Chapter 407 – Meeting Lu Qiu Again

After discussing the matter, Lu Xia realized that it was already mid-August, and she could see that school would start in just over ten days.

So she asked, “Have Grandpa and the others said when they will return?”

“Probably at the end of August,” Jiang Junmo thought for a moment and said, “They should come back before Kang Kang starts school.”

Lu Xia nodded, “Then when should we move back? And if we do, what about the things here? Everything else is fine, but we have to feed the chickens and fish every day!”

Jiang Junmo hesitated after hearing this, “How about we don’t move back? Just stay here?”

The life they had during this period made him cherish it a lot. Thinking about going back, Lu Xia would become cautious again not to let him get close, and that made him hesitate.

Lu Xia also had her doubts. She liked the free life in the small courtyard. “But what about Kang Kang if we don’t go back?”

It was only then that Jiang Junmo remembered they had a son and suggested, “How about letting him live in the main courtyard by himself?”

He thought more about it as he spoke, “He’s not that young anymore. He’s about to turn four, and it’s time for him to live on his own.”

Lu Xia was speechless, “Kang Kang is only three and a half years old. How is that not young? We already spend less time with him due to school, and we can’t always rely on Grandpa to take care of him. Grandpa is getting old too.”

Jiang Junmo could only agree after hearing this, “Alright, let’s wait until before school starts to move back then.”

Lu Xia nodded, “Okay, let’s wait. We won’t have to move much stuff, and we won’t need to tidy up much.”

“Alright.”

Although Jiang Junmo agreed, he still felt somewhat wronged. He felt that since they had a son, Lu Xia had put him in the background. So before bed, he started to pester her again.

After several rounds of intimate moments between husband and wife, even until Lu Xia’s voice became hoarse, and she promised to prioritize him in the future, he finally let her go.

Before Grandpa Jiang and Kang Kang returned, Lu Xia completed her translation task. Since Jiang Junmo didn’t have much to do recently, they decided to go to the department store to see if there was anything they needed before school started.

As soon as they arrived at the department store, they heard a voice as they went up the stairs.

“Second sister, what a coincidence, we meet again!”

It was Lu Qiu again. She happened to be coming down the stairs, and the two of them met face to face across a few steps.

She seemed very happy to see Lu Xia and, after greeting her, looked at Jiang Junmo beside her. She cast a quick glance at him and greeted him warmly, “Is this your husband? Hello, I’m Lu Qiu.”

Lu Xia instinctively furrowed her brow when she saw her and didn’t want to interact with her much, so she nodded and tried to leave.

As for Jiang Junmo, he had known about her family’s situation for a while, so he also nodded without saying anything.

But Lu Qiu directly approached them with the person beside her.

It was only then that Lu Xia noticed she wasn’t alone; there was a man standing beside her. He looked somewhat frail, not very tall, and had an ordinary appearance.

Then Lu Qiu introduced him, “Second sister, this is my fiancé, Jiang Liang. We’re getting married next month. Can you come to my wedding then?”

Lu Xia was a bit surprised to hear that they were getting married so soon, but she didn’t inquire further. She simply shook her head and declined, “No, I’m busy next month. I wish you a happy wedding. I have to go now.”

Lu Qiu seemed disappointed but probably expected this outcome. She smiled and said, “Okay, I won’t bother you then. By the way, our parents have heard that you’ve returned to the city, so they’ll probably come to find you later.”

.

Upon hearing these words, Lu Xia instinctively furrowed her brow. “How did they find out?”

Lu Qiu quickly shook her head, “It wasn’t me who told them. They heard it from an educated youth who returned to the city. He was a fellow educated youth who went to the countryside in the same county as second sister. He mentioned that someone named Lu Xia from their county had been admitted to Peking University.

Our parents heard about it and inquired, confirming that it was indeed you. However, they don’t know where you live now and were thinking of going to Peking University to find you after the school starts.”

Lu Xia frowned upon hearing this, clearly troubled by the situation. However, she also knew that there was no immediate solution.

She nodded to Lu Qiu and said, “I see. Thank you for letting me know.”

Then she didn’t say much more and left with Jiang Junmo.

As Lu Qiu remained in place, she sighed, realizing that her sister might be completely cutting ties with their family.

“Your sister is so impressive, being a student at Peking University!” Jiang Liang, who had been silent until now, watched Lu Xia’s receding figure and admired her.

Lu Qiu chuckled upon hearing this. “Yes, she is. But no matter how impressive she is, it has nothing to do with our family. You know our family’s situation. My sister went through a lot of hardship when she was young. My parents are now reaping where they didn’t sow. They only want to find her when she’s successful, without considering why she should care about them.”

Jiang Liang clearly knew the nature of Mr. and Mrs. Lu, so he reassured her, saying, “Don’t worry, I’ll treat you well in the future, and my parents will like you too.”

Lu Qiu smiled upon hearing this. She just saw that he was good to her, so she ignored her parents’ objections and got engaged to him, who seemed to be inferior to her in everything. She had the confidence to keep him in check and not end up like Lu Chun, who had married someone she had to constantly cater to and be controlled by her in-laws.

However, Lu Xia was unaware of Lu Qiu’s thoughts.

After learning about the Lu family’s situation, she wasn’t in the mood for shopping.

So she and Jiang Junmo went straight home.

But even after returning home, Lu Xia’s mood wasn’t great.

She had thought that since the Lu family had severed ties with her, they wouldn’t bother her anymore.

But those people still had plans to interfere.

She wasn’t afraid, but she was annoyed. Moreover, they planned to visit her at school, which made her feel disgusted even thinking about it.

Seeing her like this, Jiang Junmo knew what was on her mind. So he thought for a moment and said, “Don’t worry, if you don’t want to see them, leave it to me to handle.”

Lu Xia was surprised by his words. “What do you plan to do?”

Jiang Junmo comforted her with a smile. “Everyone has a weak spot. As long as we grasp their weakness, they’ll obediently do as we say.”

Lu Xia pondered his words. “The Lu family cares most about their jobs. Are you suggesting we start from there? Are you planning to ask Uncle Lu for help?”

Jiang Junmo shook his head. “We don’t need to bother Uncle Lu with such a small matter. Trust me; I’ll take care of it.”

Hearing his assurance, Lu Xia felt relieved and entrusted this matter to him.

Then, not even two days later, Father Lu was suspended from his job because he had been caught sleeping during his night shift when a supervisor unexpectedly checked. This incident was considered negligence of duty.

Father Lu was terrified and tried to explain and plead, but it was of no use. In the end, he could only return home.

Upon returning home, he learned that his son, Lu Dong, had been caught slacking off while moving goods and had been suspended as well. This happened when their team leader happened to see him and the supervisor arrived at the factory at just the right time. The factory was currently cracking down on a lax work ethic, and he was caught red-handed.
