Chapter 73: Daddy Loves You

Liu Yan was stunned for a moment, then hurriedly chased after her, but she was wearing high heels and couldn’t run well. Before long, Wen Xia had disappeared.

Wei Yongcheng ran out after her. “Ayan, stay behind. I’ll go after her. Take it slow.”

He ran for several steps but soon didn’t know where to chase. He wasn’t familiar with the area, so he shouted several times, “Xia Xia, Xia Xia…”

Suddenly, he thought of something, turned around, and ran back. “Ayan, where did Xia Xia like to go before?”

Liu Yan was stunned again, then took out her phone. “I’ll ask Wen De.”

When Wen De answered the phone, he was discussing quality control with a worker. Upon seeing the caller’s name, he stepped aside to take the call. “Hello?”

“Xia Xia is missing. Where did she usually like to go?” Liu Yan’s voice sounded urgent.

Hearing this, Wen De’s expression changed. He immediately went back to his office to grab his car keys, saying as he walked, “Check by the river or the back hill. What’s going on?”

Liu Yan explained the situation, and Wen De’s face darkened. He suddenly lost his temper. “Liu Yan, Xia Xia is just a child! I shouldn’t have agreed to let you take her back!” After saying that, he hung up.

Wen De was usually stern but rarely lost his temper, so Liu Yan was stunned for several seconds before she snapped back to reality. “Yongcheng, call Mom to search the back hill. I’ll check by the river.”

“Be careful,” Wei Yongcheng advised.

Meanwhile, Wen Xia hadn’t run very far and stopped near the village entrance. Without a phone to make a call, she couldn’t walk back home either.

But she didn’t want to return to the Liu family now.

She crouched on the ground, picking up a stick to draw, her mind flashing back to Liu Yan’s words: “Xia Xia, apologize to Xiao An.”

She still couldn’t ignore it.

At that moment, a white car drove from a distance, gradually stopping beside Wen Xia.

Qin Mo saw his wife crouching on the ground, looking pitiful. He furrowed his brow, got out of the car, and called out, “Xia Xia.”

Wen Xia looked up. Having already composed herself, she saw Qin Mo and immediately started crying, her tears falling in a steady stream. She plaintively said, “Husband, why are you here?”

Qin Mo’s heart ached. He bent down and picked her up, comforting her, “I’ll take you home.” He then placed her in the front passenger seat and fastened her seatbelt.

As he was about to sit in the driver’s seat and start the car, Wen Xia sniffed and said, “Husband, we can’t go yet. I haven’t celebrated Grandma’s birthday.”

“Hmm, did your phone break?”

Qin Mo turned his body slightly, facing her, and gently patted her head in a soothing gesture.

Wen Xia, like a child, pouted and nodded. “Liu An broke it.”

“Okay, I’ll deal with him.” Qin Mo hugged her tightly and added, “Wife, stop crying.”

After sitting in the car for a few more minutes, Qin Mo took Wen Xia near the Liu family house. “I won’t leave, I’ll stay at the village entrance. If you need anything, just call me. Don’t be afraid, I’m here.”

“Thank you, Husband.” Wen Xia’s restless heart finally calmed down. She stood on her tiptoes and kissed him before waving goodbye and heading back to the Liu family.

When Liu Yan saw her return, she sighed in relief. Her eyes were red as she said, “Xia Xia, why did you run off? What if something happened?”

Wen Xia didn’t respond. Li Xiang came over and gently wrapped her arm around Wen Xia. “Stop scolding her, Xia Xia, come, Grandma will make you some noodles.”

Wen De arrived at the Liu family’s house around 8:10 PM. His face was cold as he got out of the car. When he saw Wen Xia eating noodles in the living room, he relaxed a little.

Wen Xia also saw him and obediently called out, “Dad.”

Wen De gave a brief “hmm,” and said, “Eat quickly, I’ll take you home after you’re done.”

He then turned to Li Xiang, saying, “There’s something at school. I’ll bring Xia Xia back tomorrow.”

