool and confident, he raised an eyebrow and said, “Wen Xia, be my girlfriend.”

He looked like one of those school troublemakers.

Wen Xia pushed his hand away, clearly annoyed. “Get lost.”

Liu An’an and Jiang Yan quickly moved to protect her on either side.

Jiang Yan growled, “What’s wrong with you? Hands off the girl, no manners.”

“F*ck you, say that again!” The boy was furious, raising his fist as if to strike, but he hesitated when he remembered something and didn’t actually swing.

Liu An’an, hearing his words, immediately placed her hands on her hips and cursed, “F*ck off, you little loser! You’re ugly as hell, covered in pimples, and you still want to be Wen Xia’s boyfriend? Pfft!”

Jiang Yan shot him a disdainful look, adding, “Yeah, a toad trying to eat a swan’s meat. Ugly freak!”

Wen Xia, at 27 or 28 years old, had already gotten past the phase of cursing people out when she was a class monitor.

Seeing that the boy was clenching his fists in anger, she quickly stepped forward, shielding Jiang Yan and Liu An’an behind her. She then glared at his acne-covered face. “I refuse. You’re so ugly.”

……

On the way back to the classroom, Liu An’an and Jiang Yan couldn’t help but burst into laughter. “I’m dying of laughter!”

“Xia Xia, you’re amazing, even throwing in English like that.”

“You two are still laughing? Aren’t you afraid he’ll hit you?” Wen Xia said, feeling both helpless and warmed.

Only the friendships formed in high school could be so pure, not thinking about the consequences.

“What’s there to be afraid of? If he dares to hit me, I’ll just have my brother beat him up.” Liu An’an waved her little fist.

“Yeah, if he dares to hit me, I’ll go home and tell my dad, and have him arrest him.” Jiang Yan grinned.

Jiang Yan’s dad was a police officer at the local precinct.
