Chapter 22: Breaking the Scene!
“Li Sicong!”
The old man spoke with certainty.
Jiang Lili and Guan Yue exchanged glances, both wearing expressions of surprise and excitement.
Great! It really was Li Sicong from Class 447, Li the Sales Champion!
After getting the information about the city from the old man, Jiang Lili and Guan Yue moved a little farther from the crowd.
“The vegetables in that cart are for Sales Champion Li. Shouldn’t we help him out?”
Jiang Lili suggested, “We could use the excuse of delivering the vegetables to visit the manager of Fengdeng Restaurant.”
Guan Yue thought for a moment, then asked, “How do we get them in?”
Jiang Lili patted the basket on her back. “We’ll pack the vegetables into this basket. When we get to Fengdeng Restaurant, we can have Xiaopang deliver them for us.”
Guan Yue nodded in agreement, then added, “This is an operation against Eldest Young Master Li, so it doesn’t really concern us. But it’s always better to be cautious. We can’t let anyone spot us in Linzhou City.”
“I’ve seen in the picture books that they usually wear human skin masks for these kinds of things. Do we have anything like that?”
Cheng Jiayu, upon hearing the words “human skin mask,” was startled. He touched his sleeve, realizing he had prepared for this. However, he only had two masks, which were meant for nighttime operations.
Xin Che’s younger brother, Xin Cheng, was skilled with both traps and creating small gadgets for spying on enemy movements.
But if they took the masks out now, it would be hard to explain their origin. Plus, both masks were designed for men.
“We don’t have human skin masks,” Jiang Lili snapped her fingers. “But we have cosmetics!”
Jiang Lili had started working part-time since the summer after her high school graduation, doing all sorts of jobs. In her second year of university, she worked as an assistant to a makeup artist for a film crew.
[Jiang Lili: Xiaopang, we need your help! @Zhang Xiaopang!]
[Zhang Xiaopang: Goddess of Wealth, just give the command!]
Jiang Lili posted a list of the items she needed in the group chat and explained where to quickly buy the props.
Since Xiaopang needed time to buy the things, Jiang Lili approached the still-grumbling delivery man.
“Uncle, we can help you get these vegetables to Fengdeng Restaurant.”
“Really?” The man hesitated, clearly unsure whether he should trust this young girl wearing a conical hat and veil.
Jiang Lili smiled reassuringly. “Here’s the deal: How much do you usually get paid for delivering vegetables to Fengdeng Restaurant, and what’s the price for this cart of vegetables? We’ll pay you.”
“We’re friends of the manager of Fengdeng Restaurant. Once we meet the manager, we’ll explain everything, and you won’t have to worry about losing this job.”
The man hadn’t expected such kind people, and he quickly replied, “500 wen.”
Since the girl claimed to be a friend of the manager, he didn’t dare to make up a number and simply quoted his usual rate.
Jiang Lili nudged Guan Yue with her elbow. “Rich lady, pay up.”
Guan Yue readily handed over 500 wen to the delivery man, who took it with delight.
“Shall I unload the vegetables now?”
Jiang Lili led the man to a quieter, more secluded spot and asked him to unpack the box of vegetables.
Meanwhile, Guan Yue came up with an excuse and sent Jiayu and Tao Zhi to the city gate to check the situation.
Once the two were gone, Jiang Lili and Guan Yue prepared to temporarily store the box of vegetables with Xiaopang.
Guan Yue was a bit puzzled. “The wooden box is too large for the basket. Should we take the vegetables out, one bundle at a time, and transfer them like that?”
Jiang Lili felt that the use of these baskets shouldn’t be so rigid. She took the basket off her back and flipped it upside down on top of the wooden box.
In the next moment, the wooden box disappeared!
The basket fell to the ground.
“Whoa, amazing!”
Guan Yue exclaimed.
Jiang Lili grinned. “So, if I flip this basket upside down on my head, do you think I could travel back?”
“No, I already secretly tried it before,” Jiang Lili shrugged regretfully.
When Jiang Lili had communicated with Xiaopang earlier, she had already given him a heads-up about the situation on their side. After transferring all the vegetables to Xiaopang, he returned with the items she needed. Xiaopang sent the props over shortly after.
