Chapter 166: ‘Who knew there was such a childish way to preach faith in a god?’
Good news: Gong Cheng had been successfully put back together, and the Faith Chain was still functioning. This Moon Silk Star prophet was now unquestionably Cheng Qisheng’s newest believer.
Bad news: This new believer was a little crazy.
Cheng Qisheng watched as Gong Cheng, who had just woken up, immediately went berserk. His face was filled with fanaticism as he ran wildly around the room, trying to crawl over to the window and kneel before the statue of the Blue Sea Creator God.
Her expression was rather indescribable.
She didn’t mind someone kneeling before her statue. She was used to that sort of thing by now.
The problem was that Gong Cheng was standing on the windowsill. With one swift motion, he dropped to his knees, nearly rolling straight out of the window.
And Cheng Qisheng could swear that when Gong Cheng was about to tumble out of the building, he wasn’t frightened in the slightest. Instead, there was even a kind of transcendent serenity about him.
It was the sort of wholehearted acceptance that said, “With my God above me, everything is the guidance of my God. If I truly roll out of this window, then that too must be my God’s blessing.”
Cheng Qisheng: “……”
Old Eighth occasionally had similar thoughts.
But Old Eighth only developed that mindset after getting injured. It was basically how he had learned not to torment himself with unnecessary worries.
Gong Cheng, on the other hand, was simply trying to get himself killed.
Fortunately, Gong Cheng’s butler, Xie Wuke, was right beside him. He swiftly reached out and hauled him back.
If not for seeing how quick and practiced this loyal butler was at catching him, the great Blue Sea Creator God might have wondered whether she’d somehow failed to properly connect one of Gong Cheng’s memory interfaces when putting him back together and accidentally stitched him into madness.
—After all, according to Gong Cheng’s memories of his own self-perception, he’d always seemed perfectly normal.
Even now, however, Cheng Qisheng could sense through the Faith Chain that despite nearly falling out of the window, Gong Cheng still thought he was completely normal.
Cheng Qisheng checked through his memories one more time. After confirming that there were no gaps or errors, she had no choice but to admit that this new believer simply had this kind of personality.
For starters, he was the son of the Lord of Nightgreen Oasis. He had grown up in considerable comfort and privilege, and he’d even had a butler who had been trained specifically to serve him since childhood.
Growing up in an environment like that, Gong Cheng naturally had no need for emotional intelligence.
Moreover, Gong Cheng’s supernatural ability had awakened when he was five years old.
During his very first awakening, he glimpsed the scene of his mother’s death. After that, every single time he used his precognition, all he saw was the person he was foreseeing dying in the Great Annihilation.
Under circumstances like that, the fact that he hadn’t actually gone insane could already be considered a testament to his formidable mental resilience.
And Gong Cheng, who was apparently in a “perfectly healthy mental state,” had been expanding the Faith Chain ever since he woke up. The chain had already been quite substantial to begin with, but it was growing larger every minute.
By now, it couldn’t even be described as merely robust. It was so massive that it looked like it could support an entire building.
Cheng Qisheng wasn’t sure whether Gong Cheng’s condition had something to do with the fact that his “fragments” had been pieced back together using her own mental power.
Gong Cheng’s performance after waking up had prompted the temple to urgently add a whole pile of neurological examinations to his medical workup, while his butler, Xie Wuke, had switched into full-time, never-leave-his-side mode.
Meanwhile, the great Blue Sea Creator God was desperately trying to remember whether she’d accidentally brainwashed the guy.
But Gong Cheng himself felt absolutely fantastic.
His unwavering Faith Chain allowed him to smoothly integrate into Blue Sea. As a believer, he learned the city’s true identity. He learned that all the people of Blue Sea were likewise believers of the great God. He also learned that Blue Sea was currently disguised as [Ota] and was planning to attack [Company].
Gong Cheng not only accepted all of this instantly, he was positively enthusiastic about offering suggestions.
“My mother is the Lord of Nightgreen Oasis. [Ota] could take Nightgreen Oasis first. That would give us even greater strength to face [Company].”
“Although my mother definitely won’t listen to me and simply hand over her territory, that’s fine. I know all of Nightgreen Oasis’s military deployments, as well as all the routes in and out. I’ll memorize everything. We can use that information to launch our attack. My mother will definitely be caught completely off guard.”
