Chapter 45: Want to Change Your Husband? Give Up Early
Cao Jun walked over and saw Wen Xia with her head lowered. Assuming she had been reprimanded, he glanced at her a few times but decided it wasn’t his place to intervene. Turning around, he entered the classroom and instructed the noisy students to settle down for their lunchtime nap.
Qin Mo raised his wrist to check the time: 1:28 PM. There were still forty minutes before class started. He said, “Go tell Teacher Cao that I’m taking you out for a bit.”
“What for?” Wen Xia tilted her head up. A section of her fair neck peeked out from the red scarf she was wearing, but she quickly pulled it back in—it was too cold.
Qin Mo chuckled, reached out to adjust her scarf snugly, and teased, “What else? I’m afraid my wife won’t get her milk tea today, and then she’ll sneak over the campus wall again tonight.”
Wen Xia: “…”
She glanced around nervously, gave him a quick poke in the waist, and threatened him weakly before heading off to inform Cao Jun.
Cao Jun agreed readily. With a parent accompanying her, the student didn’t need to write a leave request.
However, the leave was only valid during lunchtime.
…
Security Office
Qin Mo was registering his name and ID number. The security guard from the previous day, who had caught Wen Xia climbing over the campus wall, glanced at her a few times and asked with a cheerful grin, “You’re the student who climbed the wall yesterday, right? Got a good scolding, huh?”
Wen Xia: “…”
Qin Mo looked up. “My Xia Xia caused you some trouble yesterday.”
“Oh, it’s no trouble,” the guard replied warmly, waving his hand. “Just don’t climb again next time.”
The two of them left the school gates and headed to Wen Xia’s favorite milk tea shop. Since it was school hours, the shop was quiet with hardly any customers.
Qin Mo ordered a half-sugar milk tea first. Then, he took out six hundred yuan, handed it to the shop owner, and said, “Please deliver three cups of milk tea to the school gates on Tuesdays and Thursdays at lunchtime. Thanks.”
As he spoke, he wrote down a phone number and added, “If this amount isn’t enough, just call this number, and I’ll come by to top it up.”
Wen Xia tugged at his sleeve. “That’s way too much.”
Qin Mo lowered his head to glance at her but didn’t say anything. Instead, he turned back to the shop owner.
The milk tea shop owner was momentarily stunned by Qin Mo’s generosity. It wasn’t common for a high schooler to casually take out 600 yuan.
After counting out 160 milk tea tickets, the owner handed them over with a smile. “We’ve added ten extra tickets as a gift. Each time you pick up milk tea, just give us three tickets.”
“Thank you.”
Qin Mo accepted the bundle of tickets, bent down, and tucked them into Wen Xia’s pocket. “If you want something to eat, just call me.”
Then, he smiled faintly and added, “I don’t have to climb walls.”
“Qin Mo, one more word, and we’re breaking up.” Wen Xia tilted her head back, puffed up her cheeks, and huffed at him.
“Go ahead and try,” he retorted, tapping her lightly on the head. He then pulled her to a seat, held her icy hands, and slipped them into the pocket of his hoodie. “Thinking of changing husbands in this lifetime?”
“Better give up early.”
Wen Xia: “…”
She turned her head to look at him, her face breaking into a mischievous smile. “I like holding onto golden thighs.”
“Then hold on tight,” Qin Mo said with a chuckle before leaning down to kiss her lightly.
The milk tea shop owner: “…”
He pretended not to see anything and silently placed the milk tea on their table.
Qin Mo grabbed a straw, punctured the lid, and handed the cup to Wen Xia. Watching her sip with satisfaction, he raised an eyebrow and asked, “What’s sina + sinb equal to?”
The question came out of nowhere, catching Wen Xia off guard. She nearly spat out her milk tea. “Cough, cough…”
She gave him a wounded look. “Husband, can we not bring up math formulas on a date?”
“Don’t know the answer? Hmm?” Qin Mo raised his brows. “You’ll write it out twenty times when we get back.”
Wen Xia: “…”
Is he the devil?
“It’s sina + sinb = 2sin[(a+b)/2]cos[(a−b)/2].”
“And what’s sina × sinb equal to?”
…
It might sound unbelievable, but Wen Xia had spent half an hour memorizing math formulas.
