Chapter 126 – She and Xu Jinning were opposites

Wei Rou almost revealed the fact that Yang Zhiwen was a eunuch, but fortunately stopped in time.

Even so, Yang Zhiwen could see that Wei Rou really didn’t want to marry him.

But…

“Wei Rou, since I can’t marry Xu Fanghua anyway, you have to marry me.”

Yang Zhiwen didn’t say much and left.

Wei Rou didn’t know why Yang Zhiwen suddenly went crazy wanting to marry her, but she could only grit her teeth in anger.

In any case, she wouldn’t marry Yang Zhiwen, nor would she marry into the Yang family.

On the other hand, Mother Wei saw Wei Rou’s resolute attitude and didn’t understand why this girl didn’t want to marry Yang Zhiwen.

Isn’t Yang Zhiwen and the Yang family good?

But it doesn’t matter. If this girl doesn’t want to marry, she has ways to make her marry.

Anyway, she and Yang Zhiwen have already discussed and agreed on the wedding date, and she has received the 150 yuan betrothal gift. This girl, whether she wants to marry or not, she will marry.

Wei Rou naturally didn’t know that Mother Wei was already prepared to “sell” her to the Yang family.

She also couldn’t imagine how ruthless Mother Wei’s subsequent methods would be.

After the curtain fell on the textile factory’s housing allocation, those who were lucky enough to win apartment units began to move into their new homes one after another.

The Xu family was naturally busy too.

Xu Aiguo occasionally went to the garbage station to pick up some second-hand furniture or other things to fill the house.

Although Xu Aiguo currently lived in his countryside home, there were still some essential things that needed to be prepared for this welfare house.

At noon or other odd times, when Xu Aiguo couldn’t go home, he could also rest in this apartment.

Other family members who needed to do things in the county town and couldn’t return home in time could also take a rest here.

Xu Jinning also went with her father to pick up some nice furniture.

Surprisingly, they did find some.

For example, a set of yellow rosewood bed and wardrobe, although missing an arm or a leg, the missing parts were not significant, and with some repairs, they could still be used for a long time.

There were also some intact sandalwood stools and chairs.

All of these were brought back by Xu Jinning.

Xu Jinning’s days were busy and fulfilling, to the point where she forgot about many things, such as the main characters in those books or the concept of a protagonist halo.

But someone was thinking about her.

Of course, this “thinking about” needs to be put in quotation marks.

And the person thinking about Xu Jinning was Lin Wangshu, who was far away in Haishi City.

Lin Wangshu, also known as the original Xu Fangfang, had been arranged to work in the education department of Haishi City shortly after arriving there.

At first, she needed to adapt to the environment, so Lin Wangshu forgot about the Xu family in the countryside and Xu Jinning.

Therefore, she didn’t make any calls.

It wasn’t until today when she received a letter from Qinghe Production Brigade.

It was written by a girl named Ye Meizi.

Ye Meizi is a girl from Qinghe Production Brigade, and she used to follow Lin Wangshu, then known as Xu Fangfang, often admiring her and helping her with various tasks.

The reason Ye Meizi helped Lin Wangshu so much was that when Ye Meizi was starving, Lin Wangshu gave her a piece of peach pastry.

Since then, Ye Meizi regarded Lin Wangshu as a fairy, her lifesaver, and the person she wanted to repay for the rest of her life.

Before leaving Qinghe Production Brigade, Lin Wangshu instructed Ye Meizi to pay attention to the situation of the Xu family and Xu Jinning and to write to her if anything happened.

In fact, Lin Wangshu just casually mentioned this, but she didn’t expect to receive a letter from Ye Meizi today.

Because Ye Meizi’s mother passed away early, her father remarried, and her stepmother was cruel. When the stepmother arrived, Ye Meizi, who had only studied for two years, couldn’t continue her education and had to go home to help with chores.

Ye Meizi was often ab*sed by her stepmother, and her father only cared for and favored the two younger brothers born to the stepmother.

That’s why Lin Wangshu encountered Ye Meizi, who was half-dead from her stepmother’s beatings and near starvation.

No one treated Ye Meizi well, not even her own father.

So, Lin Wangshu, who was kind to Ye Meizi and gave her peach pastry, became the light in Ye Meizi’s life.

Although Ye Meizi had studied for two years and knew quite a few characters, there were still many she didn’t recognize.

In this letter, for the characters she didn’t know, she used pinyin or similar-looking characters instead.

Therefore, Lin Wangshu found it quite challenging to read this letter.

Initially, Lin Wangshu wasn’t interested in reading this letter and almost threw it away. However, thinking that Ye Meizi might write about the Xu family and Xu Jinning, she chose not to discard it. After finishing her work and returning home, she began to read the letter.

Despite the difficulty, Lin Wangshu persisted and finished reading the letter.

However, after reading it, Lin Wangshu’s face darkened, and her eyes were filled with confusion.

“It shouldn’t be like this, it shouldn’t be…” Lin Wangshu muttered to herself.

In Ye Meizi’s letter, she mentioned that the Xu family treated the returned Xu Jinning very well. Zhang Ailian personally made clothes for her, and she even exchanged some of her old clothes for new fabric with others. Xu Xiangdong and Xu Xiangbei also protected Xu Jinning when they were out, stating that she was their biological sister and no one should b*lly her. Xu Fanghua also helped Xu Jinning with reading and writing, and even Xu Aiguo wrote Xu Jinning’s name on the apartment unit allocated by the factory…

The more Lin Wangshu read, the more confused and anxious she felt.

“This doesn’t make sense.”

Clearly, it shouldn’t be like this.

Clearly, she had said that Xu Jinning is someone who likes wealth and dislikes poverty, and clearly, the Xu family should have liked her the most.

Clearly, based on her previous setup, the Xu family should have disliked Xu Jinning.

Why are they treating Xu Jinning so well now?

It’s even better than she expected.

This made Lin Wangshu feel like things were slipping out of her control, and that feeling wasn’t good at all.

In fact, Lin Wangshu knew how Xu Jinning used to live, after all, her parents had known for a long time that Xu Jinning wasn’t their biological daughter.

She hadn’t even seen Xu Jinning much.

Lin Wangshu knew that Xu Jinning, despite being weak in character, was not bad; one could even say she was kind-hearted.

In fact, Lin Wangshu could ignore Xu Jinning altogether, even pretend she didn’t exist.

But deep down, there was a voice telling her that she and Xu Jinning were opposites.

If Xu Jinning was doing well, then she wouldn’t be.

Despite only having met Xu Jinning a few times and not having much interaction with her, Lin Wangshu inexplicably wanted to trample on Xu Jinning, treating her as an enemy.

Lin Wangshu didn’t know why she felt this way.

But she thought, perhaps it was because their energies clashed.

Originally, she was full of confidence, thinking she would see Xu Jinning not doing well in the Xu family. But now, the reality was unexpected.

Xu Jinning was doing very well in the Xu family, and even the Xu family liked her, perhaps even more than they liked Xu Fangfang.

Realizing this made Lin Wangshu feel uncomfortable to the core.

“No, I have to go back and see for myself,” Lin Wangshu muttered, making a decision.

Originally, Lin Wangshu had no intention of going back to the countryside after returning to the city. But now, she had to make a trip back.

  1. Based on Lin Wangshu’s thoughts, doesn’t it mean she’s also greatly influenced by the novel and technically might not have been so antagonistic toward Xu Jinning? I wonder if all the evil protagonists, although inherently not good in nature, would have actually gone so far in their original actions toward the good cannon fodder unless their presence directly threatened their well-being?

I love this novel so far! Thanks for the chapter! 😀
