Chapter 241 – Chen Li Awakens

Wei Chen, who had isolated himself in a frenzied world, was startled back to reality by Housekeeper Zhang’s words. He released Xu Ruru abruptly, as if shocked, and hurried back to the bedside. However, Chen Li was still asleep. It was at that moment his brow gradually relaxed, leaving only traces of tears in the corners of his eyes.

Wei Chen squatted down, quietly observing Chen Li, refraining from any movement.

Xu Ruru, thanks to Wei Chen’s departure, was saved but collapsed on the ground, clutching her throat as if burnt, unable to control her coughing.

Wei Yan, with an unpleasant expression, went forward to assist Xu Ruru, helping her leave. It wasn’t out of concern for Xu Ruru; he understood that it was best for her not to stay in that place at that moment.

While Wei Chen seemed better now, no one knew if another episode would occur. The current Wei Chen was beyond anyone’s control.

Grandfather Wei felt utterly powerless, transferring all his strength to Housekeeper Zhang, asking for support to leave the room.

When they planned this method with Xu Ruru, they hadn’t anticipated this outcome. They hadn’t expected Wei Chen to spiral into madness due to Chen Li being hypnotized.

However, it was too late for regrets. Xu Ruru couldn’t appear in front of Wei Chen anymore. Forget Wei Chen who didn’t want to see Xu Ruru, Xu Ruru herself had developed a psychological trauma because of Wei Chen’s behavior.

Assisted by Wei Yan, Xu Ruru left Wei Chen’s room. Wei Yan called for an ambulance. While waiting for it, he glanced at Xu Ruru’s pale face and said, “I thought you were a smart person.”

Xu Ruru kept her head down, her burning throat making it impossible for her to speak.

“But now, you seem foolish, pitifully foolish,” Wei Yan’s expression was cold. “Doing something like this for someone who doesn’t even like you? Do you think it’s worth it?”

Xu Ruru still remained silent, but tears fell from her eyes, one by one.

When she suffered the heavy blow to her head, she didn’t cry. Even when Wei Chen choked her, she didn’t cry when facing death for the first time. However, now, because of Wei Yan’s simple words, her tears flowed uncontrollably.

She had never imagined she’d bid farewell to the love buried in her heart for over a decade in such a tragic manner.

Seeing Xu Ruru cry, Wei Yan didn’t offer her a tissue. It’s not that he lacked sympathy; Xu Ruru’s current situation was entirely of her own making.

The ambulance arrived quickly and took Xu Ruru away. Wei Yan didn’t accompany her but instead took Xu Ruru’s phone, contacted her friends in Shanghai, and then returned to the Wei family.

He felt concerned about the condition of Chen Li and Wei Chen and felt the need to check on them.

In Wei Chen’s room, he remained in his previous stance, motionless, his gaze fixed on Chen Li, but he didn’t dare to touch him.

Chen Li lay on the bed, looking peaceful, as if asleep, yet no one knew what kind of world he was experiencing at that moment.

Standing beside Wei Chen, Wei Yan said, “I know there’s a renowned psychologist internationally, with exceptional capabilities in resolving psychological issues. Maybe we could get this doctor to come and check on Chen Li, given the hypnosis situation.”

At the mention of Chen Li, Wei Chen finally showed a bit of reaction. He urgently raised his head to look at Wei Yan, his voice hoarse, “Where is this doctor? Can we contact him?”

“The psychologist’s name is Mr. Reinhert. I met him during my travels in the United States, but I didn’t keep his contact information,” regret tinged Wei Yan’s tone. Had he known about today, he would have made sure to get Mr. Reinert’s phone number, offering a glimmer of hope, regardless of whether Mr. Reinert accepted the case.

Now, it was impossible for Xu Ruru to help undo Chen Li’s hypnosis. Who knows if Xu Ruru had ulterior motives? What if attempting to solve it worsened the situation?

“We must reach him, no matter the cost!” Wei Chen insisted firmly.

“Mr. Reinert and the president of the Ci’en Hospital were former schoolmates. Perhaps the president might be able to contact him. The issue now is how to get in touch with the president of Ci’en Hospital,” Wei Yan suggested another method, furrowing his brow.

Ci’en Hospital’s president?

Wei Chen’s mind immediately started working. He quickly remembered that Lan Xiping’s mentor seemed to be the president of the Ci’en Hospital.

“I have a way.” Wei Chen found Chen Li’s phone and swiftly located Lan Xiping’s number. Regardless of the late hour, he called.

Lan Xiping was already asleep. Hearing his phone ring and seeing the caller ID displaying Chen Li, Lan Xiping immediately answered, “Xiao Li?”

“Lan Xiping, it’s me, Li Li’s partner,” Wei Chen said.

“Mr. Wei? Has something happened to Xiao Li?” Lan Xiping sensed the tremor in Wei Chen’s tone and asked anxiously.

“I’d like to ask your mentor for help in contacting Mr. Reinhert. Li Li has been hypnotized by someone,” Wei Chen succinctly explained.

Lan Xiping’s mood instantly turned heavy. “I’ll do it.”

Afterward, they ended the call. Lan Xiping couldn’t sleep anymore and got up from the bed.

Jiang Ye, who was a light sleeper, had already woken up when Lan Xiping’s phone rang. Seeing Lan Xiping getting up, Jiang Ye also rose, walking to the balcony and standing beside Lan Xiping.

“Did I wake you?” Lan Xiping held his phone and turned to Jiang Ye, a hint of concern in his expression.

“It’s fine,” Jiang Ye shook his head. “Is something wrong?”

