Chapter 71: Wen Xia’s First Love Letter

After the morning self-study session ended, Wen Xia had just taken out her pink lunchbox when Wang Yaoyao, sitting in the second row, called out to her, “Xia Xia, let’s have breakfast together.”

Pan Sen chuckled mischievously and nudged Zhao Zichuan with his shoulder. “Looks like something interesting is happening.”

Wen Xia glanced at Qin Mo and replied, “No need, I’ll eat with my cousin.”

Wang Yaoyao smiled sweetly and said, “Come join us. It’s easier to chat among girls.” As she spoke, she reached out to grab Wen Xia’s hand.

Wen Xia was at a loss for words. She opened her mouth but then closed it again—there was no way she could tell Wang Yaoyao that she and Qin Mo were a couple.

At that moment, Qin Mo extended his long arm and wrapped it around Wen Xia’s shoulders. In a calm yet possessive tone, he said, “Thanks, but no need. I’ll keep Xia Xia company.”

His voice was deep and magnetic, and Wen Xia suddenly felt her heart flutter. She touched her nose, trying to hide the smile creeping onto her face.

Later in the morning, the second period was a chemistry lab class. The chemistry teacher, He Mei, knew there was a new student in the class. After scanning the group assignment list for a few seconds, she said, “Wen Xia will join Qin Mo’s group. That way, all four groups will have two girls each. Qin Mo, as the group leader, take good care of Wen Xia.”

Zhao Zichuan and Pan Sen exchanged glances and muttered silently, “Teacher, you’ll regret this.”

Qin Mo, who usually didn’t talk much, surprised everyone by replying, “Teacher He, I’ll take good care of Xia Xia.”

He Mei didn’t notice anything unusual and smiled kindly. “The experiment we’re doing today is the preparation of ammonia gas. It involves studying the reaction principles, collection, drying, and verification processes. Based on this, you’ll explore its properties in subsequent experiments.”

“This is material from the first year of high school. Many of you might have forgotten it, so I’ll review it with you briefly…”

It was the second semester of their second year, a good time to revisit earlier concepts step by step.

After lecturing for about ten minutes, He Mei let the students start the experiment.

Qin Mo rolled up his sleeves and then looked at Wen Xia. “Do you know how to do this?”

Wen Xia had spent most of the semester and a winter break catching up on first-year material, so she was already familiar with the content. She nodded and said, “I understand the theory.”

“Give it a try,” Qin Mo encouraged.

He stepped aside to give her the spot, which was unusual—normally, Qin Mo did all the hands-on work while the other group members just observed.

Wen Xia nodded and began the experiment. Her small face was focused, and while her movements were a bit clumsy, her steps were entirely correct.

He Mei, who had been watching from the side, waited until Wen Xia finished before praising her. “Not bad, Wen Xia. Your steps were all correct.”

Receiving praise from the teacher filled Wen Xia with a sense of accomplishment, and her eyes curved into crescent moons as she smiled.

The boys in their group couldn’t help but sneak a few more glances. Wen Xia was truly beautiful, especially when she smiled.

Qin Mo’s expression darkened instantly. What are they staring at? That’s my wife.

At that moment, Wang Yaoyao’s sweet voice chimed in, “Can I give it a try?”

Hearing this, Wen Xia immediately stepped aside to make room for her.

Qin Mo, however, didn’t even look at Wang Yaoyao. Instead, he pulled Wen Xia over to sit with him in the two empty seats nearby. Wang Yaoyao froze for a moment and bit her lip.

The boys in their group glanced at the two of them. “…”

The difference in treatment was painfully obvious.

Qin Mo ignored everyone else. He handed a pen to Wen Xia, his right eye subtly lifting at the corner. “Write down the chemical equation for the experiment. If you get it right, I’ll double your reward.”

Wen Xia hesitated. “…”

Reward?

A kiss?

