Chapter 148: You Still Listen to Junior Sister

In the dark of the night, two figures appeared within the Wuyue Immortal Sect, at Bai Feishuang’s Songxi Residence.

“Senior Brother, if you don’t want to offer tea to the Sect Master, that’s fine. I don’t want to see him either. But since we’re already here, it’s our wedding day—surely we can’t skip inviting Senior Sister for a drink,” said Yu Le.

Because of Yu Le’s words, Mo Cunzhi ended up accompanying him there.

The sect of the past was no longer his home. The once-familiar places had all become strange.

Being a member of the Demonic Path, sneaking in during the night, Mo Cunzhi felt somewhat uneasy.

However, when he looked at Yu Le, the Lord of the Demonic Path, he seemed completely at ease, as if this was his own territory, showing not the slightest hint of guilt.

“Senior Sister, Senior Sister? I’ve come to see you,” Yu Le called out twice, then turned around in frustration and said, “It seems like Senior Sister isn’t here.”

Mo Cunzhi wasn’t sure whether to feel regret or relief. “Since she’s not here, let’s leave.”

But Yu Le said, “Since we’ve come all this way, how can we just leave like that?”

Mo Cunzhi immediately grabbed his wrist, fearing that he might cause trouble, and warned in a low voice, “Don’t act recklessly.”

Yu Le grinned. “What are you afraid of? This is our home. Do you think I’m going to start killing people here?”

Mo Cunzhi: “…”

Yu Le didn’t actually plan to cause any trouble. Since Senior Sister wasn’t around, he decided to visit Senior Brother Meng Qing, with whom he had a good relationship.

Mo Cunzhi recalled that this Junior Brother Meng was a reasonable person. Even if he couldn’t accept Yu Le’s identity, he probably wouldn’t draw his sword the moment he saw him.

So, Mo Cunzhi didn’t stop him. But when they reached Meng Qing’s Xiaoyao Peak, they found it empty as well.

“What’s going on? Senior Sister and Senior Brother are both not here,” Yu Le muttered, rubbing his chin in confusion.

“Let’s go find someone to ask,” Yu Le said.

However, they didn’t need to search far, as they overheard some disciples discussing the matter.

“The Shangshan Xie family’s decline is truly lamentable. In such a short time, they’ve fallen to this extent. I wonder if they’ll survive this crisis.”

“They surely will. Our Senior Sister Feishuang and Senior Brother Meng Qing have both gone to the Xie family to help. They’ll definitely find the one causing the trouble.”

“I bet it’s the work of a demonic cultivator. If Senior Brother was still here…”

“Watch your words! If someone hears you, you’ll be punished!”

The Shangshan Xie family—the same family of the three Xie brothers, Xie Que, Xie Ji, and Xie Xun—seemed to be in some trouble, and both Senior Sister and Senior Brother had gone to help.

“Let’s go, Senior Brother. Let’s join the fun,” Yu Le said, pulling Mo Cunzhi along.

Mo Cunzhi had anticipated this. “What about the wedding ceremony? Are we not holding it?”

Without thinking, Yu Le replied, “We’ll hold it at the Xie family’s place.”

A wedding ceremony at the Xie family’s residence? That was absurd.

Mo Cunzhi sighed silently. He had known all along that when his junior brother said he wanted to marry him, he wasn’t being serious.

The once-glorious Xie family of Shangshan had long since fallen. The mansion, now desolate, resembled a dying elder struggling to hold on. The black walls and tall, imposing buildings looked weathered and exhausted.

New and old funeral banners and scattered paper money were everywhere, a sign that more than one person had recently died here.

Seeing this, the first thing Yu Le said was, “This place doesn’t seem very suitable for a wedding.”

Mo Cunzhi was more familiar with the place than Yu Le. Back when he and Xie Ji were friends, he had visited here several times. The decline of the Xie family felt even more profound to him. They were truly on the verge of collapse.

If they could sneak into the Wuyue Immortal Sect, the Xie family posed no challenge—it was like entering an unguarded realm.

Thanks to Yu Le’s cultivation, they quickly found Bai Feishuang and Meng Qing.

They were discussing matters in a guest room. After talking about the troubles facing the Xie family, the conversation suddenly shifted, as if by coincidence, to Senior Brother and Junior Brother.

“I heard that over in the Demonic Path, Junior Brother has become the new Lord of the Demonic Path and even held a grand wedding ceremony to marry Senior Brother as his Dao companion.”

“It’s probably happening in the next few days. What a pity we won’t get to drink at their wedding.”

Suddenly, the window swung open with a bang, revealing Yu Le’s beaming face. “No need to feel regret, Senior Sister. We’ve come to invite you for a drink at our wedding!”

Bai Feishuang and Meng Qing were startled. When they looked more closely, they saw Junior Brother smiling at them from outside the window, with Senior Brother standing right behind him.

Although the two now held different roles, they looked just as they always had.