“Xiao Li was hypnotized by someone, and Mr. Wei asked me to contact Mr. Reinhert for help,” Lan Xiping explained.

“Do you know Mr. Reinhert?” Jiang Ye asked.

Lan Xiping nodded, “I’ve met Mr. Reinhert once, recommended by my mentor. I’ve already sent a message to my mentor, and if he’s not asleep, he’ll call me.”

As Lan Xiping finished speaking, the phone in his hand rang, indeed from the president of the Ci’en Hospital.

“Xiping, it’s late. Is something the matter?” The president of the Ci’en Hospital, Wang Kaiji, was a world-renowned cardiac surgeon. Normally, at this time, Wang Kaiji would be asleep. It so happened that Wang Kaiji had just completed a surgery and received Lan Xiping’s message.

“Teacher, is Mr. Reinhert currently in the country?” Lan Xiping got straight to the point.

“He is. I also asked him to sit in our hospital for half a year. This month happens to be his last month,” Wang Kaiji was puzzled. “Do you need Mr. Reinhert for something?”

“Teacher, I have a friend who’s been hypnotized and I hope Mr. Reinhert can help resolve my friend’s difficulties,” Lan Xiping explained.

Wang Kaiji realized the gravity of the situation and said in a solemn tone, “Alright, I’ll contact Mr. Reinhert for you.”

“Thank you, Teacher,” Lan Xiping expressed his gratitude in his words.

After hanging up the phone, Lan Xiping paced back and forth on the balcony, feeling a sense of regret for not majoring in psychology initially, which would have enabled him to assist Chen Li in a better way.

Sensing Lan Xiping’s anxiety, Jiang Ye walked over and gently ruffled Lan Xiping’s hair, soothingly saying, “It will be alright. Chen Li will recover.”

Lan Xiping nodded, “Yes, he will definitely recover.”

Wang Kaiji acted swiftly; within fifteen minutes, he called Lan Xiping back, having successfully persuaded Mr. Reinhert. They were ready to depart for Shanghai immediately.

It was at this moment that Jiang Ye’s influence shone through. He swiftly arranged for a private plane, carrying Lan Xiping, Jiang Ye, and Mr. Reinhert, heading straight to Shanghai.

The private jet reached Shanghai at the fastest speed. Wei Chen had received the news earlier, and Wei Yan, volunteering, was waiting at the airport. As the plane landed, he rushed forward to receive them.

Though Wei Yan and Mr. Reinhert knew each other, there was no time for formalities. Upon their arrival, Wei Yan drove at high speed, reaching the Wei residence in just over twenty minutes.

Mr. Reinhert had already discussed the situation over the phone during the flight. As they arrived at Chen Li’s room, he immediately went to check on Chen Li’s condition.

The room became incredibly quiet, everyone present held their breath, watching Mr. Reinhert intently.

“It’s fortunate that I arrived in time,” Mr. Reinhert said after examining Chen Li’s condition, letting out a sigh of relief.

These words slightly eased the tension in the room for everyone present.

“You all should leave. A quiet environment is crucial during treatment; not even a sound should disrupt the atmosphere,” Mr. Reinhert turned to the anxious group waiting.

Wei Chen’s gaze lingered on the bed, filled with worry, as he left the room. The door closed, obstructing Wei Chen’s view of Chen Li. With his increasing worry, Wei Chen paced back and forth in the corridor, feeling as if a heavy weight pressed upon him, making it difficult to breathe.

Wei Yan brought a stool, encouraging Wei Chen to sit, and reassured him, “Achen, trust me, Mr. Reinhert is internationally recognized as the best psychologist. If he says he arrived in time, Chen Li will be fine.”

It was unclear whether Wei Chen heard it or not. He was pinned down on the stool by Wei Yan and he remained motionless waiting for the result.

Once he was completely settled, Wei Yan expressed his gratitude to Lan Xiping and Jiang Ye, recognizing their vital assistance. If not for their intervention, it would have been impossible to get Mr. Reinhert’s help.

Lan Xiping modestly stated, “It was fortunate Mr. Reinhert happened to be in the country; otherwise, we couldn’t have arranged for his arrival.” He tactfully declined to take credit for their actions.

The group outside the room fell silent, anxiously anticipating the opening of the door. Finally, after about fifteen minutes, the door creaked open, revealing Mr. Reinhert exiting the room.

“Good news. The patient is fine and will wake up in the morning. But until then, no one should disturb his rest,” Mr. Reinhert announced.

Expressing his gratitude, Wei Chen stood up immediately upon the door’s opening and thanked Mr. Reinhert wholeheartedly.

Mr. Reinhert inquired if the person who hypnotized the patient was named Xu Ruru, to which Wei Chen confirmed. It turned out that she was his student, leading him to express regret for the trouble she caused. Wei Chen, however, thanked Mr. Reinhert for making the effort to travel late at night.

Once the situation with Chen Li was confirmed to be stable, Wei Chen’s demeanor returned to normal, devoid of the previous frantic distress.

At this time, Grandfather Wei had arranged for Housekeeper Zhang to come and understand the situation. Wei Chen then directed Housekeeper Zhang to prepare a few guest rooms and urged the guests to rest after the series of events that had transpired.

With the daylight breaking, it was time to rest. Housekeeper Zhang promptly went to carry out the arrangements.

When Mr. Reinhert suggested that Wei Chen stay with the patient until he awoke, Wei Chen agreed. After Mr. Reinhert retired to rest, Wei Chen remained in the room, quietly sitting by the bedside, awaiting Chen Li’s awakening.

As the darkness vanished with the morning light, Chen Li, who had been in a coma all night, finally opened his eyes as the first rays of sunlight streamed into the room.
