Chapter 43: If it’s my cousin, then it’s fine

Wen Xia suddenly thought of a question and quickly typed a message: [Did you block Dad on Moments?!!]

There was silence on the other side for a minute before a reply came: [Dad deleted me.]

Wen Xia: “……”

She replied: [Why? What did you say?]

[I said, ‘Hello, I’m Qin Mo,’ and Dad deleted me. Wife, I think Dad has a big problem with me.]

The words Qin Mo sent conveyed a sense of grievance.

Wen Xia: “……”

For her early relationship, Wen De had reluctantly agreed, and he even introduced himself directly.

Ahem…

If it weren’t for the fact that Qin Mo looked decent, Wen De probably wouldn’t have even agreed reluctantly.

“Bang bang!! Beds one, two, and three, put away your phones and go to sleep!” The dormitory aunt stood at the door, tapping on the iron gate.

Wen Xia quickly turned off her screen and stuffed her phone under her pillow. After two or three minutes, she peeked her head out from the blanket, making sure the dormitory aunt was gone before she took out her phone and replied to Qin Mo.

Qin Mo had sent three more messages.

[Asking for comfort.]

[Asking for a hug.]

[Asking for a kiss.]

……

Monday, noon.

The five of them took up a six-person table. Liu An’an and Wen Xia exchanged glances, grinning as they intentionally let Zhou Qing and Jiang Yan sit together.

Jiang Yan’s face was almost as red as her neck. Liu An’an couldn’t help but laugh. “Brother Zhou Qing, hehe, Xia Xia and I want some candy.”

Zhou Qing was also a little embarrassed, nodding as he said, “I already bought it. Later, Yan Yan will share it with you.”

Hearing the words “Yan Yan,” Liu An’an exclaimed, raising her eyebrows at Jiang Yan. Jiang Yan buried her head even lower.

Liu Boyi tapped Liu An’an on the head. “Hurry up and eat.” He glanced at Wen Xia, who was laughing beside them.

Wen Xia noticed that most of the ribs today were just the side ingredients, with only three or four pieces of actual ribs. She was about to complain when Liu An’an unexpectedly asked, “Xia Xia, what do you think of my brother?”

Liu An’an glanced back and forth between Wen Xia and Liu Boyi. Hmm, although her brother wasn’t exactly good enough for Wen Xia, he was still passable.

Wen Xia froze for a moment, then quickly cleared her throat a few times and drank some water to calm herself.

Liu An’an licked her spoon. “As the saying goes, good things shouldn’t be wasted on outsiders. Xia Xia, my brother may not be great, but he’s still… well, okay… Oh no, Xia Xia, I was kidding, let go!”

“You’re too cruel, Xia Xia, let go now.”

Once Wen Xia let go, Liu An’an rubbed her own thigh.

Wen Xia glanced at Liu Boyi and pretended to speak harshly, “Brother Boyi, go home and have Aunt Liu and Uncle Liu give her a good scolding for making such jokes.”

“Xia Xia, you’re too harsh, can’t you just forgive me?” Liu An’an pleaded, picking up a piece of rib and offering it to her in a gesture of appeasement.

Liu Boyi looked at Wen Xia. Other than a hint of embarrassment on her face, there was no other reaction. He lowered his head and took a bite of food. “Alright.”

“Brother! Are you still my real brother?!” Liu An’an looked at him with a pitiful expression.

“Hehe, An’an, you’re in trouble now. When you get a beating, call me and Xia Xia, so we can enjoy the show.” Jiang Yan, who had just turned red from Liu An’an’s teasing, didn’t hold back and added fuel to the fire.

“Yan Yan, I’ll get you for this!” Liu An’an playfully pinched her neck.

After eating, Zhou Qing and Liu Boyi took on the task of washing the dishes.

The three girls, each with a lollipop in hand, strolled along the road slowly.

Liu An’an suddenly leaned toward Jiang Yan with a mischievous grin. “Yan Yan, have you and Brother Zhou Qing…?” she asked, mimicking a kissing gesture.

Jiang Yan’s face turned bright red. “No… we haven’t.”