“I don’t want your reward,” she retorted, glaring at him. Then, with a slight huff, she took the pen and began writing out the chemical formula:

2NH4Cl + Ca(OH)2 → 2NH3↑ + CaCl2 + 2H2O

As she puffed out her cheeks, her face rounded like an apple. Qin Mo’s throat bobbed slightly as he swallowed. Lowering his voice, he murmured, “You don’t want it? But your husband wants to give it.”

His gaze swept quickly around the classroom, and before anyone could notice, he leaned in and planted a quick kiss on her cheek.

Wen Xia: “…”

The “H” on the paper now had an extra black line through it.

Then Qin Mo’s voice came again, close to her ear. “Still owe me one and a half more.”

One and a half?

Wen Xia: “…”

How could he even say something like that?

By noon, Qin Ande and Jiang Yu delivered Qin Mo’s dorm supplies. Upon hearing that Wen Xia was also studying here, they brought her two large bags of snacks and placed them between her and Qin Mo’s seats.

Previously, the two of them had barely five centimeters of space between them. Now, a full twenty centimeters separated them.

Qin Mo spent the entire afternoon in dissatisfaction. After dinner, he insisted on carrying Wen Xia’s things to the dormitory entrance. She quickly brought them inside.

After the evening self-study session, the students had forty minutes of free time. Qin Mo and Wen Xia didn’t leave the classroom right away. Instead, Qin Mo went over the day’s math problems with her.

Pan Sen initially wanted to ask Qin Mo to head back to the dorm together, but upon seeing the two of them like that, he draped an arm over Zhao Zichuan’s shoulder and walked off without a word.

Twenty-five minutes later, the classroom was empty, and Qin Mo had finished explaining the material. He put down his pen and, without warning, pulled Wen Xia into his arms. “Wife, kiss.”

Before Wen Xia could react, he kissed her directly.

A few minutes later, the classroom lights went out. Three or four minutes after that, a tall and a short figure finally emerged from the classroom.

Wen Xia made it back to her dormitory with only a minute to spare. Wang Yaoyao and the others glanced at her, their eyes eventually landing on her lips.

Her lips were swollen—noticeably so.

“Xia Xia, are your lips allergic to something?” Wang Yaoyao asked with concern.

Feeling guilty, Wen Xia touched her nose and replied, “Uh, yeah, I got bitten by a bug just now.”

After saying that, she hurriedly put down her books and went to wash up.

Friday

Wen Xia received her first love letter at No.1 Middle School. As she pulled her textbook out for class, a pink envelope fell to the floor.

At first, she didn’t realize what it was. She bent down to pick it up, but before she could reach it, a slender hand had already grabbed it.

Qin Mo looked at the pink letter, raised an eyebrow, and then opened it without hesitation.

[Wen Xia,

I’m Jin Hang from Class 7, Year 2. The first time I saw you, my heart skipped a beat. You’re like the stars in the sky, shining brightly and lighting up my heart.

Wen Xia, I like you. Can I be your boyfriend? I’m waiting for your reply.]

Qin Mo let out a dissatisfied “Hmph.”

Boyfriend? You want a reply, huh?

He tore the love letter up, pulled out the demerit notebook, wrote down Jin Hang’s name, and immediately deducted thirty points.

Wen Xia hadn’t even had the chance to read what was written, and it was already torn to pieces. She looked at him, confused. “What did it say?”

“An eyesore.”

Qin Mo picked up the demerit notebook again and said, “I’m going to hand this in now.”

The demerit notebook was turned in every week.

As school was about to end, Jin Hang was called out of the classroom by the homeroom teacher.

The homeroom teacher was furious. “Jin Hang, in just one week, your conduct points have been completely deducted, and you’ve exceeded by five points! You’re something else. You’re the only one in the whole school harassing female students. Next Monday, I’ll have your dad come in. You’ll write a self-reflection at home, and you’ll read it in front of the whole school on Monday!”

A flood of words left Jin Hang dazed. He weakly protested, “Teacher, I didn’t harass any female students!”

The teacher showed him the demerit details:

Didn’t wear the school ID ×1

Harassed female students ×10

Hair didn’t meet the standard ×1

Jin Hang: “…”

No need to think—this was all Qin Mo’s doing.