Bai Feishuang was overjoyed. “Senior Brother! Junior Brother! What brings you both here?”

“We’ve come to invite Senior Sister and Senior Brother to our wedding,” Yu Le said, hopping into the room.

“Junior Sister, Junior Brother Meng, it’s been a while,” Mo Cunzhi greeted, though much less casually than Yu Le.

Bai Feishuang and Meng Qing respectfully greeted him as they always had, still calling him Senior Brother.

“Seeing that Senior Brother is doing well brings me great comfort,” Bai Feishuang remarked, carefully studying Mo Cunzhi’s expression.

Gone were the loneliness and repression he used to carry. Instead, there was an unprecedented calm about him, with restrained yet lively eyes—a sign that he was doing well.

Meng Qing was also watching Yu Le, but his expression was more complex. After a long moment of hesitation, he finally asked, “Junior Brother, are you doing well these days?”

Yu Le grinned. “I’m doing fine. I just couldn’t find anyone familiar to share a drink with at my wedding, so I came looking for you, Senior Sister and Senior Brother.”

“You still think of us,” Meng Qing sighed. “Junior Brother, I never had the chance to ask you—did you join the Demonic Path because of your family’s revenge?”

Yu Le had no idea what family vendetta Meng Qing was referring to, but that didn’t stop him from calmly nodding in agreement. “Yes,” he said.

“As I thought,” Meng Qing exhaled deeply. “So, does the Xie family’s current situation have anything to do with you?”

Yu Le thought, ‘What does that have to do with me?’

Without a trace of panic, he responded, “Although I hold some hatred in my heart, with Senior Brother by my side and my days so carefree, I wouldn’t go out of my way to target them.”

Yu Le casually brushed off Senior Brother Meng’s suspicions, but suddenly, shouts erupted from outside, and the sounds of a fight broke out.

Inside, Bai Feishuang and Meng Qing had no time to continue their conversation. They quickly rushed outside to help.

Mo Cunzhi instinctively moved to follow, but Yu Le wrapped an arm around his neck and pulled him back.

“Senior Brother, do you know what Meng Qing meant by ‘family vendetta’?”

Mo Cunzhi was surprised. “You don’t know?”

Yu Le shook his head. “No idea.”

“Then why did you join the Demonic Path?” Mo Cunzhi asked.

“Do you need a reason to become a demonic cultivator?” Yu Le replied.

Mo Cunzhi said, “You admitted to something you didn’t even understand?”

Yu Le smiled. “Senior Brother had already come up with an excuse. Why wouldn’t I go along with it?”

He was considerate like that.

Mo Cunzhi could only explain to him:

“A year ago, Senior Sister said she had discovered the reason you joined the Demonic Path.”

“Your family, which had the bloodline of the Phoenix Clan, possessed treasures coveted by others. Several families joined forces to suppress and destroy them.”

“You were the only one who survived, still young and with weak cultivation, and were fortunate enough to be taken in by Uncle Qin, who named you Yu Rui and brought you to the Wuyue Immortal Sect to be raised.”

Yu Le understood. “So they think I became a demonic cultivator for revenge?”

Mo Cunzhi silently confirmed this.

“Could it be that the Xie family was one of the families that helped suppress mine back then?” Yu Le quickly realized why Meng Qing had asked him that earlier.

With the Xie family in trouble now, Senior Brother Meng suspected it was Yu Le’s revenge.

Even the original Yu Rui’s master, Qin Haoran, who had doted on him for so many years, was someone Yu Le now suspected of having a hidden motive.

It was probably due to guilt. The Qin family, where Qin Haoran hailed from, was also a prominent clan, and it was likely they were involved in the events that led to the downfall of Yu Rui’s family.

The original Yu Rui had been clueless about all this, and Yu Le had even less interest in family feuds. Still, he couldn’t help but feel a bit pleased at the Xie family’s misfortune.

“Come on, Senior Brother, let’s go watch the fun.”

What was supposed to be the day of their wedding ceremony turned into a night where Mo Cunzhi and his Junior Brother found themselves at the Xie family estate, observing their efforts to capture a demonic cultivator.

This demonic cultivator had killed more than ten people in the Xie family over the course of half a month. The Xie family, already plagued by internal conflicts, had to request help from disciples of several sects. Tonight, they had finally cornered the culprit for a final showdown.

The battlefield was filled with demonic energy, the scene chaotic and intense.

“There are others watching too,” Yu Le remarked, pulling two hidden figures out from the shadows.

It was Xie Xun and Qi Ling.

Xie Xun, the last surviving of the three Xie brothers, now lived with Qi Ling in the Demonic Path. Unable to cultivate immortality, he had eventually turned to demonic cultivation to save his own life, though he still looked frail and sickly.

Yu Le had encountered them a few times under Su Yugou’s command. Curious, he asked, “I’m hosting a grand wedding ceremony with the Queen for seven days, and all of the Demonic Path is celebrating. Why didn’t you attend, and instead come here?”

