Chapter 50: She’s not my girlfriend. I don’t have that kind of patience

“Compared to a straight-A student, I’d much rather have a handsome cousin—rich, good-looking, and academically brilliant. As his cousin, I could just slack off and enjoy life,” Liu An’an said, her eyes sparkling.

Wen Xia covered Liu An’an’s eyes, striking a possessive pose. “Heh, don’t even think about it. The handsome cousin is mine.”

Liu An’an pried Wen Xia’s hand away and exchanged a glance with Jiang Yan. The next second, the two of them started tickling her. Wen Xia toppled over, laughing uncontrollably and admitting defeat. “Alright, alright! I was wrong! I shouldn’t have shown off.”

There were still ten minutes left before nap time. Wen Xia took her phone to the restroom to call Qin Mo and brag about her score of 653.

The call rang for a long time but went unanswered.

She tried again, and this time, it was picked up after only a few seconds. “Hello, Qin Mo is busy and can’t take the call right now,” a girl’s voice said.

Wen Xia tapped her phone with her finger. “Let Qin Mo answer. Tell him Wen Xia is looking for him.”

“He’s busy.”

The girl’s voice was pleasant, but to Wen Xia, it sounded grating.

“Hand the phone to Qin Mo. I don’t care if he’s busy—just give him the phone,” Wen Xia said, her temper rising.

At that moment, Qin Mo’s cold voice came through. “Who told you to touch my phone?”

Then, his voice became clearer as he took the phone. “Xia Xia.”

Wen Xia pouted. “Qin Mo, I need an explanation.”

“Alright, give me a moment,” he replied.

Qin Mo cast a frosty glance at the girl standing before him, then walked to a quieter spot with his phone. “Xia Xia?”

Wen Xia responded with a soft “Mm.”

“Our group was doing a chemistry experiment, and someone lost the previous report, so we had to redo it. Zhao Zichuan and the others were also there. Just now, I went back to the classroom to get a pen, leaving my jacket in the lab.”

Qin Mo patiently explained to his wife. If he didn’t explain things clearly, there was a good chance… well, cough… they’d be sleeping in separate beds again.

Although, they were already sleeping in separate beds.

Wen Xia let out a couple of playful “hmphs” before breaking into a bright smile. “I scored 643 points. Husband, aren’t I amazing?”

643 points. That was actually pretty good.

Qin Mo’s voice dropped slightly, laced with a hint of indulgence. “My wife is truly amazing…”

“Qin Mo, come over and take a look. Something seems to have gone wrong again,” the girl’s voice called out once more.

Wen Xia didn’t want to delay him any further. “Go on, focus on your experiment. I’m going to take a nap now.” With that, she hung up the phone.

The experiment failed again, and Qin Mo’s brow furrowed with growing impatience. He had never been known for his great temper. “Who told you to add the reagent now?” he asked sharply.

The girl who had answered his phone earlier spoke softly, “I read in the book that it should be added, so I added it. I’m sorry for dragging everyone down.” Her tone was apologetic, almost tearful.

“Do you even know what you’re doing? If not, why would you add something?” Qin Mo shot back.

He had opposed letting her join their group in the first place, but Zhao Zichuan and the others had insisted on including her because she was pretty.

The girl had a petite face, exceptionally fair skin, and delicate features. She was indeed beautiful. Now, with her reddened eyes and trembling voice, she looked pitiful enough to evoke sympathy.

“I didn’t mean to do it, Qin Mo. I’m really sorry,” she said, her voice carrying a hint of a sob.

Zhao Zichuan tugged at Qin Mo’s sleeve, signaling him to ease up. Then, Zhao Zichuan took the blame himself. “I told her to add the reagent. It’s my fault. Qin Mo, let’s just do it again.”

“I don’t have time to play with you guys. I need to go pacify my girlfriend,” Qin Mo said coldly, giving Zhao Zichuan a glance before grabbing his jacket and leaving the lab.

Zhao Zichuan: “…”

The others in the lab exchanged glances. Truthfully, it wasn’t just Qin Mo who was annoyed. The other boys were also frustrated. The experiment was already complex, and they had been close to finishing before it failed again.

