Chapter 21: Senior Liu: I am QQ Superman
After obtaining 012’s blood, Su He went to perform the tests, while Yu Yan made his way to the bathroom to clean himself.
Given the difference between the sexes, Su He had extracted him from 012’s nest and had only given him a basic disinfection.
He was treated like an experimental subject, with a few sprays of disinfectant in the disinfection room, but other areas that needed cleaning were left untouched.
This was something Yu Yan had to handle himself.
Leaning against the shower wall, Yu Yan recalled the days when he had been dragged to help by a senior named Liu in the hospital.
Senior Liu worked in the proctology department and spent most of his time doing digital examinations.
He had become emotionally detached from the work, and despite being a straight man, claimed to have more experience than many homosexuals.
When he first entered the hospital, inexperienced young doctors like him were often used for various tasks, so Yu Yan had the chance to hear Senior Liu’s teachings and gained some practical experience.
“This is a bit painful.”
Skills not used for years felt rusty. It was also possible that performing the task on himself was not going smoothly.
Additionally, there were some residues.
012, being a major source of infection, made it risky to handle even with no protective measures, so dealing with these residues was…
Yu Yan paused for a moment, then found a sample bottle to collect and preserve it.
He thought openly that he had studied blood and sweat, but had never collected such samples. It was a good opportunity for testing.
Not long after he had collapsed back onto the bed, Su He returned with the blood test results for 012.
As expected, anomalies were detected.
“Although the residue is minimal, these two values are very high, which basically confirms that he inhaled Type I enhanced stimulant agents,” Su He said, holding the test report. “This episode of 012’s mating period was induced artificially.”
Yu Yan lay on the bed, sighing silently.
The only people who could have had contact with 012 during this time, besides himself and Su He, were Xiao Gao. Given Xiao Gao’s recent behavior, it was almost certain that he was responsible.
Since arriving in this world, his main interactions had been with 012 and Xiao Gao. Xiao Gao, being a young and diligent assistant, was meticulous and often chatted on and on like an old mother, but was cheerful and forgiving.
So, when he needed help, he hadn’t hesitated to choose Xiao Gao from among several assistant researchers.
In retrospect, his judgment about people seemed off, resulting in a significant setback for him.
After years as a doctor, his colleagues would only talk behind his back, trying to gain more credit or resources. But now, in this perilous new work environment, it was as if it was directly aiming to kill.
This was undoubtedly a murder plan. Given what was known about 012’s previous mating behavior, he should have been doomed to die.
However, the plotters, including Yu Yan himself, hadn’t anticipated 012’s unique reaction this time.
This situation was far from over; he couldn’t continue with a complacent attitude.
“Report to the research institute and request control over Xiao Gao. He is suspected of violating regulations with the experimental subject, causing a major accident in the lab,” Yu Yan said with a weary voice. “Find out who gave him instructions or threatened him.”
In truth, both Yu Yan and Su He had a good idea of what had happened, even without an official investigation.
Knowing the situation with 012, and given that someone who could obtain specific dr*gs to induce 012’s mating period and had the means to manipulate Xiao Gao would most likely be 012’s former caretaker, Zhou Xiangcheng.
“I’ll ask Sheqing about it,” Su He said with a solemn expression.
There was also a slight chance that Zhou Sheqing herself was involved. She had the ability and the opportunity, but considering her attitude during their last meeting and her concern for 012, Yu Yan thought this possibility was low.
Not long after Su He made contact, Zhou Sheqing arrived under the cover of night.
When she arrived, Su He was already overwhelmed by Yu Yan’s worsening condition.
In just one afternoon, Yu Yan’s condition had rapidly deteriorated, with persistent high fever. However, he remained conscious and even managed to joke.
“Junior, you’ve got a blisters on your mouth. I have chrysanthemum and cassia tea in my office to help with the heat. Would you like some?”
“Shut up! Stop talking and distracting me!” Su He snapped, her frustration evident.
Yu Yan felt that this junior was even more irritable than 012.
Zhou Sheqing arrived with a small box and opened it to reveal two red-topped vials.
“These are medications developed by the Zhou family’s lab specifically for the virus in Zhou Xiangcheng’s body. They should work for him as well.”
Zhou Sheqing maintained her usual aloof, ice-cold demeanor, and didn’t even glance at Yu Yan as she spoke to Su He.
Su He’s psychological burden was greatly alleviated, and she gave her friend an elated hug.
The cold medication was injected into Yu Yan’s body, and he could feel the pain and burning sensation within him gradually subsiding.
“This medication is already in its fifth generation, but it still can’t completely eliminate the virus in Zhou Xiangcheng’s body. It can only alleviate the symptoms, and he will likely experience relapses,” Zhou Sheqing said.
“I understand. It’s good to gain some time. I’m getting a clearer idea now; I just need more time,” Su He replied.
Under pressure, her research progress had advanced much faster than in the original plot.
“And you, just staying silent and pretending to be deaf? Nothing to say?” Zhou Sheqing finally turned her gaze toward Yu Yan, her eyes sharp as knives.
Yu Yan smiled under his respirator and coughed twice. “Thank you, Junior and Ms. Zhou Sheqing, for your help. I’ll be sure to repay you. If I’m fortunate enough to survive, I’ll do my best to assist both of you in the future.”
