Chapter 149: The Yu Brothers’ Modern Life: Little Fifth’s Puppy Love
Mo Cunzhi opened his eyes on the large hotel bed, instinctively raising a hand to press on his sore and aching forehead.
He heard some rustling sounds beside him, causing him to pause and turn his head to look.
On the pale back in front of him were messy, ambiguous red marks, partially covered by a black T-shirt.
A lean young man, with his back to him, was putting on clothes.
In an instant, memories flooded back into Mo Cunzhi’s mind, recalling the chaotic night.
It was as if he had been struck by lightning. He suddenly sat up in bed, startled by the marks on his own body.
The young man who had just finished dressing by the bed heard the movement and glanced back.
Only then did Mo Cunzhi realize that the boy seemed even younger than he had imagined. His innocent face was adorned with a pair of sly, cat-like eyes.
When those eyes curved slightly, they looked both adorable and carried a certain dangerous mischief.
Yu Le looked at the dumbfounded man on the bed, chuckled, picked up a cap from the bedside, put it on, and said cheerfully, “Good morning! I’m off now.”
As if nothing had happened, he stepped over the scattered clothes and some used disposable items on the floor, pulled open the door, and walked out.
Mo Cunzhi finally snapped out of it. “Wait a minute! You…”
The door clicked open again, and Yu Le leaned against the doorframe, saying, “Oh, right, I forgot to tell you—I’m not even of age yet, brother.”
The door closed again, not loudly, but to Mo Cunzhi’s ears, it sounded like a rumbling thunder, freezing him in place once more.
Outside, Yu Le closed the door and laughed silently in the hallway.
Not of age? Of course, that was a lie. But it seemed like the guy believed it. His expression, as if the sky had just collapsed, was priceless.
He had the face of a classical handsome man. Last night, his clothes were worn primly, and at a glance, he seemed like someone who would never step out of line.
Ironically, Yu Le’s favorite thing was breaking the rules.
He had happily dropped a bomb and ran off, but Mo Cunzhi was now left to bear an enormous psychological burden.
As the captain of the second monitoring team at the Non-Natural Ecological Protection Bureau, Mo Cunzhi was known as the most rule-abiding officer in the department. Everything he did was by the book, and he had never once strayed from protocol.
But now, not only had he accidentally had a one-night stand, the other person turned out to be underage.
Mo Cunzhi didn’t doubt for a second that the other had lied to him. In a panic, he hurriedly dressed and tried to catch up, but couldn’t find the boy. Even after checking with the front desk, there was no record of the person in the hotel’s registration.
This unexpected incident weighed heavily on him, making him frown even more than during the grueling missions of retrieving abnormal entities.
His cold and irritable demeanor that morning caused all the staff at the Bureau to avoid greeting him as he walked by.
In the Non-Natural Ecological Protection Bureau, a mysterious department, there were three monitoring teams in total.
The first team, led by Director Yu Guang, was stationed at headquarters, while the second and third teams frequently went out on missions.
Due to the higher overall skill level of the second team, they often took on more dangerous tasks.
Naturally, Mo Cunzhi, being the captain of the second team, was the most capable of them all, able to control a team full of exceptionally talented yet difficult-to-manage members.
With a cold expression, Mo Cunzhi stormed into the office, his gaze sharp as a blade sweeping over a few grinning subordinates, quickly locking onto one of them.
“Last night, while we were surveilling the abnormal suspect at Yunye Bar, what exactly did you give me to drink?”
“Uh… tea.”
“Say that again.”
“A drink that tasted like tea but was actually alcohol! It was Li Qing who egged me on, saying we should see if you, boss, could tell the difference!”
Mo Cunzhi’s deadly gaze shifted to another person, who hurriedly explained, “I didn’t know you couldn’t handle alcohol, boss!”
Mo Cunzhi: “And then? After I got drunk, none of you looked after me?”
“We didn’t realize you were drunk at first! And then when the suspect tried to escape, we all rushed off to chase him…”
“So you just left me at that bar?” Mo Cunzhi ground his teeth.
He rolled up his sleeves and began walking towards his two guilty-looking subordinates.
“Ah! Help! He’s going to kill us!”
“Boss, I swear I won’t do it again! Aaargh!”
“Go easy! Ow!”
The office was soon filled with wails and cries. A clerk standing at the door, too scared to make a sound, finally mustered the courage to knock gently when the noise died down.
“Uh, Captain Mo? Captain Yu asked if you could submit the report on the handling of this latest abnormal entity.”
The door swung open quickly, and Mo Cunzhi, impeccably dressed with a cold, stern expression, calmly pulled down his sleeves. “Got it. I’ll handle it.”
The clerk glanced into the chaotic office behind him, where two bruised and battered team members were struggling to stand up from the floor.
As Mo Cunzhi walked out with the report, the two men, freshly beaten, began to complain. “Boss really went all out this time. I’ve never taken hits this hard, even on missions.”
