Chapter 13: No.2 Middle School’s Three Quick Rules
“Ow~”
Jiang Yan immediately looked up, her expression reluctant.
If she had to say what she hated the most, it was definitely running. Even walking the 3000 meters would exhaust her to death.
“Teacher Cao, I have a heart condition, and the doctor said I can’t do intense exercise.”
Cao Jun had been the class leader for many years and had seen all kinds of tricks, so he wasn’t moved. “I’ll call your dad in a moment. If you really have a heart condition, we’ll find someone else to take your place.”
Hearing this, Jiang Yan’s eyes instantly widened. Her dad, with his explosive temper, would definitely beat her if he found out she was pretending to have a heart condition. “No, no, no! Teacher Cao, I was just joking.”
Liu An’an couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
Wen Xia tried hard to hold back her laughter. She didn’t want to find happiness from someone else’s misfortune.
But she couldn’t hold it in and ended up laughing too.
Jiang Yan shot them an angry glare and gritted her teeth, “We’re not friends for five minutes!”
He Lin, known for her gentle personality, although unwilling, didn’t react as strongly as Jiang Yan when called upon.
When Cao Jun left, Jiang Yan felt like all hope was lost. She buried her head on the desk and started crying in despair. “It’s over, it’s all over. After the sports meet, there will be no more Jiang Yan.”
Wen Xia and Liu An’an were once again amused by her. Liu An’an gently patted her head and said with a mischievous smile, “Yan Yan, don’t worry. Xia Xia and I will definitely collect your body afterward.”
“An’an is right.” Wen Xia showed her teeth in a smile, agreeing with her.
“Liu An’an, Wen Xia, we’re not friends for ten minutes!” Jiang Yan shouted angrily.
In the row behind them, Jiang Xu was sitting with his legs crossed, constantly looking at Wen Xia. When he saw her laugh, he laughed along with her.
Jiang Xu’s deskmate, Su Bo, noticed this and nudged him with his elbow, teasing, “Brother, if you keep staring like that, your eyeballs are going to fall out.”
Caught in the act, Jiang Xu felt a bit embarrassed and then grumbled, “Go away, none of your business.”
Su Bo didn’t mind Jiang Xu’s tone and continued, “I’m telling you, brother, we’re already in the second year of high school. If you don’t step it up now, graduation will be here before you know it.”
“Mind your own business. When you manage to catch the goddess from the class next door, then you can show off to me,” Jiang Xu snorted.
Su Bo didn’t respond but raised his eyebrows.
Jiang Xu’s face darkened. “You actually caught her?” His tone had a hint of jealousy.
Su Bo nodded, his smugness obvious. “We’ve been together since last week. We even went out on Saturday, and by the way…” He grinned mischievously.
It was clear what he meant by that.
“Get lost, get lost, go away.” Jiang Xu was a bit envious.
Su Bo, carefree and cocky, had already managed to win the goddess from the class next door, while Jiang Xu still hadn’t even caught Wen Xia’s attention. Was he too unattractive?
He found himself sinking into self-doubt.
*
The next day marked the monthly exam.
Wen Xia was assigned to take the test in her own class, while Liu An’an and Jiang Yan were in the class next door.
In front of Wen Xia was the study monitor, Xu Min. In the past, this would have been very helpful for cheating, but now, Wen Xia had to take the test honestly and assess her own abilities.
The morning exams consisted of Chinese and Math.
The Chinese exam went fairly smoothly, but the Math one was more challenging. Even though she had been paying close attention to lessons in the past two weeks, her foundation was still too weak.
After the exams finished, Wen Xia tidied up her scratch paper and placed it on her desk, then took out the lunchboxes for herself, Jiang Yan, and Liu An’an as she waited for them.
“Xia Xia, I’m doomed,” Jiang Yan groaned weakly.
It was obvious she had been destroyed by the Math exam.
Liu An’an, with a dejected look on her face, shouted, “This Math exam was so hard. I spent thirty minutes just writing, then slept for an hour and a half.”