Even the divine official sitting across from him couldn’t help glancing at him several times.
‘What filial devotion.’
Gong Cheng genuinely believed that he was being a very filial son.
Ever since childhood, he had known that the world would be destroyed. He had thought of countless ways to try to prevent it, but none of them had worked.
He had searched for a place where he could escape the world’s catastrophe. Yet no matter where he went or whom he saw, every prophecy he witnessed always ended in that absolute darkness.
And now, the gods had lowered their gaze.
This was his one and only chance.
Gong Cheng had been given that chance.
He wanted his family, and the people he cared about, to have this opportunity to escape as well.
And based on what he knew about his mother, she would never listen to something like, “The apocalypse is coming. We have to rely on the gods if we want to survive.” If he wanted her to submit to Blue Sea, there was only one way:
—Beat her into submission.
Gong Cheng actually hoped that Blue Sea would immediately conquer Nightgreen Oasis, terrified that the people there might miss this opportunity.
Although Blue Sea had its own plans and clearly wasn’t going to listen to him, he still memorized every detail of Nightgreen Oasis’s military deployments. Some of them were things Gong Cheng already knew, while others had been revealed to him through the countless visions he’d had throughout his life.
After completing the full set of neurological examinations, he impatiently demanded to go and pay his respects beneath the statue of the great Blue Sea Creator God.
His main purpose in going there wasn’t actually because of his own faith.
Gong Cheng was already a believer of the great Blue Sea Creator God. Even without standing before the statue, he believed that there was already a vague image of the great Creator God within his heart, and he could worship there perfectly well in his mind.
The reason he wanted to go beneath the statue was because his butler, Xie Wuke, was also one of the “people he cared about.”
And Xie Wuke was currently right beside him.
Gong Cheng planned to bring Xie Wuke to worship the statue, so that his loyal butler and companion could experience the same happiness he had received and become a believer of the great Blue Sea Creator God as well.
—
Lu Song had come to the temple to worship the statue again.
This was basically part of his daily routine. From Monday to Friday, he came once every morning.
On Saturdays and Sundays, he changed it to once in the morning and once in the evening.
Although coming every day hadn’t helped him become a believer, visiting the statue each day and taking a look at it still gave him a little peace of mind.
Besides, this was also Lu Song’s little trick for reassuring himself.
This was the temple in the Inner City. The fact that, as a non-believer, he was still allowed to enter and worship here proved that Blue Sea recognized him.
He was already very familiar with the routine. Lu Song knelt on the cushion, placed his right hand over the left side of his chest, closed his eyes, and began to pray devoutly.
“Most Holy, Most High, Most Glorious—”
“Like light, like wind, like clouds—”
“Great Lord of the Star Sea—”
“Supreme Creator God—”
After finishing his usual prayer, Lu Song suddenly opened his eyes and turned to look behind him.
He had heard unfamiliar voices.
That was unusual. With so many Blue Sea residents currently away from the city, Lu Song had been coming here every day, and even when he didn’t know the residents personally, he’d become familiar with their voices simply from hearing them so often.
These two voices, however, had never appeared before.
The divine official reading a book with her head lowered to the right of the statue noticed Lu Song’s wariness. She opened her eyes slightly and said with a gentle smile,
“Don’t worry. They’re Gong Cheng, a newly arrived resident of Blue Sea, and his friend, Xie Wuke.”
Oh!
Lu Song understood.
He had special authorization to access certain records, which allowed him to view some information that was normally available only to residents of Blue Sea’s Inner City.
The names of these two people had appeared among the newly added information recently.
Gong Cheng was a prophet. It seemed he had already joined Blue Sea.
This reassured Lu Song. The addition of a supernatural being with precognitive abilities would undoubtedly make Blue Sea stronger.
He stopped paying attention to them and lowered his head again, silently reciting his prayers.
But the two happened to walk right past him, and their quiet conversation carried clearly into Lu Song’s ears.
Gong Cheng: “Wuke, do you believe me?”
“Mm…”
“Good. You don’t believe me, and that’s fine. But tell me, aren’t you my butler? Aren’t you supposed to listen to me?”
This time, Xie Wuke didn’t hesitate.