To make matters worse, the missing report had been lost because that same girl had lent it to others and misplaced it.

Qin Mo tried calling Wen Xia several times, but she didn’t pick up. She must have set her phone to silent.

Zhou Gang entered the classroom to check on the students during their lunch break and noticed that two girls were missing. Worried that something might have happened, he sent someone to find them. When they were brought back, one of the girls had swollen, tear-streaked eyes.

After learning about the situation, Teacher Zhou called Qin Mo outside and gently said, “Qin Mo, I heard you had a disagreement with a female classmate. Everyone makes mistakes sometimes. Try to be more understanding.”

Qin Mo tugged at the collar of his sweater and replied, “She’s not my girlfriend. I don’t have that kind of patience.”

Zhou Gang: “…”

He coughed awkwardly several times, trying to process the bluntness of today’s youth.

“Well, go back inside,” he finally said.

Zhao Zichuan watched Qin Mo with a worried expression. “Qin Mo, are you alright?”

Clearly, Qin Mo hadn’t said anything harsh to the girl, yet the situation made it seem as if he had b*llied her.

Feeling guilty, Zhao Zichuan added, “I’m sorry. Next time, we won’t include her in the group.”

Wen Xia noticed Qin Mo’s missed calls after finishing lunch. She called him back, and when he answered, she said, “My phone was on silent, so I didn’t hear it. What’s up?”

“Wife, the teacher scolded me,” Qin Mo said, his voice carrying a hint of grievance.

Though, in truth, he was smiling as he said it.

“Huh? Why?” Wen Xia glanced around at her classmates and lowered her voice. “Is it because of… early dating?”

When Qin Mo explained the real reason, Wen Xia was speechless: “…”

Qin Mo raised an eyebrow and added, “Wife, I handled it pretty well, didn’t I?”

“Barely acceptable,” Wen Xia teased, letting out a couple of playful “hmphs.”

“I want two kisses as a reward,” Qin Mo shamelessly demanded.

Beside him, Zhao Zichuan watched as Qin Mo worked on his practice sheet while simultaneously spouting romantic nonsense, and said: “…”

How did he manage to balance studying and dating so effortlessly?

After Qin Mo ended the call, Zhao Zichuan couldn’t help but comment, “Qin Mo, I’m still sitting right here. Don’t you think saying stuff like that is… a bit inappropriate?”

Qin Mo glanced at Zhao Zichuan. “You’ll get used to it.”

Zhao Zichuan: “…”

Being so brazen about early dating—he had to be the first.

It was the second period on Tuesday, a Chinese class.

When they got to the essay section of the test, the Chinese teacher, Wang An, adjusted his glasses and said, “This time, the essay topic was to write a letter to yourself ten years in the future. What kind of person will you be in a decade? I’ve reviewed your essays, and a few of you did exceptionally well. Here, let’s have Wen Xia come up and share her essay.”

“Personally, I found your essay to be very moving.”

Hearing her name called, Wen Xia was briefly stunned before picking up her test paper and walking to the podium. Facing dozens of classmates, she felt a fleeting sense of déjà vu—like she was back in her dream of becoming a teacher.

“What kind of person will I be in ten years? I once had a dream. In the dream, I wasted the most important years of my life, choosing to live aimlessly in comfort instead of striving for my goals.”

“In the dream, I failed my college entrance exam, ended up at a third-rate university, and struggled to find a job after graduation… Ten years later, I want to be someone who has no regrets about my youth and hard work.”

Wang An led the applause, and soon the entire class was clapping. Then, he said, “There are ten minutes left before class ends, so I’ll stop lecturing and have a heart-to-heart with you.”

“Wen Xia’s dream was very realistic. I have a high school classmate who didn’t get into college. Now he works at a construction site carrying bricks.”

He chuckled lightly. “We had dinner together a few days ago, and he said, ‘If only I had studied harder in high school.’”

“Students, studying hard won’t necessarily make you rich, but it will prevent you from being at a disadvantage later in life. Don’t let your abilities be held back by the limitations of your education.”