“Hmph, that’s probably just empty words. Anyone can say nice things,” Zhou Sheqing scoffed, her disdain evident as she looked at him.
Yu Yan replied, “If I don’t make it, you can split my inheritance.”
Zhou Sheqing sneered, “Do you think I’d be interested in your money?”
Su He said, “…” but found herself slightly tempted.
Maybe, maybe they shouldn’t save him? After all, their past relationship hadn’t been great.
Yu Yan coughed again, signaling the proud and wealthy Ms. Zhou to look at her friend’s expression.
Su He laughed awkwardly and said insincerely, “I wouldn’t deliberately harm him just to get his inheritance.”
“Really!” she emphasized.
Suddenly, a loud crash came from outside, startling Zhou Sheqing.
“What’s happening?” She turned to look at the other two, who appeared unperturbed.
“012 has started causing a commotion again,” Su He said.
It was likely that the effects of the stimulant hadn’t worn off yet. Today, 012 was particularly agitated, often making sudden noises.
Each time 012 made a commotion, Su He was on edge, remembering the destroyed isolation boxes.
“He’s been acting up several times this afternoon. Every time Senior goes to check on him, he stops,” Su He said, showing signs of frustration. “Just before you arrived, Senior had been there. How could he start up again so quickly?”
The unfortunate Senior Kang had become so ill that he could barely move. Su He had to push his wheelchair to get him there.
Yu Yan had a suspicion about why 012 was acting up again.
It was possible that the Junior, feeling guilty, had spoken too loudly and 012 had heard.
Considering the increase in 012’s affection value and his frequent demands for attention, Yu Yan had reason to believe that the bat-like creature had been keeping an eye on him.
“Every time he goes to check, 012 stops acting up?” Zhou Sheqing asked skeptically.
She turned and headed outside, “I’ll go take a look.”
Su He, worried about Zhou Sheqing being harmed by the agitated 012, wanted to follow but instead turned back to push Yu Yan’s wheelchair.
“Get on, calming master.”
Yu Yan slowly got up.
He recalled that Ms. Zhou had some special feelings toward 012 and felt a bit uneasy.
On the way to the isolation room, Su He whispered to him, “Tone it down. Don’t provoke Sheqing, especially don’t flirt with 012 in front of her.”
Yu Yan responded, “?”
What flirting? Don’t spread rumors.
012 was still in the three-layer isolation box, though the innermost layer had already been breached.
Zhou Sheqing stood outside the isolation box, bending over to attempt communication with 012.
“Do you remember me? I’m Zhou Sheqing.”
“How are you feeling now?”
“Why are you willing to… I don’t understand.”
012’s gaze had always been indifferent; no one could discern emotion from his pale eyes.
He had always been like this, never changing, regardless of how he was treated. He merely looked at them with an indifferent stare, reflecting the blood on their hands.
Zhou Sheqing had seen 012 when she was 16, during a lab visit. Over the following decade, she had tried to communicate with him, participated in research projects about him, and eventually saw him enter Zhou Xiangcheng’s lab.
Having observed and studied him for so long, Zhou Sheqing was unclear about her own feelings.
She just felt that no one in the world could possess 012; he would never be changed by anyone.
But now, within just two months, how could that man achieve this?
012’s gaze did not acknowledge her and did not cease its actions because of her words.
Zhou Sheqing felt a deep sense of frustration and stubbornness.
Suddenly, 012 quieted down. Zhou Sheqing heard the sound of a wheelchair and turned to see Yu Yan arriving.
Just as Su He had said, upon seeing Yu Yan, 012 stopped his commotion. This strong sense of purpose indicated that he wanted to see this man.
Zhou Sheqing felt a strong sense of defeat. She stepped back and leaned against the wall with a blank expression.
Su He observed her friend’s expression, hesitating before pushing the wheelchair to the isolation box.
Yu Yan knocked helplessly on the isolation box. “What are you making a fuss about now?”
012 stared at his pale lips. “You’re going to die.”
Yu Yan replied, “Not just yet.”
He glanced at 012’s emotion indicator and added, “For now, there’s no need to worry.”
“You often lie. I can’t distinguish the truth from your words,” 012 said.
Yu Yan responded, “Whether I live or die isn’t up to me. Look at this sister here; she’s dealing with your mess and trying to save me. You should thank her.”
Su He’s expression was as wooden as her friend’s.
I told you not to flirt with him, but you still flirt with him, huh?
012 ignored Yu Yan and turned his gaze to Su He, scrutinizing her. “Will you save him?”
Talking to 012 was a strange experience.
Su He had been studying the virus on him and frequently visited Yu Yan’s lab, but she had never conversed with him before.
Initially, 012 ignored everyone. Su He couldn’t remember when it started, but eventually, Yu Yan managed to pry open 012’s mouth. While 012 occasionally responded to Yu Yan, he mostly continued to ignore any communication.
This was the first time Su He faced an S-class experimental subject directly, feeling as if she was on equal footing.
She replied earnestly, “I will do my best.”
If only both of you would cooperate properly!
If you keep causing trouble and damaging the isolation box, I might as well just shove Senior in there with you!