“I am.”
Gong Cheng: “Then I’m telling you this as your master: I order you to believe in the great Creator God just as I do. You must treat the great God as the most important existence in the world. You must obey the great God the same way you obey me.”
Xie Wuke: “The same way I obey you?”
Gong Cheng thought about it.
“No. It has to be more important than obeying me. Understand?”
Xie Wuke hesitated.
Ever since he was little, he’d known that he was Gong Cheng’s butler. Gong Cheng was the most important person, and he was supposed to obey Gong Cheng’s orders.
But now Gong Cheng was telling him to obey a statue of a god…
Xie Wuke was rather rigid-minded. He couldn’t quite wrap his head around it for a moment. He carefully examined Gong Cheng’s condition and realized that he was perfectly calm and wasn’t having another episode of madness.
In the end, he nodded.
“All right.”
Lu Song’s hearing was exceptionally sharp, so he’d heard the entire conversation. The corner of his mouth twitched.
‘Well, live long enough and you’ll see everything.’
‘Who knew there was such a childish way to preach faith in a god?’
Surely you were supposed to start by bringing out the Holy Scripture and telling them about everything the great God had done. Then you would show them around Blue Sea and explain—
Lu Song had memorized all kinds of methods for spreading the faith by heart. He was silently reciting the entire process to himself with a faint sense of pride when he suddenly heard the divine official announce:
“Resident Xie Wuke, you have become a believer of our God. Welcome back to Blue Sea.”
Lu Song: “???”
Lu Song: “???”
He abruptly opened his eyes and stared at the scene beside him in disbelief.
Sure enough, the divine official was holding that familiar crystal sphere. One of Xie Wuke’s hands was resting on it, and the sphere was already glowing with a soft white light, proving that the new resident had become a believer.
Beside him, Gong Cheng was patting Xie Wuke on the shoulder with a satisfied smile.
Lu Song: “……”
His entire being was on the verge of falling apart.
Gong Cheng was happily celebrating Xie Wuke’s becoming a believer when he suddenly sensed someone staring intently at him.
He turned his head and saw Lu Song’s face.
Countless images suddenly flashed before his eyes. Gong Cheng clutched his forehead and couldn’t help crying out in pain.
The divine official and Xie Wuke hurriedly caught him.
“What happened?”
Gong Cheng shook his head and gritted his teeth.
“Precognition…”
His precognition had always been a passive ability. He had no complete control over whom he foresaw or what he saw.
Normally, Gong Cheng wouldn’t tell anyone what he’d seen in a vision.
Because people would only think he was crazy.
But things were different now.
He had joined Blue Sea, and everyone here was a believer of his God.
They would believe him.
Thinking this, Gong Cheng looked toward Lu Song.
“I saw your future.”
“You will become a believer of our God.”
Lu Song was still a little bewildered. His brain hadn’t even had time to process those words before the corners of his mouth had already begun to rise.
“I—I succeeded? I’m going to become a believer of our God?”
Gong Cheng nodded seriously.
“Yes. I saw it.”
Lu Song practically wanted to bow down to him on the spot.
“Thank you, thank you! I really can’t thank you enough!! Do you know exactly when it will happen?”
Gong Cheng thought for a moment. He now knew that Blue Sea would travel to various apocalyptic worlds.
“First of all, it won’t be during the Great Annihilation. I’m not entirely sure about the timing either. How about I tell you roughly what the surroundings looked like in the vision? Once the environment around you starts looking similar to what I saw, that should be when it happens.”
Lu Song stared at him with an expectant expression, practically straining his ears to listen.
Even Cheng Qisheng was curious enough to send over an [Eye] to listen in.
The prophet Gong Cheng began to chant:
“When the mountains and rivers are shattered.”
“When the earth collapses.”
“When the oceans run dry.”
“When the sun and moon fall.”
“When heaven and earth crumble.”
“At that time, your wish will come true, and you will become a believer of our God.”
I knew it!!! Lu song will first experience what he fears the most before becoming a believer. Seriously Dude, you should realized by now that Blue Sea can’t preach properly. They didn’t have a concept of heretics and faithless until some time ago. Heck, they have been scratching their heads, unable to figure out which process was effective and why it doesn’t work for others.
