Chapter 34 – It Was Really a Big Departure

This bold and seemingly with a touch of rebelliousness girl, coupled with the fact that Wen Yulan didn’t look good and was an orphan, even if she could earn a full ten work points in the fields every day, she was indeed not a suitable candidate for a good wife.

So, now, four years have passed, and Wen Yulan, at the age of 19, still had no one coming to propose, and no one dared to choose such a wife.

People were afraid that if Wen Yulan got upset, she would grab an axe and chop at you.

So, due to Wen Yulan’s personality, it was completely different from her name.

Such a girl, this little girl, actually said someone was suitable for her, and even claimed that Wen Yulan liked him.

This, this was really a big departure from reality.

Xu Xiangdong had been to Dayu Production Brigade before and had seen Wen Yulan a few times by chance. He really couldn’t imagine what it would be like for Wen Yulan to like him.

Moreover, didn’t this girl just hear? What he wanted was someone who liked him, and he also liked them.

But someone like Wen Yulan, he really didn’t like.

Xu Xiangdong had to admit that he preferred girls who were fairer and had good features.

They didn’t have to be extremely good-looking, but they couldn’t be ugly either.

But in Xu Xiangdong’s limited impression, Wen Yulan’s image was dark, even darker than him, and she was untidy, with her hair almost covering her face.

Many people said it was because Wen Yulan was too ugly that she covered her face with her hair.

Everyone believed that Wen Yulan was very ugly, so the fact that Wen Yulan was ugly became a reality.

[Big brother, Wen Yulan’s personality is so good, facing the forces of evil, she uses resistance so as not to be b*llied.]

On this point, Xu Xiangdong agreed.

He didn’t think that Wen Yulan chasing her second uncle and second aunt with an axe was a bad or unfilial thing.

On the contrary, he quite admired Wen Yulan’s behavior.

Good people are often b*llied. In the face of evil forces, one should resist, or else they’ll be devoured without a trace.

If Wen Yulan hadn’t resisted back then, she would have been married to that widower in his fifties.

[Moreover, Wen Yulan is a great beauty.]

What, Wen Yulan is a great beauty?

Xu Xiangdong looked at Xu Jinning in surprise, assessing the little girl.

Had this little girl ever seen Wen Yulan? Could she really consider Wen Yulan beautiful in her current untidy and skinny state?

Xu Xiangdong deeply felt that this little girl’s sense of aesthetics was off, definitely twisted.

Xu Xiangdong was deeply troubled about the little girl’s future. Could it be that in the future, she would also marry an untidy and skinny man thinking it’s attractive? That wouldn’t do.

Xu Xiangdong thought he needed to find an opportunity to correct the little girl’s skewed sense of aesthetics.

[Big brother, Wen Yulan really likes you. Since five years ago, when you gave her two steamed buns and a jacket in the small grove, she has silently liked you all along.]

Five years ago, small grove, white steamed buns?

Xu Jinning’s words made Xu Xiangdong delve into his memories.

If the little girl hadn’t mentioned it, he probably wouldn’t remember, but now that she did, he seemed to recall that such an incident had indeed occurred.

Five years ago, he was 14 years old at that time.

Even though he was only 14 years old at the time, he was already tall and sturdy, earning ten work points a day.

He remembered that day; it was a very cold winter, and he heard that many people had frozen to death that year.

At that time, his mother rarely made white steamed buns.

He had eaten a lot at home and, when leaving, casually took two with him as snacks.

It was a snowy day, and since there was no work to be done in the fields, he decided to wander outside after finishing his meal.

Due to the extremely cold weather, nobody else was out.

As he strolled around, unknowingly, he found himself in a small grove.

Originally intending to see if there were any wild chickens or rabbits, he found that it was too cold, and these small animals had not come out.

After wandering for a while, feeling the intense cold, he decided to leave.

Unexpectedly, at that moment, he heard a sound.

He initially thought it was some small animal but was surprised to find a person.

A person dressed very thinly, covered in dirt, with dark skin, and hair covering the face; he couldn’t even tell if it was a man or a woman.

He only remembered that she was very small, very thin, very cold, and almost unconscious.

She just extended her hand towards him, saying two words: hungry, cold.

Xu Xiangdong was not the type to ignore someone in need.

He fed the person one of the steamed buns he had, and he even took off his jacket and put it on her.

After eating, and with the warmth of the jacket, the person gradually regained consciousness.

When he left, Xu Xiangdong gave the remaining steamed bun to the person.

Because he no longer had the jacket, it was too cold. He didn’t stay long, just told her to hurry home, and then he left.

The reason he still remembered this incident was that on that day, without the jacket, he got scolded by Zhang Ailian when he returned home.

However, after that, Xu Xiangdong gradually forgot about the incident. If the little girl hadn’t brought it up today, he might have completely forgotten.

To this day, he still doesn’t know who that person was, and whether it was a man or a woman.

Now, hearing the little girl’s words, could it be that person was Wen Yulan?

Xu Xiangdong thought about it and realized that there were some similarities.

The same untidiness and skinniness.

However, this matter was known only to him and that person. The little girl hadn’t returned to Qinghe Production Brigade at that time, so she definitely wouldn’t know.

But now she seemed to know it so clearly.

Xu Xiangdong felt that this little girl knew a lot of things.

Remarkable.

However, Wen Yulan was really not the type he liked. Maybe it’s better to let it go.

[If Wen Yulan could marry my big brother, perhaps she could avoid that tragic fate, otherwise…]

Xu Jinning sighed. Yes, in this story, Wen Yulan was also a cannon fodder character.

Listening to her earlier stories, it seemed like the setup for a strong and independent female lead, and Wen Yulan’s personality did indeed fit that.

Unfortunately, Wen Yulan was just cannon fodder and ultimately died at the age of 20, which is next year.

Afterwards, her house was still seized by her uncle and aunt.

It could be said that good people don’t live long, while bad people can endure for thousands of years.

Xu Xiangdong was stunned.

Tragic fate, does that mean Wen Yulan will die in the future? Although he didn’t like Wen Yulan and had no intention of marrying her, he never thought that she would die.

Could it be that if she married him, Wen Yulan wouldn’t die?

Xu Xiangdong bit his lip, deep in thought.

In the end, he struggled and said to his mother, “Mother, do you know Wen Yulan from Dayu Production Brigade?”

Xu Jinning’s eyes suddenly lit up.

“Of course, I know,” Zhang Ailian replied.

“How about this, you can have the matchmaker go to Dayu Production Brigade and ask if Wen Yulan is willing to marry me?”

“What? You want to marry Wen Yulan?”

“Little brother, are you crazy?”

“Brother, do you like that type of girl?”

Even Zhang Ailian looked at him with surprise. While she had no negative impressions of Wen Yulan, her reputation in the neighborhood wasn’t that good.

  1. Her Brother is a pretty good guy I don’t know if I could marry someone I had no interest in even if it was to save a life. Now I’m sure he will like her when he meets her but the fact that he’s considering it while thinking she’s not his type to help her is so sweet.