The four of them found a secluded spot to change.
…
Half an hour later, four burly men with large beards appeared at the city gate of Linzhou City.
Cheng Jiayu was secretly amazed by Jiang Lili’s disguise skills. It seemed that the prince’s wife was no ordinary person.
He had seen this kind of beard disguise before, but what puzzled him was how Jiang Lili and Guan Yue had suddenly grown taller and stronger. They now looked incredibly natural in their new appearance. He couldn’t help but wonder, “How is it that with something in your shoes, you two can walk so steadily?”
Jiang Lili explained to him about the height insoles and muscle suits.
Cheng Jiayu couldn’t help but marvel. “If these items were sold on the market, they would definitely cause quite a stir in the capital!”
Jiang Lili’s eyes lit up. This was indeed another big business opportunity.
The four burly men with big beards arrived in front of the city guards.
“Sir, we heard that Second Young Master Li is recruiting men to fight the bandits, and we are here to sign up.”
Although Jiang Lili and the others had changed their appearances, their voices couldn’t be altered. At this moment, Cheng Jiayu stepped forward.
He handed over some silver and said, “Sir, we hope you can help us and point us in the right direction. Where can we sign up?”
The guard took the silver, and upon hearing that they were here to support Second Young Master Li, his attitude became much friendlier. “Go to Wang Ji’s Rice Shop and ask the shopkeeper to register you.”
The four of them passed through the city gates smoothly. After they found a secluded spot, the three women removed their beards, and Jiang Lili applied classical, heavy makeup on herself and the others, according to the ancient aesthetic standards.
Then, they headed straight for Fengdeng Restaurant.
“Wow, it smells so good!”
Even before they reached Fengdeng Restaurant, the scent of hotpot wafted into their noses.
At the entrance of Fengdeng Restaurant, it was bustling. Several rows of benches were set up, and many people were sitting, waiting. But they weren’t just idly waiting—servants were offering them leaf tea and peanuts.
Guan Yue and Tao Zhi, both from this area, couldn’t help but click their tongues in admiration. “Eldest Young Master Li really knows how to do business!”
Jiang Lili was dumbfounded. “Li Sicong can’t possibly have brought over the modern concept of influencer restaurants and waiting for a seat, right?”
As soon as she finished speaking, a line of servants at the entrance chorused in unison, “Welcome to Fengdeng Restaurant~~!”
A lively servant approached them. “There are no seats available for now, but here’s your number tag. Please wait for us to call your number before you can be seated.”
Jiang Lili smiled sweetly. “Excuse me, young man, I’m here to deliver ingredients. I need to meet your Boss Li.”
The servant glanced at the heavily made-up young woman in front of him.
Recently, Eldest Young Master Li had become a well-known figure, admired by many young women in Linzhou City, and had already become the dream lover of several girls. Today was not the first time a girl had come up with an excuse to meet him.
“What about the ingredients?”
Jiang Lili scratched her head. There was no way she could just conjure a whole box of ingredients in front of everyone, and taking the box out just now made it inconvenient to transport.
She could only say, “There was an issue with the ingredients. The guards at the city gate suddenly stopped the delivery to Fengdeng Restaurant. I was going to inform Eldest Young Master Li.”
The servant still wore a polite smile, clearly refusing. “Young Master Li already knows about it. He’s thinking of a solution.”
Jiang Lili felt helpless. Now that Sales Champion Li had become so important, even getting a chance to meet him had become difficult.
Just as Jiang Lili was feeling frustrated, she overheard the customers dining inside discussing Eldest Young Master Li’s poetry.
“Who would have thought that after his recovery, Eldest Young Master Li would be so clever!”
“Eldest Young Master Li must be extraordinarily talented, and the heavens were jealous, which is why he was born a fool.”
The girls speaking looked shy as they fiddled with their handkerchiefs, discussing the talents of Eldest Young Master Li.
Suddenly, an idea came to Jiang Lili.
With her hands on her hips, she shouted at the door, “With all due respect, the poetry written by Li Sicong is garbage!”
“I could easily crush him with a poem of my own!”
