Chapter 355 – Her name was—Xu Aining!

The female teacher was named Ning Di, an English name, and gave them lessons in standard English.

The impression she left was not only due to her having a face similar to theirs but also because of her remarkable skills in medicine.

Song Yi even took the time to learn more about Teacher Ning Di’s story.

He discovered that she and her family were from Country A and still lived there. They had settled in Country A several decades ago.

Originally, they were from their home country.

According to the magazine, Teacher Ning Di was a person with exceptional talent in medicine. She had completed her studies at a young age and continued further education.

Now, she was the honorary director of a renowned hospital in Country A. From her youth to retirement, it was unknown how many people she had saved with her hands and surgical knife.

Although she was retired now, her status in Country A’s medical field remained high.

The reason she still occasionally taught at the school where Song Yi was studying was that it was her alma mater, and she was there to give back to her school.

Everyone respected Teacher Ning Di. Many young medical students even revered her as a figure of faith.

In the past half-month, although Song Yi had attended only three of Teacher Ning Di’s classes, he was deeply impressed by her teaching style and extensive knowledge.

Sometimes, Song Yi felt a sense of familiarity and warmth when looking at Teacher Ning Di, even finding her somewhat familiar.

However, Song Yi thought this might be because the blood flowing through Teacher Ning Di was the same as his own.

In fact, Song Yi had always wanted to find an opportunity to speak with Teacher Ning Di and ask her questions, but he had not succeeded so far.

Teacher Ning Di left as soon as the class was over; she did not live on campus.

Immediately after class, she was picked up by a car.

Song Yi sighed inwardly, wishing he could have the chance to run into Teacher Ning Di by chance.

However, Song Yi always felt that Teacher Ning Di treated those of them studying abroad from China with special favor.

He had heard that Teacher Ning Di liked students with a talent for medicine, and Song Yi thought he needed to continue studying hard, hoping to catch her attention and learn more from her.

Of course, it would be even better if he could become her disciple.

For now, though, Song Yi could only dream about it.

The immediate priority was to complete his current studies.

Whether he could catch Teacher Ning Di’s eye and become her student would have to wait.

After all, Song Yi was self-aware. While he was one of the few exceptional young talents in his home country, here in Country A, there were many students from various countries, all highly intelligent and talented.

Song Yi was just one among many.

But blending into the crowd was not Song Yi’s goal. Since he had temporarily separated from his wife to study abroad, he was determined to achieve outstanding results before returning.

So, he needed to keep working hard.

At that moment, Teacher Ning Di, whom Song Yi wished to get closer to, was in her own villa.

She sat on the sofa, her magazine resting on her lap, but she was not reading it. Instead, she gazed out the window with a sorrowful expression, lost in thought.

At that moment, her husband, Hans, approached her from behind and gently embraced her. His voice was tender as he asked, “Ning Di, what are you thinking about?”

Ning Di snapped out of her reverie and took her husband’s hand. “Hans, do you know that recently a group of international students arrived, including some from China?”

“China? That’s the country you were born in.”

“Yes, not only is it where I was born, but it also has my closest family—my parents, my brother, and my sister…”

“We share the same blood.”

As she spoke, Ning Di’s eyes reddened, and tears began to fall.

“Hans, no matter how long I’ve been away, that place will always be my root. I… I…”

“You want to go back, Ning Di. I know.”

“Yes, I want to go back. I want to find my parents, my brother, and my sister.”

Seeing the students from her homeland had stirred her homesickness and longing for her family, leaving Ning Di feeling quite melancholic recently.

When she was younger and busy with life, she could distract herself. But now, retired and older, she found herself missing her homeland more acutely and becoming more sentimental.

Ning Di wanted to return, but she knew that given her current status, it would be very difficult to do so.

Country A would not easily allow her to leave.

But she missed her family, her homeland, and her blood relatives so much.

She was old and didn’t know how many more years she had left. If she didn’t go to find her relatives now, she might never have another chance.

In that case, she feared she might never be able to close her eyes in peace.

“If you want to go back, then go back. Ning Di, I support you.”

“But I want to go back with you.”

“Hans…”

Ning Di took her husband’s hand.

“I will find a way. I won’t let you have regrets.”

“Hans, thank you.” Ning Di embraced her husband, tears falling once more.

This time, her tears were from being touched by her husband’s love.

In truth, Ning Di felt she was fortunate.

When she was very young and there was a famine, and her parents couldn’t keep her and her sister, she was sent to a very good family.

She knew her parents didn’t send her away lightly; they carefully chose the families for her and her sister.

And it proved to be true. Her adoptive family treated her very well, both in terms of their financial condition and in other aspects.

However, Ning Di hadn’t expected that later, her adoptive family would move abroad.

At that time, she was too young to understand anything or do anything about it. She could only follow her adoptive parents abroad, and eventually settle in Country A.

And that settlement lasted for decades.

In those decades, she grew up in Country A, studying, getting married, having children, working, and eventually retiring.

In the blink of an eye, decades had passed, and time had flown by.

Although her childhood memories were vague and distant, Ning Di had never forgotten them for a moment.

Her adoptive family was her family, and her biological parents, as well as her loving brother and sister, were also her family.

In the quiet of the night, she often dreamt of her parents across the ocean, calling out to her.

They would say—

“Xiao Ning, come home. Your parents miss you.”

“Xiao Ning, your brother and sister miss you too.”

“Xiao Ning, wherever you are, don’t forget to come home.”

Home, home…

Now, these two words had become an obsession for Ning Di.

She always remembered that her real name was not Ning Di.

She had her own surname and given name.

Her name was—Xu Aining!

  1. “Country A would not easily allow her to leave.”
Bullshit unless it’s a country like China or North Korea.

    1. Yeah, and considering her husband’s name is “Hans”, shows it could be a European country. Most likely Eastern, but thinking of the times they might be in Britain.
