Chapter 33: An Indirect Admission of Early Romance
Jiang Xu?
?
!
Wen Xia felt her mind go blank. What did this have to do with Jiang Xu?
Wasn’t it supposed to be Qin Shueba?
When she finally reacted, she let out a small “Huh?” and glanced at Cao Jun’s face. She opened her mouth to say something but couldn’t make a sound.
Why did she just shake her head earlier? Wasn’t that an indirect admission of early romance?
How was she going to explain this to Cao Jun now?
If she said it wasn’t Jiang Xu, Cao Jun would definitely ask who it was.
The “crime” of her early romance was already as good as confirmed.
She wanted to take a sip of milk tea to calm her nerves.
After struggling for half a minute, she took a deep breath and prepared to explain. “Teacher Cao, I—”
A voice interrupted her, “Teacher Cao, I need to talk to you.”
Qi Yu walked over with one hand casually tucked into his pocket. He might have just woken up, as the left side of his face bore the marks of having been pressed against something.
He was the one student Cao Jun wouldn’t and couldn’t discipline—not that he dared to, either.
Qi Yu’s parents worked at the education bureau. Not just the teachers, even the principal had to treat him with respect.
Cao Jun had no choice but to say to Wen Xia, “Wen Xia, head back to the classroom and focus on your studies. The teacher believes in you.”
After saying that, he turned to look at Qi Yu’s hair, which had grown down to his eyebrows. “Your hair is too long. Get it cut this week.”
Qi Yu grunted in acknowledgment and raised an eyebrow at Wen Xia, who was still standing there.
Wen Xia stood still for a few seconds before turning and heading back to the classroom.
…
Liu An’an and Jiang Yan immediately flanked her on either side as soon as she stepped into the hallway.
“Xia Xia, are you okay?” Liu An’an asked worriedly.
Jiang Yan’s face was also full of concern.
“I’m fine,” Wen Xia shook her head.
Liu An’an sighed in relief and, indignant on her friend’s behalf, said angrily, “Who’s such a jerk to report something that never happened?”
After the lunch break, rumors spread that Wen Xia and Jiang Xu had been accused of early romance and reported to the school’s disciplinary office.
“I was reported?” Wen Xia froze for a moment.
No wonder—she had been wondering why the rumor about her early romance had suddenly spread.
“Xia Xia, you didn’t know? Someone reported you and Jiang Xu to the disciplinary director, and that’s how the class teacher got involved,” Jiang Yan said in a hushed tone.
Wen Xia realized she was being targeted. She glanced around the classroom and saw that most of her classmates were looking at her group with gossipy expressions. However, as soon as her gaze met theirs, they quickly looked away.
She still didn’t understand where some classmates’ hostility toward her came from.
Pressing her lips together, she remained silent for a few seconds before bending down to pull out a cup of milk tea. She handed it to Liu An’an and Jiang Yan. “Your Uncle Wen bought this for you.”
Jiang Yan, who had known her since middle school, could tell that Wen Xia wasn’t in a great mood. She reached out to gently pat her back. “Xia Xia, did Uncle Wen scold you?”
“Of course not. Your Uncle Wen is super gentle.”
Wen Xia laughed and pinched Jiang Yan’s cheek, teasingly adding, “Yan Yan, you’ve gained weight again. Your face is so chubby now.”
Jiang Yan had been wailing earlier that morning because she couldn’t fit into her jeans. Hearing this, her face fell, and she stomped her foot. “Wen Xia, I’m not talking to you anymore!”
“Yan Yan, you have to face the reality of gaining weight with courage,” Liu An’an chimed in, joining Wen Xia in teasing her. She patted Jiang Yan’s shoulder.
“Friendship over for ten minutes,” Jiang Yan huffed as she stomped off with her milk tea.
…
A few seconds later, the bell rang. The next class was physics, and Cao Jun continued from where he had left off in the previous lesson.
As Wen Xia was taking notes, a draft notebook was suddenly passed to her. On it was a line written in neat handwriting: “Are you okay?”
She turned to look at Xu Min, smiled, and whispered, “I’m fine, thank you.” Then she handed the notebook back.
Cao Jun glanced at the two of them, assuming they were discussing a problem they didn’t understand. “It seems some of you didn’t quite get it. Let me go over this question again—listen carefully. This type of problem has appeared in previous college entrance exams.”
