Chapter 417 – That person was found!
“Okay.”
Shen Huai left, and Lin Wangshu lay on the sofa, staring in the direction Shen Huai had gone. She gazed for a long time before her heart finally calmed down.
When Shen Huai had entered earlier, he made no sound at all.
When he suddenly spoke, it really startled her.
Fortunately, she had burned the letter just in time; otherwise, it would have been disastrous if Shen Huai had seen it. She just didn’t know if Shen Huai was suspicious.
He probably wasn’t.
For the rest of the time, Lin Wangshu kept an eye on Shen Huai’s movements, either intentionally or unintentionally.
She needed to figure out who Shen Huai was looking for.
Only by figuring that out could she know what to do next.
*
Meanwhile, over on Xu Jinning’s side, when she confirmed that the letter had reached Lin Wangshu and that Lin Wangshu had burned it without telling Shen Huai, a knowing look flashed in her eyes.
She could roughly guess that Lin Wangshu, or rather Xu Jinwen, would do this after seeing the letter.
Because what Xu Jinwen loved most was herself, after all.
So, she had to make sure Shen Huai wouldn’t harm her before taking the next step.
As for the metaphysical master…
Because she had provided the clues, Xie Ting’an and the others had already found the master in advance.
And they had passed on the master’s whereabouts to Shen Huai’s people.
She believed that Shen Huai would soon come to meet this Master Long Ming.
In the dream’s development, Shen Huai wouldn’t have found this master for a while, but now they had helped him find him sooner.
Shen Huai, Shen Huai, don’t let her down.
Xu Jinning silently thought to herself.
Over the next two days, Xu Jinning waited while continuing to teach at Hong Kong University. Her days passed fairly well.
*
“Found him? Are you sure it’s him?”
“Alright, I understand. Make the arrangements; I’ll go over this afternoon.”
“…”
While eating at the dining table, Lin Wangshu glanced sideways at Shen Huai, who was on the phone.
Just moments ago, the phone had suddenly rung, and Lin Wangshu had intended to answer it, but Shen Huai got to it first.
Then, she heard this conversation.
Although Shen Huai had lowered his voice, she still caught what he said.
‘Found him?’
These two words made Lin Wangshu’s heart skip a beat.
Was it that so-called master of metaphysics?
Was Shen Huai really planning to transfer her good fortune to himself?
For a moment, complex emotions surged within her, and she lost her appetite.
Shen Huai didn’t talk on the phone for long before hanging up and returning to the dining table.
Although he didn’t say anything, Lin Wangshu could clearly sense the hidden excitement and enthusiasm within him.
“Ahuai, who was that on the phone just now? Is something up?” Lin Wangshu asked, looking up at him.
Shen Huai seemed to come back to his senses and replied, “It’s nothing, just a business deal I need to discuss this afternoon.”
“Oh, I see.”
“By the way, Shushu, do you have any plans for this afternoon?”
“No, my belly has gotten bigger lately, making it a bit inconvenient to move around. I was planning to rest at home.”
“Yes, you should rest more. When I come back, I’ll bring you something delicious.”
“Okay, thank you, Ahuai.” Lin Wangshu smiled gratefully at Shen Huai, but as she lowered her head to continue eating, her eyes grew cold.
She had heard everything.
It wasn’t about any business deal at all!
Shen Huai was lying to her!
He had found someone and was going to meet that person this afternoon, yet he lied to her about discussing business.
So, was it the metaphysics master that Xu Jinning mentioned?
There was only one way to find out—by going to see for herself.
At this moment, that was exactly what Lin Wangshu intended to do.
She figured that if she wanted to know who Shen Huai was going to meet, she should just follow him and see.
After finishing her meal, Lin Wangshu went upstairs.
Although she headed upstairs, she kept a close eye on Shen Huai’s movements.
Shen Huai seemed eager to meet this person, so shortly after eating, and before the afternoon had even arrived, he hurriedly got ready to leave.
Lin Wangshu slipped out through the back door and circled around to the front.
She watched as Shen Huai got into his car. Without missing a beat, Lin Wangshu also got into another car, one that she had arranged just a couple of days ago.
Shen Huai likely thought that, being heavily pregnant, she wouldn’t be able to do much. So, aside from reminding her to stay safe and avoid being manipulated by the Shen family, he didn’t impose many restrictions on her.
When Lin Wangshu saw Xu Jinning’s letter and realized who Shen Huai was looking for, she knew that one day, she might need to follow him.
Shen Huai had his own car, but she didn’t.
So, she needed a car to follow him.
Two days ago, she had paid a high price to hire a car specifically for moments like this, to track Shen Huai.
After lunch, while Shen Huai was in the bathroom, she quickly used the living room phone to contact the driver of this car.
That’s how the car was able to be parked nearby, ready for her to hop in and follow Shen Huai when he left.
Not wanting Shen Huai to notice, Lin Wangshu instructed the driver to keep a safe distance.
After driving for forty minutes, the road became increasingly remote until Shen Huai’s car finally entered a secluded area filled with many small houses.
Realizing they were nearing the destination, Lin Wangshu asked the driver to stay even farther back.
From a distance, she saw Shen Huai’s car come to a stop. He then opened the car door and entered one of the small houses.
“Driver, wait here for me.”
Lin Wangshu also got out of the car, instructing the driver to stay put so that she would have a way to leave when she was done.
She then made her way toward the small house.
The door to the house was closed.
Of course, even if it weren’t, she couldn’t just walk right in—she had no intention of being caught by Shen Huai.
So…
Lin Wangshu decided to walk around the house, hoping to find a spot where she might be able to overhear the conversation inside.
As it turned out, luck was on her side.
When she reached a window, she could hear faint voices coming from within.
She immediately stopped, turned sideways, and pressed her ear against the wall.
The previously unclear voices gradually became more distinct.
At first, it wasn’t Shen Huai’s voice she heard but an unfamiliar, elderly voice speaking about Shen Huai’s situation.
It seemed this person knew all about Shen Huai.
Then, Lin Wangshu heard the person say, “I know why you’ve come to see me today, but you may be disappointed. That woman is not someone you can covet. If you do, it will only lead to your destruction.”
That woman? Was he talking about her?
Was it possible that Shen Huai couldn’t covet her fortune without bringing about his own downfall?
If that were the case, it would be a relief.
But as Shen Huai spoke next, Lin Wangshu realized that the woman wasn’t her.
“That woman, Xu Jinning, I can’t touch her at all? But she’s stolen the fortune that belonged to me and my wife. I need to take it back!”
“That’s not something that ever belonged to you; it’s hers.”
