Chapter 637 – Cousin’s Family Returns

After the company went on vacation, there were only a few days left until the Chinese New Year.

Elder cousin’s family had not yet returned, but Qi Xiao came back first.

Throughout the year, Qi Xiao had been developing in the south, and only during the Chinese New Year did he have the opportunity to come back.

This time when they met, he looked quite good. At least Lu Xia noticed that he was increasingly resembling a boss.

Dressed in a suit and polished shoes, not only that, he also drove a car. At a glance, it was clear he had made it big. He even carried a briefcase, resembling a nouveau riche.

“Oh! Boss Qi is back? Where did you strike it rich?”

Qi Xiao heard her teasing and laughed, shaking his head. “Sister-in-law, you’re too much. I worked hard outside all year so you all could make money. After coming back, you don’t even care about me?”

Lu Xia laughed at that. “Alright, I’ll care about you. How was the company this year? Didn’t make a loss, did you?”

“I knew you’re most concerned about money!” Qi Xiao, upon hearing this, pretended to be disappointed, sighing and clutching his chest with his right hand, looking like he was hurt.

Seeing this, Jiang Junmo kicked him angrily. “Be honest and stop fooling around!”

Qi Xiao then returned to normal and shared his experiences of the past year, mostly complaining about how busy he was.

Lu Xia was interested in his car.

His car was a Santana, a luxury car in this era.

“When did you buy this car? How much did it cost?”

Hearing her ask, Qi Xiao became interested. “I bought it a while ago. You all don’t know. People in the south pay special attention to their image. I, as a boss, can’t be without a car. So I gritted my teeth and bought it, extremely expensive, close to 200,000 for this car! How about it? Sister-in-law, do you want to buy one too?”

Lu Xia was shocked by this. It was too expensive!

She quickly shook her head. “No, I can’t afford it!”

Cars have a high rate of obsolescence. Even though she had money, she didn’t want to waste it on that. It would be better to invest in buying a house and become a landlord; the returns would be higher.

Qi Xiao didn’t say much after hearing her thoughts. He knew she could afford it; it was just a matter of being reluctant to spend money.

This mindset was normal; after all, not everyone was willing to spend such a large amount of money just on a car.

Later, they chatted for a while, and Qi Xiao had something to do, so they agreed to meet again after the New Year and he left.

The next day, the elder cousin and his wife finally returned.

Lu Xia met her cousin Jiang Chengcun and cousin-in-law Lu Fangyi for the first time.

The elder cousin was very tall, perhaps because of his military background, he looked quite serious.

As for the cousin-in-law, she wasn’t short either, and she had a very elegant demeanor, but she seemed a bit aloof and not very talkative.

As for their daughter, she was now one and a half years old and could already speak. She looked adorable when carried by Uncle Jiang.

Her name was Jiang Ning. The cousin-in-law chose this name. Originally, Grandpa Jiang and Uncle Jiang had suggested several names when she was born, but for some reason, none of them were used. Instead, they settled on the name Jiang Ning.

Grandpa Jiang was a bit disappointed when he found out, but the name sounded good, so he accepted it.

After the family reunion, they chatted for a while, and Lu Xia greeted her cousin and cousin-in-law, whom she was meeting for the first time.

In the evening, they had a reunion dinner together. The elder cousin and his family had a tiring journey by car, so they went to rest first.

The next day, when Lu Xia woke up, she saw Jiang Junmo and her cousin coming back from outside, both with smiles on their faces, looking very happy.

Her cousin didn’t maintain the seriousness he had before when he saw her. He said to her solemnly, “Younger sister, thank you for taking care of Junmo all these years.”

Lu Xia smiled and replied, “Cousin, you’re too kind. We take care of each other.”

After hearing this, Jiang Chengcun became more gentle towards her. Afterward, he went upstairs to see his wife and child.

Chapter 638 – Cousin-in-law

.

