Chapter 310 – Soul Annihilation
Murong Jing reached out, trying to seek help from those around her, but… not only was there no way to save her, but even if there was, no one would.
Saving Murong Jing would mean that the sacrifices of those who died or were injured because of her would be in vain.
In the end, Murong Jing could only watch helplessly as her soul was burned to nothingness.
Her eyes were filled with unwillingness.
She had thought that after self-destructing in the cultivation realm and then crossing into this mundane world, possessing a body so compatible with her soul was her destiny.
She believed this was her fate.
She swore to stand at the pinnacle of this world, to cultivate and return to the cultivation realm.
Perhaps she could find true love and happiness in this world.
Everyone would revere and fear her.
Murong Jing believed this was supposed to be her future.
But now, how had things turned out differently?
How had her future come to an abrupt end?
Something had gone wrong, something had definitely gone wrong!
Where had this golden light of merit come from?
Murong Jing suddenly recalled the golden light of merit that had injured her while she was on the train.
And she remembered the girl named Xu Jinning, who was enveloped in the golden light of merit.
Murong Jing didn’t know why she thought of Xu Jinning at that moment, but she suspected it was out of jealousy.
Why could such an ordinary girl possess such a dense golden light of merit, as if she were favored by the heavens?
And what about her? Despite her efforts and talent, this was her end.
“Heaven is unjust, heaven is unjust!”
In the final moment before her soul was completely burned away, Murong Jing shouted this.
But the heavens did not respond to her.
If the heavens truly existed, they might look upon Murong Jing with cold indifference.
For the heavens knew that if Murong Jing were allowed to continue, countless people would suffer, and even the fate of a nation could be profoundly affected.
That would be the true injustice.
Thus, neither Murong Jing nor Jiang Xiao belonged to this world. They should not exist to disrupt the world’s order.
Especially when the heavens had finally brought Xu Jinning to mend this broken world, no other anomalies could be allowed to disturb her.
The heavens had to protect Xu Jinning.
In the end, Murong Jing received no answer and was completely annihilated.
At the moment Murong Jing’s soul was destroyed, a young man in a small town in the west suddenly woke from a dream, his forehead covered in sweat.
He had a nightmare, though he couldn’t recall its details.
All he remembered was a feeling of having lost something very important.
Looking out the window, he saw the short fence, muddy ground, chickens and ducks wandering about, and the vegetable patches…
This was his life now, mundane and unremarkable.
Yet he felt this shouldn’t be his life.
He believed he was meant to marry a capable and beautiful woman and live a life of prestige.
He had always thought such a life was within reach.
But now, inexplicably, he felt it was no longer possible.
He even felt he might be trapped in this small village forever, marrying a village girl, leading a plain and uninteresting life.
It seemed impossible to change.
If Murong Jing were here, she would recognize this man as having the exact same face as the scumbag from the cultivation realm.
And if she looked deeper, she would discover that this man’s soul was indeed that man’s.
Unfortunately, Murong Jing’s soul was now completely annihilated, so it was impossible for her to see that man again.
If Xu Jinning knew about this man, she would realize that his soul was indeed that of the man who had wronged Murong Jing in the cultivation realm.
If Murong Jing had not died, her future in this world would have involved continuing her entanglement with this man, eventually being moved by him and being with him.
Because Murong Jing was the protagonist of the novel, and this man was the male protagonist.
Unfortunately, now that Murong Jing, the protagonist, was completely gone, the man who depended on her to exist as the male protagonist could no longer fulfill that role and would remain an ordinary person.
Even though he had lost his memories of the cultivation realm, he was indeed that man.
He had also possessed this body.
Now, without the aura of the male protagonist, his future was destined to be bleak.
The heavens would never spare any evildoer!
Meanwhile, Xu Jinning woke from a nap, still somewhat dazed by the dream she had.
During her lunchtime nap, she had a dream.
In the dream, a voice claiming to be the Dao of Heaven spoke to her, asking to borrow her power for justice.
It said there was a person who had committed countless misdeeds and would continue to do so in the future, but this person had been caught and was trying to escape.
To prevent this person from escaping and to ensure their punishment, the Dao of Heaven needed to borrow Xu Jinning’s golden light of merit to punish the evildoer.
After borrowing it, the Dao of Heaven would return the golden light of merit to Xu Jinning.
Xu Jinning didn’t think too much about it.
She wasn’t entirely sure what the golden light of merit was or why she had it.
But since she had it, and since it was to punish an evildoer, she agreed to lend it.
Then, Xu Jinning saw a beam of golden light float out from her body, but she didn’t know where it went.
In the last part of the dream, that golden light returned. It seemed even more intense and immediately re-entered her body.
The Dao of Heaven expressed its gratitude, saying that the evildoer had been punished.
It also advised her to stay true to herself, assuring her that her life would continue to improve.
Xu Jinning wasn’t sure if her dream was real or just a dream.
She had no way to verify its truth.
Unable to figure it out, Xu Jinning didn’t dwell on it.
Once she recovered her composure, she returned to her studies.
The next day, she learned about Murong Jing’s fate from Xie Ting’an.
“She’s dead?”
“Yes.”
Xu Jinning was filled with surprise. Murong Jing, the protagonist of a novel, whom she believed to be the most formidable, ruthless, and difficult to deal with among all the author’s characters, had actually died?
She didn’t feel any pity or regret for Murong Jing’s death.
She knew Murong Jing was an evildoer, and if she continued to exist, countless innocent people would suffer, and even the nation’s fortune could be affected.
So it was better that she was dead.
However, hearing the news so suddenly made her feel a bit taken aback.
It made her realize that the protagonists of these books didn’t seem to have much plot armor.
After all, they could apparently be killed quite easily.
“I heard it wasn’t easy for her to die. She killed some of our people and nearly escaped at first. But later, something happened, and she ended up dead, her soul completely annihilated.”
Hope the original Murong jing is alive
nah she died unfortunatly, she can’t survive that many gun shot wounds. maybe the golden light of merit might heal her, otherwise
I feel like the Dao of Heaven has forgotten he is supposed to be impartial…
So these protagonist are the true villains…