After the wall-climbing incident, Wen Xia and her two friends became much more disciplined. Under the “deadly” supervision of Qin Shueba, Wen Xia spent every spare moment reciting and writing math formulas. By bedtime, her head was crammed with equations, leaving her dreaming in math.
That night, she had a bizarre dream. In it, she and Qin Mo were getting married. When the officiant asked Qin Mo if he would take Wen Xia as his wife, Qin Mo casually replied, “What’s the basic inequality?”
Wen Xia couldn’t for the life of her remember what it was.
She woke up with a start, startling Jiang Yan, who was just about to wake her up. “Oh my god, Xia Xia, you scared me! Were you just muttering the basic inequality in your sleep? Are you possessed?”
Wen Xia, her hair in a wild mess, sighed weakly. “Maybe I am.”
Grabbing her phone, she sent a message to a certain someone:
[Qin Mo, you bastard!]
The reply came instantly—a call from Qin Mo. “Nightmare? What was it this time—did I cheat on you or get caught in bed?”
After years of marriage, he had grown used to such scolding first thing in the morning.
Wen Xia huffed and demanded, “What’s the basic inequality?”
Qin Mo, brushing his teeth, paused. “…”
This was a bit much for the morning.
Spitting out the foam, he answered smoothly, “The square root of ab is less than or equal to (a + b) divided by 2.”
Wen Xia hung up and began getting ready for the day—brushing her teeth and washing her face. It was the first day of the midterm exams.
The first subject was Chinese. Wen Xia stayed in her classroom for the test. After finishing her essay, she still had over ten minutes left. She reviewed her work briefly before setting her pen down.
Qi Yu, seated diagonally in front of her, had been napping since the start of the exam.
After the Chinese exam ended, there was a twenty-minute break before the math exam began.
As she started the test, Wen Xia realized that almost everything Qin Mo had drilled into her was on the test.
Then she reached the first fill-in-the-blank question. She froze for a moment—it required the basic inequality.
“…”
…
After the math exam, Jiang Yan excitedly hugged Wen Xia and laughed. “Xia Xia, I owe it all to you! When I heard you talking about the basic inequality this morning, I looked it up. I can’t believe it was on the test!”
“Xia Xia, spill it—who came to you in a dream to tell you this?”
Wen Xia opened the lunchboxes for the three of them and joked with a grin, “I prayed to my cousin last night.”
“Ahhhh!!! I completely forgot about that! No way, I need to go pray to your handsome cousin right away!”
To her surprise, Jiang Yan actually believed her.
Wen Xia: “…”
“Yan Yan, please be rational.”
Liu An’an, who had been taking her test in Class 10, finally came back. She burst in excitedly. “Xia Xia, how did you answer the first fill-in-the-blank question?”
“There were five fill-in-the-blank questions, but that’s the only one I could do. I really hope it’s correct!” Wen Xia replied.
“3.”
Wen Xia hesitated and added, “But it could also be 2. I’m not entirely sure.”
Liu An’an laughed. “I also wrote 3! Hahaha!”
Jiang Yan, who had been excited earlier, suddenly went quiet. After a pause, she asked tentatively, “Could it be… 238?”
Wen Xia and Liu Anan: “…”
Answers for fill-in-the-blank questions usually aren’t that big.
Realizing her mistake, Jiang Yan’s face fell. “I feel like crying.”
Wen Xia and Liu An’an patted her shoulder in sympathy but couldn’t help bursting into laughter.
“Xia Xia, An’an, I’m cutting ties with both of you for five minutes!” Jiang Yan pouted and glared at them.
…
With the math exam over, Wen Xia felt a huge weight lift off her shoulders. In the afternoon English test, everything went smoothly. This time, she didn’t purposely make mistakes; she wanted to see how much the gap would be between her and the top science scorer if she achieved full marks in English.
That evening, the teachers worked overtime to grade the completed tests. Liu Zhiwei, while marking one of the math papers, was both exasperated and amused. Drawing a giant X across an answer, he exclaimed, “Which class is this student from? 238! Was their math teacher a PE instructor?”
The next day was the science exam. The physics section was a bit challenging, but biology and chemistry were relatively straightforward.
Thanks to the teachers’ efficiency, all the tests from the day were graded that same evening. The only thing left was to input the scores into the system.