He asked with such straightforwardness that it made it impossible to question his own presence in a place he technically shouldn’t have been.

“Lord Yu, we heard about the trouble in the Xie family and came to take a look,” Xie Xun replied.

Additionally, he had recently retrieved the body of his second brother, who had never liked demonic cultivators during his life, and intended to return it to the Xie family for burial. But he didn’t feel the need to explain that to the demon lord.

Xie Xun was different from his two brothers. After a moment’s thought, Yu Le glanced at him, then waved him off, allowing him to leave.

The demonic cultivator causing trouble in the Xie family was actually someone who had fled the Demonic Path during Yu Le’s fight with Xie Que. This individual held a grudge against Xie Que, and though he hadn’t dared to retaliate while Xie Que was alive, he had now come to stir up chaos after his death.

In the end, the disciples from various sects managed to capture and kill the demonic cultivator on the spot.

When Bai Feishuang and Meng Qing returned, Senior Brother Meng hesitantly asked, “Was that demonic cultivator one of yours, Junior Brother?”

“I’m not sure. I have so many demonic cultivators under me, how could I possibly recognize them all?” Yu Le replied dismissively. Ever since he had become the leader of the Demonic Path, it felt to him like completing a game—his interest had faded.

“From now on, everything related to the Demonic Path will be handled by Senior Brother.”

Mo Cunzhi frowned, surprised by this unexpected arrangement.

Hearing this, Bai Feishuang and Meng Qing both seemed relieved.

“We haven’t yet congratulated Senior Brother and Junior Brother on your union. Now that this matter is resolved, we’d like to enjoy a cup of celebratory wine,” Bai Feishuang said.

Meng Qing added, “Indeed, I’ve brought some medicinal wine I brewed myself. It would be the perfect gift for Senior Brother and Junior Brother’s wedding.”

Yu Le suddenly chimed in, “Then why don’t we just hold the wedding here at the Xie family estate? It’ll save us the trouble of finding another location.”

The other three fell silent.

After a long pause, Meng Qing awkwardly chuckled, “Junior Brother, you must be joking?”

Yu Le, however, was genuinely unfazed by the idea of holding a wedding in the home of an enemy who was in the middle of hosting a funeral.

With his current cultivation level, he could do whatever he pleased.

Bai Feishuang intervened, “There are too many people here, and the atmosphere is heavy with grief. How about we go to the lakeside, find a boat, and enjoy some drinks there?”

Yu Le quickly changed his mind. “Alright, let’s do what Senior Sister suggests.”

Mo Cunzhi, who had been ready to step in and stop him, remained silent when he saw how obedient Yu Le was being.

As they were leaving the Xie family estate, Mo Cunzhi glanced at his junior sister’s retreating figure and softly said, “You’re still so obedient to Junior Sister.”

Walking beside him, Yu Le replied leisurely, “Feeling jealous? Good. You should be.”

Mo Cunzhi didn’t want to feel jealous of his own junior sister; reason told him that Yu Le harbored no romantic feelings for her, and he was doing it on purpose.

However, he still felt uncomfortable, which led to a silence between them as they walked.

Yu Le suddenly stopped by the roadside and bought a deep blue sword tassel from a stall, attaching it to Mo Cunzhi’s sword.

“This is for you, Senior Brother,” he said.

It resembled the one he had given him before. Mo Cunzhi grasped the tassel tightly, holding Yu Le’s hand along with it.

As they passed by a clothing shop, Yu Le recalled the wedding dress that Xiao Niang had specially crafted. With a knowing tone, he leaned closer and whispered to Mo Cunzhi, “What a pity you won’t get to wear the wedding dress.”

Mo Cunzhi pulled him away from the entrance of the shop, unaware of what he had missed.

The wedding dress Yu Le had placed in the Demon Palace’s chambers didn’t fit him; it was made perfectly for Yu Le.

But he thought it was just a playful gesture by Yu Le, never having taken a closer look.

“You didn’t notice it yourself, so you can’t blame me,” Yu Le muttered.

He had been willing to tease his senior brother during the wedding, but it was his senior brother who had missed the opportunity.

The boat carried the four of them downstream, and Yu Le raised his cup, clinking it against Mo Cunzhi’s.

“Even though you didn’t wear a wedding dress, with the moon as witness, we are now husband and wife from today onward.”

Both their cups reflected a bright moon, and a slight smile appeared in Mo Cunzhi’s eyes as he asked, “So, who is the husband and who is the wife?”

Without hesitation, Yu Le replied, “Of course, I am the husband and you are the wife!”

Mo Cunzhi didn’t argue with him. Instead, he placed Yu Le’s palm on his knee and slowly drank the cup of wine.

As the bright moon faded and the morning sun rose, many uncertainties still lingered in the air. However, one thing was certain: he and Yu Le would be entangled with each other from then on.

Yu Le wouldn’t let him go.

And neither would he.
