Chapter 327 – Naming
Wen Yulan had just regained consciousness. Before she even opened her eyes, she smelled a fragrance, and her stomach growled with hunger.
When she opened her eyes, the first thing she saw was her father-in-law Xu Aiguo holding several lunch boxes, her sister-in-law Xu Jinning cradling a swaddled baby, and her husband Xu Xiangdong sitting by the bed, holding her hand and keeping watch over her.
Having gone through the ordeal of childbirth, waking up to find her family, her child, and her husband by her side, Wen Yulan felt an indescribable warmth in her heart.
This was the scene she had longed for since her parents passed away.
She believed that even though her parents had left her, they were still watching over her from above.
Otherwise, she wouldn’t have been so fortunate to hear Ningning’s inner thoughts, see the images, change her fate, and marry the wonderful Xu Xiangdong and into such a good family.
She had previously given birth to twin sons and now to a daughter.
Now she and Xiangdong had both a son and a daughter.
It must have been her parents watching over her from above that made her so lucky.
‘Mom and Dad, you can rest in peace. Your daughter is living very well now.’
“Wife, you’re awake. How are you feeling? Is there any discomfort?”
As soon as Wen Yulan woke up, Xu Xiangdong, who had been focused on her, immediately noticed.
“I’m fine.”
“You’re not fine. Your face is pale, and your voice sounds weak,” Xu Xiangdong said with deep concern.
“You need to eat to regain your strength. Yulan, this is the food your mother prepared for you. Xiangdong, hurry up and help your wife eat.”
“Yes, you need to eat. Eating will help your body recover gradually.”
Xu Xiangdong took the lunch boxes and opened them one by one.
There were eggs, vegetables, chicken soup with the oil skimmed off, millet porridge, lean meat, pig liver, and more.
Oh, and there was also brown sugar water.
The food variety was indeed rich.
“Your mother will also prepare pig stomach soup, crucian carp soup, lotus root starch, and red dates for you. Don’t worry about what to eat; your mother will have everything ready for you.”
“She said that once you’re discharged and back home, she’ll take good care of you during your postpartum recovery and make sure you regain your strength.”
Wen Yulan’s recovery was going well. During this era, there was no specific duration for staying in the hospital after a natural delivery or a cesarean section. If there were no complications, the mother could usually go home for her postpartum recovery soon after waking up.
In Wen Yulan’s case, Xu Xiangdong and his family decided that she would be discharged in the afternoon. It was more convenient to recover at home if there were no issues.
“Thank you, Dad and Mom.” Wen Yulan was truly grateful for having such wonderful in-laws.
“No need to thank us. Your mother said that giving birth is like passing through the gates of hell; you are the one who has suffered the most.”
“By the way, the baby…” Wen Yulan looked at the child in her sister-in-law’s arms.
She had passed out right after giving birth and had not seen the baby yet, only knowing it was a girl.
She loved her children, whether they were sons or daughters.
Xu Jinning had been ready to hand over the baby as soon as her sister-in-law woke up. Now that her sister-in-law was calling for the baby, how could she not bring her over?
So, she carried the baby to the bedside.
“Sister-in-law, look at this little one blowing bubbles. She’s so cute.”
Wen Yulan wanted to reach out and hold her baby. As a mother, she naturally wanted to embrace her child.
However, Xu Jinning didn’t let her.
“Sister-in-law, let me hold the baby and let her rest in your arms. You’ve just given birth. During the postpartum period, it’s best not to hold the baby too often, or your hands might ache in the future.”
Wen Yulan didn’t know about this, but she understood that her sister-in-law was looking out for her.
So she nodded in agreement.
Xu Jinning had become increasingly proficient at holding the baby. Now, she cradled the little one and placed her in her mother’s arms.
The baby’s nose twitched, sensing her mother’s presence. Instantly, she stopped blowing bubbles and nestled closer to her mother, reaching out with a tiny hand.
Although these small movements might have been unconscious for the infant, they brought a lump to Wen Yulan’s throat. Feeling the warmth and attachment from this little one, connected by blood, was truly magical. It touched her deeply, almost bringing tears to her eyes.
However, Wen Yulan held back. She knew she couldn’t cry during the postpartum period, as it wasn’t good for her eyes.
“She’s so beautiful,” Wen Yulan said softly, her eyes full of love as she looked at the child.
“Yulan, it’s time to eat,” Xu Xiangdong prepared the meal and brought it over, ready to feed her.
At the same time, he silently thought, ‘Yulan actually thinks this little one is good-looking? Am I the only one who thinks this baby looks a bit odd? I hope she grows out of it and becomes more attractive in a few days. Otherwise…’
Well, there was nothing he could do about it.
Their own not-so-attractive child naturally had to be well taken care of. After all, could they just throw her away? Or rebuild her?
Wen Yulan finished looking at the child and started accepting Xu Xiangdong’s feeding.
She was really hungry, having expended so much energy giving birth. Moreover, her mother-in-law’s cooking smelled absolutely delicious.
Meanwhile, Xu Jinning used a bottle to feed the baby some water.
After her sister-in-law finished eating and produced breast milk, they would feed her again.
But they also had formula at home, just in case.
Because she knew her sister-in-law was about to give birth, Xu Jinning had specially bought many cans of formula when she returned from Beijing. Apart from feeding her two nephews, Xu Feng and Xu Ji, she was also preparing for the impending arrival of her niece or nephew.
So, this little one wouldn’t lack anything to eat or drink.
As Wen Yulan ate her meal, she watched her sister-in-law holding her niece.
Suddenly, she remembered something.
“Ningning, there’s something I’d like to ask you.”
Xu Jinning turned to look at her. “What is it, sister-in-law?”
“I want to ask you to give a name to this little one.”
“Oh, me? Should I really be the one to name her?”
Xu Jinning felt that naming a child was something parents or grandparents were more inclined to do. It seemed more appropriate for them to choose a name.
Would it be suitable for her, as a younger sister-in-law, to name the child?
Of course, if her sister-in-law really wanted her to name the baby, she was willing to do it.
“Of course, it’s appropriate. You’re her aunt, so it’s only natural for you to name her,” Xu Xiangdong agreed naturally. Being a rough man with little education, he believed that naming the child should be left to someone educated.
“I think it’s a good idea too. Ningning, you’re a lucky person. Maybe naming this child will bring you some luck,” added Xu Aiguo.
Wen Yulan nodded. Yes, what her father-in-law said was exactly what she had in mind.
“Ningning, I feel like this child has a connection with you. You see, as soon as you came back, she was born immediately. She couldn’t wait to meet her little aunt.”
“Please teach her to be good and not trouble her mother too much. She was born soon after you returned, and I didn’t suffer much.”
“She seems very fond of you.”