Not long after, they came downstairs holding the child. Aunt Jiang saw that the child seemed to have cried and felt very distressed.

“Why is Ning Ning crying? Is she not used to being back home?”

Cousin-in-law looked embarrassed upon hearing this, and the cousin explained, “It’s okay, Mom, she might be hungry.”

“Oh my, then let’s feed her quickly. The rice porridge is ready for her. Can she eat now? If not, there’s formula.”

“She can eat. I’ll feed her in a bit.”

At this moment, three little kids who had gone out to play early in the morning with their older brother came back.

As soon as they came in, they saw the child in Jiang Chengcun’s arms.

Zhen Zhen had known that a little sister would be coming home, and now she was very curious.

She went over and asked, “Uncle, can I take the little sister out to play?”

Before Jiang Chengcun could respond, Lu Fangyi, who was beside, chimed in, “No, Ning Ning is still too young. She can’t bear the cold of the capital!”

After speaking, perhaps realizing her tone was a bit harsh, she explained further, “When she’s a little older, you can play with her.”

Zhen Zhen felt a bit disappointed after hearing this but still said, “Alright, then I’ll wait for my little sister to grow up!”

The others frowned slightly upon hearing this, but didn’t say anything.

After breakfast, Lu Xia planned to go shopping for New Year’s goods with Aunt Wang. Seeing that her cousin-in-law was alone at home, she invited her to come along.

Lu Fangyi declined, shaking her head. “No, I have to look after the child. I won’t go.”

Lu Xia had intended to suggest that she could ask Aunt Sun to help look after the child, but seeing her reluctance, she didn’t say anything.

Later, when she returned from shopping, she saw Ning Ning crying again.

Her cousin-in-law was there, looking after the child with a stern expression.

An’an and the other two were standing in a corner as punishment.

Lu Xia, puzzled, asked, “What’s going on? Did An’an and the others bully Ning Ning?”

Jiang Junmo shook his head and glanced at the kids standing there looking wronged, explaining, “They wanted to take Ning Ning to see the puppies, but Ning Ning got scared when the dog barked!”

Lu Xia fell silent for a moment and then asked, “Did you reprimand them?”

Jiang Junmo nodded. “I did, and I made them stand there as punishment.”

The elder cousin interjected, waving his hand, “It’s not necessary. It’s not their fault; it’s just that Ning Ning is very timid. She hasn’t been out much and hasn’t seen dogs before.”

Grandpa Jiang, nearby, added, “Being so timid isn’t good. When An’an and the others were her age, they were running around the yard.”

Jiang Chengcun sighed at this; he had discussed this issue before. However, Lu Fangyi was always afraid of the child getting hurt, keeping her at home and arranging for someone to take care of her. This made Ning Ning increasingly timid.

At this moment, he didn’t explain further and simply said he would pay more attention in the future.

On the other side, when Ning Ning was finally calmed and put to bed by her cousin-in-law, Lu Xia apologized to her.

Even though her cousin-in-law was cold, she didn’t blame her. Lu Xia breathed a sigh of relief.

Soon, it was New Year’s Eve.

Perhaps because the elder cousin and his family were back, Uncle and Aunt didn’t have to be on duty, making the house particularly crowded. Combined with several chatty children, the house was unusually lively.

The younger ones would run outside to put up couplets, then want to set off firecrackers, and they were quite restless.

However, as soon as the firecrackers were lit, Ning Ning, inside the house, heard them and got scared, bursting into tears.

Cousin-in-law hurriedly went to comfort her.

Lu Xia noticed Grandpa Jiang furrowing his brow and wanted to say something but decided against it. It was New Year’s, so everyone tried to act like they hadn’t seen anything.

  1. This Lu Fangyi is too much of a helicopter mom, which is detrimental to children’s development. She really needs to lay off a bit and let her child grow up more normally or she won’t be able to survive in society by herself when she gets older.

    Thanks for the chapter! 😀
