Chapter 23: Tasting the Bitter Fruit of One’s Own Deeds

Under Chaoyang’s worried gaze, Mibao followed after Old Wolf.

Looking at the carefree, heartless little Mibao, Old Wolf couldn’t help but let out a cold sneer in his heart.

For the boss’s sake, he wouldn’t kill this little thing. But playing a few tricks on her… that was no problem at all.

He hated girls from rich families the most. Even if this little brat came from a household that favored sons over daughters, she was still a rich kid.

He wasn’t well educated, and back when he was younger, he once liked a girl. She was stunning, her family well-off, but he liked her anyway. Every day, he brought her breakfast, sent her love letters, hoping his sincerity would move her.

But she never saw him as anything. After he’d sent her breakfast and dinner for a whole month, she told him outright—she was sick of him pestering her!

Damn it. In other words, she thought he was poor, looked down on him, and still wanted to take advantage of him!

She ate his breakfasts for a month for free, treating him like some kind of clown, huh?

Did she think he was some lapdog?

In his rage, he k*lled that woman on the spot. Only afterward did he realize what he’d done. Even though he’d tried to dump her body in the river and destroy the evidence, in the end, the police still found out and caught him.

What a wr*tched woman. Even dead, she had to drag him down with her.

So he loathed women from wealthy families most of all—girls included!

People like them looked down on men like him from the bone marrow out!

They deserved to die!

With a gloomy face, Old Wolf dragged Mibao toward the east side of the mall. He had already noticed a platform over there earlier. He planned to tie the little thing up with a rope and use her to fish for zombies.

Zombies would be snapping and clawing below, while this little thing dangled just within reach, inch by inch closer… and right before they touched her, he’d yank the rope back up a little.

Hahaha—wasn’t that entertaining?

He could practically imagine the little thing’s terrified screams, her face streaked with tears.

Just picturing it was enough to make Old Wolf tremble with excitement, unable to control himself.

Mibao, walking beside him, tilted her head and gave him a puzzled glance. What’s wrong with this bad uncle? Does he have some kind of illness? Why’s he shaking like that?

Forget it—it had nothing to do with her. She wasn’t about to worry about a bad guy.

Before long, the two of them reached the small platform.

Conveniently, right next to it was a fishing supplies store.

Old Wolf thought to himself, Heaven is truly helping me out.

He smashed the glass door without hesitation and pulled out a roll of sturdy nylon rope.

With it, he fashioned a loop, tying a special kind of knot. Once someone’s neck went through, a single tug would tighten it securely around them.

Old Wolf looked at Mibao standing on the platform not far away, waiting for him, and his lips curved into a sinister grin.

Step by step, he moved closer, raising the loop in his hand, ready to slip it over Mibao.

But just as he got within half a meter of her, somehow, his foot slipped out from under him, and he crashed to the ground with a solid thud!

Bang!

The sound startled Mibao. She turned her head and saw Old Wolf sprawled flat on the ground beside her.

So she asked in confusion, “Uncle Wolf, are you sleepy? But isn’t it too cold to take a nap here?”

Old Wolf: “…”

‘What’s wrong with this little brat’s brain? Do I look like I’m sleeping right now?!’

Grinding his teeth, Old Wolf shot Mibao a venomous glare, then started to push himself up.

But the moment he lifted his upper body, his foot slipped again, and down he went, face-first onto the floor.

Old Wolf: “…”

‘What the hell? Is this damn place really that slippery?’

“What are you standing there for? Help me up!” Old Wolf roared at Mibao. “Can’t you see what’s going on?!”

Mibao was stunned by his shouting, but still, out of her good habit of wanting to help others, she stepped forward and grabbed Old Wolf’s arm.

“Ow…”

She used all the strength her little body could muster, but she was far too young—her skinny arms and legs together weren’t even as thick as Old Wolf’s arm. How could she possibly pull him up?

Old Wolf: “…”

Old Wolf snarled, “Get out of the way, I’ll do it myself.”

With that tiny bit of strength, he’d be grateful if she didn’t drag him down instead!

“Oh… okay then.”

Mibao obediently backed away, but she couldn’t help muttering to herself, “Uncle Wolf is so rude, I definitely can’t learn from him.”

Old Wolf: “…”

Does this little brat really think she’s speaking softly?

He couldn’t stop himself from rolling his eyes, then gritted his teeth and tried again to get up. After falling flat again and again, he finally managed to struggle to his feet.

“Damn it, what a crappy floor!” he cursed.

Mibao’s eyes went wide at the bad word. She quickly raised her little hands to cover her ears, then started chanting under her breath:

“Not listening to bad words, not listening, not listening, not listening to the turtle chanting scriptures…”

Old Wolf: “…”

‘Wait—was she cursing me just now?’

“You little brat, who the hell are you calling a turtle?!” Old Wolf exploded. “Get over here!”

But Mibao still had her ears covered and was muttering away, so she didn’t hear a single word he said.

Old Wolf nearly choked on his own fury, but in the end he took a deep breath, grabbed the rope, and stormed toward Mibao.

‘This little thing dares to insult me? Just wait till I string her up and—ahhh!’

Before he got halfway there, he slipped and fell flat on the ground again.

Old Wolf: “…”

‘No, seriously—what the hell is going on today?’

‘Are the soles of my feet really that slippery?’

Because of the loud thud, Mibao paused her muttering. She lowered her hands and looked at him.

“Uncle Wolf, are you sleepy again?”

Old Wolf: “…Are you doing this on purpose, damn it?”

Was she mocking him?

She was definitely mocking him!

Fuming, Old Wolf started clawing his way up, cursing under his breath as he crawled, and crawling as he cursed, inching his way toward Mibao.

There was nothing else he could do—the floor was far too slick, and he simply couldn’t stand up.

Startled, Mibao kept backing away as Old Wolf crawled closer and closer.

Soon, he had crawled right to the edge of the platform.

“I’ll teach you to mock me!”

Snarling, Old Wolf lay flat on the ground and swung the rope loop out, trying to catch Mibao and toss her down.

Mibao’s eyes went wide, and she let out a shriek. Then she clapped her hands over her ears, squeezed her eyes shut, and crouched down.

Because of that, she didn’t see what happened next: the rope was blown back by the wind and looped right around Old Wolf himself.

And just his luck—he’d thrown it too hard in his excitement, plus the slick ground under him gave way, and his whole body slid straight to the edge of the platform, half of him dangling outside.

Old Wolf instantly turned pale with terror, trembling all over, even his lips white.

“You… you, hurry up and pull me back up!”

His voice was barely louder than a whisper.

Damn it, why did things turn out like this?

This isn’t right!

But Mibao, still covering her ears and shivering, didn’t hear a word he said.

Old Wolf: “…”

‘For f*ck’s sake, is this little brat descended from the deaf or something?!’

‘Why the hell won’t she just put her hands down?!’

‘Why’s she still covering her ears?!’