The other groaned loudly, “It was just a joke! Was that necessary?”
A woman who had remained silent throughout, keeping to herself, finally lowered the magazine she had been using to shield her face. “I just noticed earlier—there were hickeys all over the boss’s neck and arms. Like, a lot. Things must have gotten pretty wild.”
Another man, who had been quietly filling out forms, spat out his tea in shock. “No way! My senior brother? Did my senior brother break his vows?!”
The two who had been complaining exchanged fearful glances, whispering, “You don’t think the boss got… picked up at the bar last night, do you?”
Who could have seen that coming? Normally, he was terrifying—a guy who could take on three or four of them at once, and even ancient beasts wouldn’t dare mess with him!
…
Meanwhile, Mo Cunzhi handed the report to Yu Guang.
Yu Guang glanced through it, noting how clear and meticulously formatted it was, a stark contrast to the reports from the third team’s captain, Yang Xiong, which always needed multiple revisions.
“Alright, case closed. You guys worked hard on this one, so take a couple of days off to rest.”
Normally, this would be the moment when Mo Cunzhi left. But this time, he hesitated, standing still, reluctant to move.
Yu Guang, puzzled, asked, “What’s wrong? Is there something else?”
Mo Cunzhi found it difficult to bring up, but as the events of last night weighed on him, he finally spoke, struggling with his words. “I’d like to ask for your help, Captain Yu, to find someone through the Skynet system.”
The Skynet system was the most comprehensive and confidential network, built with the help of supernatural ability users. It was faster and more accurate than typical means of tracking people.
Normally, it was reserved for official use only.
Yu Guang was surprised. It was true that, in this line of work, staff occasionally used their resources for personal reasons. Their jobs were unique, and as long as it wasn’t excessive, Yu Guang usually let it slide.
But seeing Mo Cunzhi mixing personal and official matters was a first.
Without prying, Yu Guang agreed readily. “Sure, who are you looking for? Do you have a name or any other information?”
As he spoke, Yu Guang opened his computer.
Mo Cunzhi furrowed his brows, trying to recall the appearance of the “underage” boy. Just as he was about to gather his thoughts and speak, he suddenly locked eyes with a familiar face on Yu Guang’s computer screen.
The boy from last night stared back at him.
Mo Cunzhi hadn’t expected the person he was looking for to appear on his superior’s computer wallpaper.
“This is…?” His throat tightened.
Yu Guang beamed, “This is my new computer wallpaper. These are all my younger brothers. My fourth brother went to help in Nanxin City recently, so before he left, we all got together and took this photo.”
Proudly, he added, “What do you think? I’ve raised all four of them pretty well, right?”
As the captain of the second team, Mo Cunzhi knew that Yu Guang’s so-called “brothers” were actually top-ranked threats listed in the Bureau’s Seer Archives.
They were called his brothers, but in reality, Yu Guang was responsible for monitoring them.
Mo Cunzhi had known this for the two years he’d worked at the Bureau but had never paid much attention to it—until today, when he realized that one of those “brothers” was the person he had been intimate with the night before.
His gaze fixated on Yu Le, who was smiling brightly in the picture, leaning on one of his brothers’ shoulders.
“This one… the youngest, right?”
“Yeah, that’s my fifth brother, Yu Le. A bit mischievous, but still a good kid!”
“He’s… not underage?” Mo Cunzhi asked, struggling to keep his voice steady as he looked at the proud expression on Yu Guang’s face.
Yu Guang chuckled, “He looks young, but no, he’s of age. He’s nineteen, been in college for two years.”
Mo Cunzhi slowly let out a breath.
“I’ll be going now.”
“Wait, weren’t you looking for someone?” Yu Guang asked.
“…I think it’s best not to use Skynet for personal matters,” Mo Cunzhi replied, hurriedly leaving Yu Guang’s office.
He paused for a moment in the hallway, then headed toward the classified archives.
The archives contained information on most of the abnormal and dangerous individuals identified by the Seer.
Yu Guang’s four brothers had their files stored together, in the most secure section of the archive.
Mo Cunzhi used his captain’s clearance to unlock the cabinet and took out the file.
He flipped open the first page, which featured a man with a cold, noble demeanor. The name “Yu Mo” was followed by a code name: “The Priest.”
Mo Cunzhi didn’t dwell on it and quickly turned to the last page.
“Yu Le.”
The person in the photo looked even younger than he did now.
Mo Cunzhi rarely paid attention to people’s appearances. One of his team members, who was a fan of girl group idols, often waved around pictures of different girls, calling them “cute,” but Mo Cunzhi could never understand the fascination.
However, the first word that popped into his mind when he saw Yu Le’s picture was “cute.”
Next to Yu Le’s name were two code names: “The Demon” and “The Trickster.”
In the world predicted by the Seer, Yu Le wasn’t known by his real name. “Demon” and “Trickster” were his true names.