Wen Xia finished her noodles and got into the car with Wen De. When they reached the village entrance, Wen Xia asked Wen De to stop. “Dad, Qin Mo thought something happened to me. He came just now.”

Hearing this, Wen De pursed his lips, his tone softer than before. “Let him get in.”

“He’s already driving.”

Wen Xia got out of the car and knocked on Qin Mo’s window. After a few seconds, the car door opened. “Husband, I’m going back with Dad. You should come with us.”

Qin Mo glanced at Wen De in the car and nodded. “Okay, you go ahead. I’ll follow behind.”

The two cars drove in tandem. Thirty minutes later, they arrived at De’an Community.

After parking, Wen De looked at Qin Mo and frowned. “Minors shouldn’t be driving.”

In the county, vehicle checks weren’t very strict, especially on the roads leading to the townships.

Qin Mo obediently nodded.

Wen De and Wen Xia went inside. Wen De handed Wen Xia a glass of water. “Did you get hurt anywhere?”

Wen Xia’s nose tingled, and she suddenly felt like showing weakness in front of him. “Dad, my hand’s scraped.” She stretched out her hand for him to see.

Wen De glanced at it, pursed his lips tightly, and then took some alcohol and a cotton swab to clean her wound. He didn’t say any comforting words, simply telling her to go to the bedroom and rest.

A few minutes later, Wen Xia heard Wen De’s voice coming from his bedroom, sounding angry. She vaguely caught words like “Xia Xia” and “injured.”

Suddenly, the sense of grievance in her heart disappeared. She wasn’t alone—her dad cared for her.

Her husband cared for her too.

The next day, Wen De took her to the Liu family. He didn’t stay there, instead waiting at the village entrance. After Wen Xia finished her meal, she left. Liu Yan came to see her off, apologizing for what happened.

Throughout the entire process, Wen De didn’t show Liu Yan any warmth, taking Wen Xia away without a word. Instead of going home directly, he took her to buy a phone, the same model as before.

Wen Xia sat in the passenger seat, downloading apps on her new phone, when suddenly, she heard Wen De’s hoarse voice. “Xia Xia, I’m sorry.”

Wen Xia was stunned for a moment before looking at him. He had his lips tightly pressed together.

She shook her head seriously. “Dad, you didn’t do anything wrong. I’m the one who’s sorry. I used to argue with you all the time, thinking you didn’t care about me or love me.”

“I thought no one loved me.”

During the time when Liu Yan and Wen De were getting divorced in her previous life, Wen Xia had accidentally overheard a conversation between them. “Xia Xia will stay with you.”

She didn’t listen to what Wen De replied, nor did she dare to. In her heart, Liu Yan didn’t want her anymore, and she thought Wen De wouldn’t want her either.

That’s when she started rebelling. It was only after meeting Qin Mo that she began to feel some sense of stability and dependence.

‘I thought no one loved me.’ These words echoed in Wen De’s mind repeatedly. He abruptly stopped the car and turned off the engine.

His divorce with Liu Yan had caused his child to feel insecure.

He spoke somewhat awkwardly, “Xia Xia, Dad will always love you, no matter what, Dad will love you.”

It was Sunday afternoon, around 4 PM.

Qin Mo didn’t go to school with Wen Xia, saying he had something to take care of.

Meanwhile, in Min’an Town, at the Hualai Internet Cafe.

Qin Mo, dressed in casual black sportswear, scanned the crowd, his eyes finally landing on a boy in the middle who was intensely focused on his game. He narrowed his eyes and walked over confidently.

The game on the boy’s computer screen was at a crucial moment when it suddenly went black.

The computer was shut off.

The boy was stunned for a second before looking up at Qin Mo, cursing, “Who the hell are you? Are you crazy?”

It was Liu An.

Qin Mo raised an eyebrow with a somewhat menacing look, then grabbed Liu An by the collar, yanked him up, and spoke slowly, “Come with me.”

His height and physical strength far surpassed Liu An’s. He easily dragged him out of the Internet cafe.