Then, feeling a bit guilty, Liu An’an changed the topic back to Wen Xia. “Xia Xia, actually, Brother Boyi is pretty good.”

Wen Xia: “……”

Under their gaze, she said seriously, “I’m married.”

Liu An’an and Jiang Yan both scoffed in disbelief, and Liu An’an grinned. “Hehe, Xia Xia, if my brother isn’t good enough, then what about Qi Yu or Jiang Xu?”

Wen Xia: “……”

“If it’s my ‘cousin,’ then it’s fine.”

Liu An’an and Jiang Yan burst into laughter, both thinking she was joking.

Once again, they missed the truth.

As they passed the display board, they noticed it had been updated. Qin Mo’s solo photo took up one-fifth of the space. It had been taken near the school’s flower bed, and it was rare to see anyone look so good in the school’s notoriously unflattering camera shots.

“Xia Xia.” Two girls suddenly called out to Wen Xia.

Wen Xia turned around. They seemed to be from Class 3. She asked, puzzled, “What’s up?”

The girl in a white cotton jacket with straight bangs fumbled a bit. “Wen Xia, could you… give this to… your cousin, please?” She handed over a pink envelope.

The envelope had a big red heart on it.

……

Just after finishing his meal, Qin Mo received a multimedia message from Wen Xia—a pink envelope with a red heart. He raised an eyebrow and immediately dialed her number.

When she picked up, he said, “Wife, I lost it. If you want it, I’ll write you a letter every day.”

He assumed it was a love letter from some other guy.

Wen Xia glanced at He Sheng and Xu Min, then bent down and whispered under the table, “It’s for you, from someone else.”

Qin Mo tapped his phone and leaned against the balcony. “Wife, are you so bored? Copy the high school math formulas ten times, I’ll check on Saturday.”

“……”

Wen Xia hung up the phone.

By Wednesday, the students were restless and eager to leave school. Some were already planning to sneak out during the big cleaning session in the afternoon, climbing over the small shop’s wall to get some fresh air.

Liu An’an finished a math test and was feeling miserable. After class, she dragged Wen Xia and Jiang Yan to the bathroom. “Xia Xia, Yan Yan, let’s go get some milk tea. I’m about to suffocate in here.”

Wen Xia replied, “Teacher Cao won’t let us skip.”

Seeing her blink, Liu An’an knew exactly what that meant. “No way.”

Actually, climbing walls was something she had done many times in high school.

“Come on, Xia Xia, you went last time when you said it. I went with you,” Liu An’an said, shaking Wen Xia’s arm.

In the end, Wen Xia gave in.

When the last class ended, the three of them sneakily ran to the back of the small shop, where the wall was the shortest, about 1.7 meters tall.

Three or five boys were already climbing over, including Qi Yu.

He glanced at Wen Xia. “Do you need help?”

Wen Xia declined, “No, it’s fine.”

Qi Yu didn’t say anything further but stayed by the wall without climbing over.

Following the usual routine, Jiang Yan helped Liu An’an and Wen Xia climb over. As soon as Wen Xia’s hand touched the wall, she heard a sharp voice. “Which class are you from? Come down immediately!”

The boys, hearing the voice, swiftly climbed over and ran off, leaving only Wen Xia, Jiang Yan, Liu An’an, and Qi Yu.

Wen Xia: “……”

Liu An’an: “……”

Jiang Yan: “……”

The three of them lowered their heads and walked over.

It wasn’t the school director or the head of the department, but rather the security guard uncle. He said, “Which class are you from? Show me your school ID.”

None of them had it, so Liu An’an weakly lied, “We don’t have it.”

“If you don’t have it, then come with me to the security office to register!” the security guard uncle said.

Going to the security office would definitely mean their parents would be called in.

Wen Xia immediately admitted their mistake. “Uncle, we know we were wrong, we won’t do it again. Uncle, if the teachers find out, we’ll get a demerit.”

“You know you’ll get a demerit and still climb over!” The security guard uncle looked at them for a few moments. They seemed a bit familiar, like students from Class 8. “Go back, and don’t do this next time.”