The file contained the specific details of the Demon Trickster’s deeds, but they were classified and required Yu Guang’s level of clearance to access.
Even from the brief event codes listed, it was clear that Yu Le was a lawless, audacious, and arrogant criminal, utterly reckless in his actions.
Mo Cunzhi struggled to reconcile this file with the Yu Le he had seen in person.
He returned the file to the cabinet, closing the future that belonged to another world.
Mo Cunzhi had initially thought that, once he found Yu Le, he would either apologize or have a conversation, taking responsibility for what had happened.
But now that he knew Yu Le’s true identity, he was at a loss for what to do.
…
Lately, the atmosphere in the second team’s office had been shrouded in a heavy, oppressive cloud. The two who felt guilty for causing trouble didn’t dare make a sound and spent every day keeping a low profile.
The other two, who had stumbled upon the secret, also kept quiet, only noticing how their captain seemed increasingly sullen and troubled each day.

At the entrance of the small white building belonging to the Non-Natural Ecological Protection Bureau, Yu Le leaned against the registration window, waving a folder. “My brother, Director Yu from your Bureau, asked me to deliver something.”
Yu Guang soon received the message and came out to meet him. “I asked our second brother to deliver this. Why are you here, Little Fifth?”
“Second Brother had something at school and left early. I was the only one at home, so I had to come.” Yu Le handed over the documents but didn’t leave. Instead, he followed his elder brother inside, curiously looking around.
Yu Guang didn’t mind, letting him tag along. Without a proper work ID, all Yu Le could see was a rather ordinary office building.
“Big Brother, I’m almost on vacation. Can I go to Nanxin City to visit Fourth Brother?” Yu Le asked, for what felt like the hundredth time.
Ever since their fourth brother, Yu Shi, had gone to Nanxin City to monitor the Feng family’s abnormal entity, Yu Le had been eager to go there.
Yu Guang responded firmly, “No way. Your fourth brother is doing serious work. You’re not going there to cause trouble.”
“Third Brother is always busy, Second Brother doesn’t talk much, and with Fourth Brother away, I’m bored at home.”
Yu Le was genuinely bored. If things continued this way, he feared he might end up doing something mischievous.
It seemed Yu Guang could sense his unsaid thoughts because he placed a firm hand on Yu Le’s head and ruffled his hair. “Bored, huh? Next time, I’ll take you to train!”
“Ow! Big Brother, you’re too rough!” Yu Le ducked out from under his hand and quickly walked away, joking, “Forget it, then.”
Instead of heading to the exit, Yu Le wandered around the building. He thought to himself, ‘Is this where Big Brother works? It doesn’t seem that special. Why doesn’t Second Brother want me coming here?’
At a corner, Yu Le almost bumped into someone.
“Hmm?”
“It’s you!”
Both spoke at the same time.
Yu Le quickly glanced around, relieved when he didn’t see his eldest brother. Mo Cunzhi, however, grabbed his arm firmly, as if afraid he might run away.
“I need to talk to you,” Mo Cunzhi said.
Yu Le, now calm, looked at him with interest. “You work here too? What do you want to talk about?”
There were few people around, but it wasn’t completely empty. Mo Cunzhi pulled Yu Le into a nearby conference room.
“I want to talk about what happened last time,” Mo Cunzhi said, his tone serious. “You’re not underage.”
“Nope, I’m not underage. But you were so rough. I had marks all over me, had to scrub for ages, and it hurt. So, I lied—what’s wrong with that?” Yu Le replied nonchalantly.
Mo Cunzhi was momentarily speechless. “…I’m sorry.”
Yu Le, noticing Mo Cunzhi’s reddened neck, smiled mischievously. He stood up and perched on the armrest of Mo Cunzhi’s chair, as though he’d found something entertaining. “Have you been looking for me all this time?”
Mo Cunzhi shifted uncomfortably, trying to create some distance. “Sit down properly.”
The more Mo Cunzhi tried to distance himself, the more daring Yu Le became. He casually slung an arm over Mo Cunzhi’s shoulder. “If you have something to say, say it quickly. I’ve got to get back to class.”
Mo Cunzhi brushed his hand away and, after a brief pause, looked up at him seriously. “My name is Mo Cunzhi, I work at the Non-Natural Ecological Protection Bureau, and about what happened last time, I…”
Before he could finish, Yu Le suddenly leaned in and kissed him, a quick, teasing peck on the lips.
Mo Cunzhi froze, stunned into silence.
Amused, Yu Le wrapped an arm around his neck and kissed him deeply.
“Little Fifth, drop off the documents and get back home. Don’t hang around at my workplace.”
Yu Guang opened the door just as the two inside hastily pulled apart from their kiss.
Even though they were quick, Yu Guang still saw them.
The dependable and competent Captain Mo stood there stiffly, his neck flushed red, while Yu Guang’s mischievous youngest brother licked his lips innocently.
The bright, cheerful smile on Yu Guang’s face slowly faded.
