Chapter 129 – Investigate, must investigate! And it must be done immediately!

Here, Xu Jinning opened her mouth several times before finally saying something.

“Dad Changzheng, do you want to go to the county hospital when you have time?”

After realizing she could say this sentence, Xu Jinning slowly knew how to continue.

“Oh right, Mom Xuemei is pregnant, right? Is she also going to the county hospital for a check-up?”

“Will she give birth at the county hospital then?”

With three mentions of the county hospital, Zhang Changzheng pondered slightly. Could there be something related to the county hospital?

Thinking this, he calmly answered Xu Jinning’s questions.

“Yes, we plan to give birth at the obstetrics and gynecology department of the county hospital, but it’s still early.”

“Who is the doctor in charge of the check-up? I went to the county hospital today and saw Dr. Zhong Dequan in charge of obstetrics and gynecology.”

“Yes, it’s him.”

Zhong Dequan…

Could it be related to this person?

Zhang Changzheng silently thought in his mind, his intuition telling him that Xu Jinning’s visit today wasn’t so simple.

Especially when he heard the little girl’s inner thoughts just now.

“What’s wrong? Does Dr. Zhong Dequan have any issues? Or does Ningning feel like he’s not reliable?” Zhang Changzheng asked tentatively, his eyes also assessing Xu Jinning, not missing any expression on her face.

“He…” Xu Jinning opened her mouth but found that she couldn’t say anything.

Desperate, Xu Jinning screamed in her mind.

[He’s a demon!]

[He appears to be an obstetrician, but in reality, he has been collaborating with human tr*ffickers for over a decade, s*lling countless newborn babies to them. This kind of person is a beast, he truly deserves to die!]

Initially calm, Zhang Changzheng was suddenly shocked upon hearing Xu Jinning’s inner thoughts. Even the hand holding the pen tightened, and his expression instantly became serious.

“Oh, Dad Changzheng, just visit the obstetrics and gynecology department at the county hospital more often. By the way, pay more attention to Deng Cuicui in the obstetrics and gynecology department…”

After saying this, Xu Jinning couldn’t bring herself to say anything else.

Feeling urgent, she couldn’t dwell on expressing these thoughts, wondering how Dad Changzheng would react.

She just hoped that Dad Changzheng would take it seriously.

Zhong Dequan was too terrifying. Even if, even if it meant exposing herself to Dad Changzheng this time, she had to give a warning.

[…Dad Changzheng, you must investigate this, you must catch the demon Zhong Dequan…]

Continuing in Xu Jinning’s recollection of the situation, Zhang Changzheng also understood the reason.

He learned that Zhong Dequan had been using his position to collaborate with human tr*ffickers and s*ll abducted babies.

This had been going on for over a decade.

He also learned that Zhong Dequan’s next target was the child in Deng Cuicui’s belly.

A child about to become a blood bag…

…

If what Ningning said is true, then Zhong Dequan is truly terrifying.

Over the course of more than a decade, he abducted countless infants through such methods.

Investigate, must investigate! And it must be done immediately!

Deep down, a voice was faintly telling Zhang Changzheng that Ningning’s “predictions” had been accurate twice before.

So, this matter regarding Zhong Dequan was likely true as well.

In truth, Zhang Changzheng hoped this time it was false because if it were true, then over these many years, Zhong Dequan would have abducted so many infants using such methods. Zhang Changzheng dared not imagine.

But if it were true, Zhong Dequan must be caught! Such a demon must be swiftly brought to justice.

The abducted infants must be found.

Those who were or would be victims of Zhong Dequan’s cruelty in the future could also be spared from such misfortune.

“Ningning, what you’ve said, Dad Changzheng has taken note. I will visit the county hospital’s obstetrics and gynecology department, pay attention to Dr. Zhong Dequan as well as Deng Cuicui as you mentioned.”

Upon hearing Zhang Changzheng’s assurance, Xu Jinning felt relieved.

Xu Jinning was still somewhat worried that Zhang Changzheng would be suspicious, would ask her questions, but to her surprise, until she left, Zhang Changzheng didn’t ask anything and even prepared many things for her to take with her.

It’s better if he didn’t ask. If he had asked, she wouldn’t have known how to answer.

On the other hand, as Xu Jinning left, Zhang Changzheng immediately began his preliminary investigation into Zhong Dequan and the county hospital.

Soon, he discovered something.

So, it seems that the neonatal mortality rate in the obstetrics and gynecology department of this county hospital is somewhat high.

Especially during Zhong Dequan’s tenure over the past decade or so.

Almost every year, there have been newborn deaths in the obstetrics and gynecology department due to various reasons.

Actually, newborn deaths are normal to some extent, especially when medical technology isn’t very advanced yet. Sometimes, complications during childbirth can lead to both the mother and the baby passing away.

Of course, among the data Zhang Changzheng saw, there were cases of maternal and infant deaths during childbirth.

However, whether it’s maternal and infant deaths during childbirth or newborn deaths, the numbers seemed to be quite high.

Zhang Changzheng specifically compared this with another hospital of the same level in a different county.

He found that the maternal and infant mortality rates at Anren Hospital were abnormal.

Both of these numbers started increasing in Zhong Dequan’s second year in office.

And they increased year by year, with the most recent years showing even higher numbers.

Looking at those recorded numbers one by one, Zhang Changzheng felt a chill down his spine. Each number represented a living soul lost.

The more he looked, the more alarmed Zhang Changzheng became.

Soon, Zhang Changzheng called someone over.

“Go and investigate the conditions of these pregnant women and their children before they were admitted to Anren Hospital.”

“Also, find out how those newborns who were declared dead were handled in the end.”

“Yes.” Although the subordinate didn’t understand why Zhang Changzheng suddenly asked him to investigate hospital matters, especially ones that happened over a decade ago, since Zhang Changzheng, the leader, gave the order, he went to investigate.

The subordinate left with the data, and the office returned to silence, but Zhang Changzheng couldn’t calm down for a long time.

Because when he looked at those numbers, he had a vague suspicion.

What if, what if those supposedly difficult childbirth cases, where both mother and child died, what if their bodies were initially fine?

After all, how could there be so many cases of difficult childbirth?

If their bodies were initially fine, why did they end up in such tragic situations?

There were only two reasons.

One was medical accidents, the doctor’s skills weren’t up to par.

And then there was the one…

The one Zhang Changzheng was least willing to consider.

That is… intentional!

Yes, if the mothers and their unborn babies were healthy, but during childbirth, the doctor intentionally let the mothers die to take away healthy babies, then faked the deaths of both.

Was that a possibility?

Initially, Zhang Changzheng didn’t want to think like that, but all those cases of maternal and infant deaths were under the care of Zhong Dequan.

Coupled with what he heard from Ningning’s inner thoughts.

Zhang Changzheng couldn’t help but think this way.

If it was true…

Then Zhong Dequan wasn’t just tr*fficking babies; he was intentionally killing people to tr*ffic more babies, not just one.

Over the years, how many mothers had died under his knife, in these so-called cases of both mother and child dying?

  1. That’s just horrible. Someone like Zhong Dequan deserves an extremely harsh and painful punishment because a simple death is too good for him. I wonder if his father-in-law is involved as well because how could he alone get away with all of that without someone covering his tracks or even questioning the “mortality rates” that have continued to increase under his care?

    Thanks for the chapter! 😀