Wen Xia: “…”
“I told you to pay attention in class, but you didn’t listen. Now you know how tough it is.”
She patted both of their shoulders and said generously, “Try harder next time. Now, let’s go. I’ll treat you to some steamed pork ribs to comfort your wounded souls.”
Jiang Yan immediately perked up and hurriedly dropped her scratch paper. “Let’s go quickly, or there won’t be any steamed pork ribs left.”
…
The three of them rushed to the cafeteria and found that it was already quite crowded.
Jiang Yan claimed a table while Wen Xia and Liu An’an lined up.
Since they arrived late, the line was long.
Liu An’an peeked ahead to see if she could spot any familiar faces. Sure enough, she found one and shamelessly pulled Wen Xia forward to cut in line.
As for Liu Boyi, who was wearing the student council armband, they completely ignored him.
Liu Boyi pretended not to notice and continued walking to manage the order.
Wen Xia’s “old face” burned with embarrassment. Although she had often done such immoral things back in her student days, she had long since changed her ways.
However, when faced with the choice between waiting in a long line for cold dishes or cutting in line for hot dishes, she still made the immoral choice to cut.
And they weren’t the only ones cutting in line—someone else had slipped ahead while Liu Boyi wasn’t looking.
It was lucky they cut in line; otherwise, they wouldn’t have gotten the steamed pork ribs today.
After they got their food, Liu Boyi told Liu An’an, “Save two more seats.” He glanced at Wen Xia quickly, but the glance was so brief that neither Wen Xia nor Liu An’an noticed.
“I’ll go check. Jiang Yan saved the seats today.” Liu An’an nodded.
Jiang Yan had only saved three seats, and the other seats were already taken by students who had just gotten their food.
Liu An’an had no choice but to inform Liu Boyi and then returned to her seat to eat.
Jiang Yan spat out a bone. “An’an, hurry up and eat, today’s pork ribs are really delicious.”
Liu An’an picked up a piece with her spoon and popped it into her mouth. “Mmm, so good… to eat.”
…
The washbasins were crowded at the moment, and Wen Xia, Liu An’an, and Jiang Yan couldn’t squeeze in, so they waited by the side.
At No.2 Middle School, there were three rules for mealtime: eat quickly, run quickly, and wash quickly.
If you were slow in the first two, it directly affected the third.
When Liu Boyi and Zhou Qing came out after eating, they saw the three of them.
They walked over, and Liu Boyi’s unique magnetic voice rang out, “Give me your bowls. Hurry back and review for the afternoon’s exam. Afterward, just come to the cafeteria, and Zhou Qing and I will get your food for you.”
The only perk of being in the student council was that you could get food a few minutes earlier.
Wen Xia felt embarrassed to let him wash the dishes, quickly shaking her head. “No need…”
Before she could finish her sentence, Liu An’an grabbed the lunchbox and shoved it into Liu Boyi’s hands, saying boldly, “Then thank you, Brother!”
Jiang Yan’s lunchbox was taken by Zhou Qing, and her face turned as red as a cooked duck.
Liu An’an dragged the two of them away, speaking confidently, “Xia Xia, Yan Yan, what are you being polite about? My brother is your brother too.”
When Zhou Qing wasn’t around, Jiang Yan returned to her lively self and pretended to complain, “An’an, honestly, if I were your brother, I wouldn’t want you as my sister.”
“Jiang Yan! Watch me not pinch you!” Liu An’an immediately went for Jiang Yan’s waist.
Jiang Yan instantly dashed ahead. “Hahaha… I’m sorry, An’an!”
Wen Xia watched the two of them tease each other, but to her surprise, Jiang Yan and Liu An’an turned around and started tickling her.
The three of them immediately broke into playful chaos, laughing together.
As they passed by the convenience store, Jiang Yan pulled Wen Xia and Liu An’an in, buying each of them a bottle of milk.
Wen Xia and Liu An’an didn’t hesitate to accept.
The three of them drank their milk, and noticing it was still early, they decided to take a walk around the sports field.
