Chapter 348 – He Won’t Be Studying Abroad!

Ye Jing was immediately stunned.

Yuan Qi noticed his reaction and quickly asked, “What’s wrong?”

“I can’t find my name.”

“Ah, how could that be! Ajing, maybe you missed it. Look again, and I’ll help you.”

Ye Jing nodded, thinking it might be the case.

So, they both looked again, carefully.

But Ye Jing scanned it once, twice, three times…

He still couldn’t find his name.

‘How could this be? How could my name not be on the list?!’ Ye Jing couldn’t believe it.

“No, Ajing, I don’t see it either. Do you see it?” Yuan Qi also couldn’t find it and started to panic a bit.

“No.” Confirming that he was not on the list, Ye Jing’s tone turned cold.

“Hey, have you looked thoroughly? If you have, clear the way,” someone behind urged the people in front, including Ye Jing and Yuan Qi, to move aside.

Ye Jing, with a dark expression, pulled Yuan Qi, who was still standing there, out of the way. Ignoring her pregnancy and that she was a woman, he strode forward.

“Ajing, slow down.”

“Ajing, be gentle; you’re hurting my hand.”

“Ajing, aren’t you going to look again?”

“Look at what?” Ye Jing stopped and turned back to face Yuan Qi. His expression was somewhat frightening.

Yuan Qi, pulling back her hand, noticed it was already red and throbbing with pain from being gripped so tightly.

Yuan Qi, who had been pampered by her father since childhood, was not accustomed to this kind of pain. Seeing Ye Jing’s angry outburst and her reddened hand, her eyes instantly filled with tears.

“Yuan Qi, did you not want me to go abroad, so you lied to me, saying your father was willing to help? In reality, you never even asked him, did you? You deceived me, didn’t you?”

Ye Jing’s accusation made Yuan Qi feel deeply wronged.

Tears immediately streamed down her face.

“Ajing, how can you think that of me? Is that really how you see me?”

“I know you’re very eager to go abroad.”

“I really did go to find my father, and he agreed.”

“My father also said that you would be on the list.”

“Yuan Qi, even now, you’re still lying to me! If what you said was true, why am I not on the list now?”

“I—I don’t know, but I really didn’t lie to you,” Yuan Qi clung to Ye Jing’s shirt, her eyes filled with sorrow.

Ye Jing began to calm down, gradually regaining his composure.

He analyzed the situation in his mind.

Given Yuan Qi’s reaction, it didn’t seem possible she was lying to him. Perhaps it was Yuan Yong who deceived both Yuan Qi and him?

That was a possibility.

Ye Jing knew that Yuan Yong, his father-in-law, didn’t like him very much.

However, Ye Jing was also somewhat familiar with Yuan Yong’s character. For something Yuan Qi requested, Yuan Yong would have likely agreed, making deceit unlikely.

So what was going on?

“Ajing, do you think it’s possible that the president made a mistake when compiling the list? I think I heard someone mention that another person who was supposed to be on the list also couldn’t find their name. They’re planning to go speak with the president about it.”

“I think it’s very likely a mistake was made. How about we go ask the president?” Yuan Qi suggested.

“Alright, let’s go.” Given the current situation, Ye Jing agreed with Yuan Qi’s suggestion. Without further discussion, they headed towards the president’s office together.

“That’s the office up ahead,” Yuan Qi said, noticing someone who seemed to be in a bit of a hurry leaving the president’s office.

That person seemed to be the one who had mentioned earlier that they should be on the list but didn’t find their name, intending to speak with the president.

Is it him?

The person walked quickly, and Yuan Qi could only glance at them, unable to recognize them.

By then, they had reached the door of the president’s office.

“Let’s go in.”

Jiang Wenxu looked at the student with a slightly protruding belly, clearly pregnant, and then at the young man standing next to her.

“You are Yuan Qi, Yuan Yong’s daughter?”

“And you are Yuan Qi’s husband? Ye Jing?”

“Yes, President. I should probably call you ‘Uncle.’ I believe my father has spoken with you about Ajing’s situation. He should be on the list for studying abroad. Was he left off by mistake?” Yuan Qi inquired.

“Yes, your father did discuss this with me before. Ye Jing, right? He was indeed on the list.”

At these words from Jiang Wenxu, both Yuan Qi and Ye Jing’s expressions changed.

Yes, Ye Jing was supposed to be on the list.

“But, Uncle, we didn’t see Ajing’s name on the list we checked earlier. So it really was an oversight?”

“If it was indeed a mistake, should it be corrected and added to the list, or…?”

“There was originally a spot for him, but…” Jiang Wenxu paused, casting a cold glance at Ye Jing, who had been silent throughout and had been represented solely by Yuan Qi. “However, I later crossed his name off.”

“So, he is not on the study abroad list.”

“He will not be studying abroad!”

The declaration was absolute and final!

“President Jiang, why?” Ye Jing couldn’t contain his frustration and demanded an explanation.

“You finally spoke up. I was starting to think you were mute,” Jiang Wenxu taunted.

The remark was harsh, and Yuan Qi found it difficult to tolerate. “Uncle, even though you’re the president, you shouldn’t speak like that. It’s quite rude.”

“Rude? And what about his actions? Aren’t they disgraceful?”

Yuan Qi was taken aback by Jiang Wenxu’s comment, not understanding its meaning.

Ye Jing, however, had a sinking feeling in his gut.

No, it can’t be. Ye Jing was unwilling to accept it.

He had effectively discarded his past after leaving, so he wasn’t going to acknowledge it.

“Uncle, why did you remove Ajing’s name? Studying abroad has been his dream. He’s very smart and has always told me that after studying abroad, he would work hard and, when he returned to the country, contribute to the nation and its people.”

“Contribute to the nation and its people?” Jiang Wenxu laughed, his eyes filled with mockery. If he hadn’t heard and seen Xu Jinning’s inner thoughts about Ye Jing’s future, he might have believed it.

Ye Jing should be thankful that he’s not harming the nation and its people.

“Yuan Qi, do you know who I just spoke to before coming here? It was your father. He’s on his way over now.”

“If you’d like, you can wait here for him. When he arrives, you’ll understand the reason.”

Yuan Qi was a bit confused. Her father was coming over? Was he coming to inquire about why Ye Jing’s name was crossed off?

She couldn’t figure out the reason, but Yuan Qi decided to wait and see. She wanted to know the reason when her father arrived.

Even though Ye Jing had a bad feeling in his gut, his confidence in himself was strong. He tried to suppress the unease and decided to wait alongside Yuan Qi.
