Chapter 33 – Did Wen Yulan like him?!

“That night, I was in the small grove and saw you with Zhao Hongxing…”

“Educated Youth Sun, I already know what kind of person you are. It was my eyes that were not good, deceived by you, that I liked you. Now I don’t anymore. I know you don’t like me; you just want to gain benefits from me. But I’m not a fool.”

“I won’t dwell on the past, but from now on, please don’t disturb me or come looking for me.” He still had arranged meetings for prospective marriage. He couldn’t leave a bad impression on his future wife.

“Otherwise, I can’t guarantee that I won’t reveal  what you did with Zhao Hongxing in the small grove that night.”

After saying this, Xu Xiangdong gave Sun Meiwen a self-satisfied look and walked away.

Leaving Sun Meiwen standing there, trembling with anger.

“Pah, you think I like you? I don’t like you. You’re not even comparable to a single toe of Educated Youth Fu. I don’t want to waste my thoughts on you.”

Sun Meiwen stomped her foot, feeling upset. In the end, she could only accept it and decided to give up on Xu Xiangdong.

Her affair with Zhao Hongxing couldn’t be known to others, especially Educated Youth Fu.

With everything settled, Sun Meiwen left.

Not long after she left, a person emerged from the nearby pile of grass. This person was none other than Zhao Hongxing.

Zhao Hongxing looked at Sun Meiwen’s departing figure, hmphed softly, spat out the grass in his mouth onto the ground, his face full of a confident expression that he would eventually win Sun Meiwen.

Did Zhao Hongxing know that Sun Meiwen liked Educated Youth Fu? Of course, he did.

He also knew that Educated Youth Fu didn’t like Sun Meiwen.

Did Zhao Hongxing know that Sun Meiwen was just stringing him along and didn’t actually like him? Of course, he knew.

He knew all of it.

But it didn’t matter.

He didn’t care; he liked Sun Meiwen. As long as he could eventually keep Sun Meiwen in Qinghe Production Brigade and have her bear children for him, that’s all that mattered to Zhao Hongxing.

As for anything else, Zhao Hongxing didn’t care.

With hands behind his head, humming a tune, he swayed away. His mood seemed quite good.

Ever since that day, Sun Meiwen had never approached Xu Xiangdong again. In fact, when she saw Xu Xiangdong, she would deliberately keep her distance, a complete reversal from before.

This suited Xu Xiangdong just fine.

However, Xu Xiangdong was quite eager for marriage.

So, one morning after breakfast, he discussed his plans for arranged marriage with Zhang Ailian and asked her to arrange it through a matchmaker.

“What? You want to go on a blind date? Don’t you like that Educated Youth Sun?” Zhang Ailian asked in confusion. Although she didn’t particularly like those educated youth, thinking they were not good at work and lacked the straightforwardness of the village girls, she didn’t have much objection if her son liked them.

It was just surprising to her that her eldest son suddenly wanted to go on a blind date.

“I don’t like her anymore; she’s not a good match.” Xu Xiangdong didn’t want to dwell on Educated Youth Sun. His infatuation with her had become a black mark in his history. He still couldn’t understand why he liked that Educated Youth Sun so much before, as if he had been bewitched.

“Then, do you need to retrieve the things you gave her before?” Xu Xiangbei asked.

Xu Xiangbei was someone who valued interests. What he saw wasn’t Xu Xiangdong’s change of heart towards Educated Youth Sun but the fact that many things, be it food, drinks, or other items, had been given away.

If Educated Youth Sun was going to be part of the family in the future, it would be fine to have given those away. But now that she wasn’t, shouldn’t they get those things back?

Anyway, if it were him, he would definitely retrieve them.

But he felt that his elder brother probably wouldn’t do that.

Sure enough, Xu Xiangdong shook his head, indicating that he wouldn’t ask Educated Youth Sun for those things back.

After all, it was his own foolishness that led to giving them away. Consider it a lesson learned.

He definitely wouldn’t do it again.

Xu Xiangbei smiled without saying anything. He knew that his elder brother wouldn’t ask for them back, but he didn’t really care either.

Xu Jinning’s gaze quietly fell on Xu Xiangbei.

Now, it seemed that only this second brother of theirs had not yet awakened. She wondered what the turning point would be.

As for why Xu Jinning knew this, it was because Xu Xiangbei’s behavior now exactly matched the plot. Towards her, he wouldn’t mock or ridicule, but completely ignore her, as if there was no Xu Jinning in the family.

When he saw Xu Jinning, he would act as if he hadn’t seen her.

Xu Jinning told herself to be patient, to take it slow.

Meanwhile, the discussion about Xu Xiangdong’s blind date continued.

“What kind of person are you planning to find?”

Xu Xiangdong thought for a moment. “Hmm, she should be good-looking, capable of working hard, a nice person, with a straight character. She should like me, and I should like her. And she shouldn’t have unrealistic ambitions.”

Zhang Ailian commented, “That’s quite a list of requirements.”

“Alright, since you’ve made up your mind, I’ll help you arrange it. We’ll see when the time comes.”

On the side, Xu Jinning, who had been listening, remembered someone.

[Big brother, I think I know someone who would be perfect for you!]

When Xu Xiangdong turned to look at Xu Jinning and saw her hesitate, he knew she was speaking from the heart again.

This little sister, does she know something else?

Who would be suitable for him?

Xu Xiangdong was actually curious to hear.

[Big brother, the neighboring production brigade, Dayu Production Brigade’s Wen Yulan, is very suitable for you, and she especially likes you.]

What, Wen Yulan!

Xu Xiangdong’s eyes widened slightly. No, this can’t be.

It’s not surprising that Xu Xiangdong was so astonished because Wen Yulan’s reputation was well-known in the nearby villages.

Speaking of Wen Yulan’s early life, it was somewhat pitiful.

Her parents tragically passed away early, and Wen Yulan was adopted by her second uncle and second aunt to live with them.

Of course, the reason her second uncle and second aunt adopted her was because of the house left behind by Wen Yulan’s parents. With a large family, her second uncle and second aunt coveted her house and decided to take her in.

At that time, Wen Yulan was only 5 years old.

However, after Wen Yulan’s adoption, her second uncle and second aunt did not treat her well. They not only made her do household chores but also forced the young girl to work in the fields. She often went hungry and cold, and even when she was sick, they didn’t provide her with proper care.

This difficult life continued until Wen Yulan was 15. That’s when her second uncle and second aunt tried to marry her off to a widowed man in his 50s with a limp. That was the breaking point for Wen Yulan.

Before the age of 15, Wen Yulan was timid and endured everything.

But after this incident, Wen Yulan changed completely. She could now directly confront her second uncle and second aunt with an axe, using various threats and intimidation.

In the end, not only were her second uncle and second aunt scared off, never daring to harm her again, but they also vacated the house, handing it over to Wen Yulan.

During that time, Wen Yulan, brandishing an axe, chased her second uncle and second aunt out of the village.

Because of this incident, Wen Yulan became famous for her fierceness, and people in several villages knew about her. Her toughness and ugliness were etched into everyone’s memory.

Why do I get the feeling he is happy because without Xiangdong, there is no one anymore in his way to grasp her with underhanded means…
