Chapter 51: Buying Clothes
As the largest city in the surrounding area, Shifang City’s marketplace was well-stocked, with shops on either side selling all kinds of goods.
There were pills, talismans, magic tools, and array discs—everything one could need.
As they passed by a clothing store that specialized in magical garments, Ying Tong suddenly stopped.
Cultivators often went out for training or battles, so their clothes usually had no excessive adornments, keeping things simple.
But that didn’t mean the clothes of cultivators were plain.
Simplicity didn’t equate to simplicity, especially for female cultivators, who had higher standards for their attire. From the fabric to the accessories, everything had to be of the finest quality.
Ying Tong certainly wasn’t lacking in clothing, but when she looked over at Ying Xuejian, she noticed that she was still wearing clothes that had once belonged to Ying Shao’an.
The sleeves were slightly rolled up, and the clothes hung loosely on her, giving her a somewhat empty appearance.
“Let’s go in and have a look.”
Ying Tong pointed to the clothing store and said.
Once they entered the store, the attendant immediately noticed Ying Tong’s exceptional attire and quickly realized that a big spender had arrived. He rushed over to greet her with enthusiasm.
At that moment, the owner also came out, his face lighting up with a broad smile.
Although he had never seen Ying Tong in Shifang City before, he was someone with an eye for quality.
Just from the clothes Ying Tong was wearing, even though he didn’t know the material, he could tell that it was extraordinary—far surpassing anything in his store.
“Excuse me, may I ask if you are looking for fabric or ready-made garments?” the owner asked.
“Ready-made garments,” Ying Tong pointed to Ying Xuejian, who was peeking over curiously, “For her.”
The owner glanced at Ying Xuejian, and his smile became even more eager. “Of course, of course! Miss, recently we’ve had several high-end magical garments come into the store. They are all very suitable for someone of your age. Would you like to take a look at them?”
Ying Xuejian looked at Ying Tong with some uncertainty.
Ying Tong nodded, “Let’s take a look at all of them. If any of them are suitable, just pack them up.”
“Alright, alright, I’ll go get them right now!”
Seeing this, the owner flashed a big smile and turned to the attendant. “What are you standing there for? Hurry up and bring them out!”
Soon, three different styles of magical garments, each in a different color, were carefully brought out by the attendant.
Ying Tong’s eyes briefly scanned over the three garments, and she nodded. “They are indeed high-end magical garments.” Though the craftsmanship was a bit rough.
Normally, Ying Tong wouldn’t pay attention to garments of such quality, but since she hadn’t brought any extra clothes with her, she had no choice but to let Ying Xuejian make do for the time being.
After trying on the three garments, Ying Xuejian finally walked out wearing a black and dark red garment.
“Aunt, I’ll take this one,” Ying Xuejian said.
“What about the other two? Don’t you want them?”
Hearing this, Ying Xuejian shook her head. “I don’t like bright colors.”
Ying Tong nodded. The other two garments were pink and light yellow—colors that most young girls would prefer. However, Ying Xuejian wasn’t just any ordinary young girl, so it wasn’t surprising that she didn’t like them.
“Then we’ll take this one. Also, pack up all the darker-colored garments you have in the store. Wearing just one outfit all the time leads to aesthetic fatigue.”
“Understood, understood! Please wait for a moment, I’ll have everything prepared immediately!” The owner rubbed his hands together, his eyes gleaming with excitement.
Initially, when he heard that they only wanted one piece, he thought he was going to lose out on a large sum of spirit stones. But now, things had taken a turn for the better.
Most of the customers who came to his shop were female cultivators, and these people often preferred bright, beautiful clothes. Dark-colored garments didn’t sell well.
But now, these two had just wiped out his stock of dark-colored clothes—what a blessing.
After some time, the owner, along with the attendant and several heavy boxes, approached them, his face filled with smiles. “Honored guests, these are all the dark-colored garments in my store. Please take a look. The total is eight thousand lower-grade spirit stones.”
Ying Tong nodded and gestured for Ying Xuejian to take the boxes, while she herself prepared to pay.
Ying Xuejian was holding a dark jade bracelet—the same one that Ying Tong had bought earlier at the market.
Just as Ying Tong was in the process of paying, someone wearing a mask suddenly rushed into the store.
Without saying a word, the masked person grabbed Ying Xuejian’s arm and said, “Name your price. I want the bracelet you’re wearing.”
Hearing this, Ying Xuejian’s expression instantly darkened, and she swiftly shook off the masked person’s hand. “Sorry, this item is not for sale.”
The masked person wasn’t willing to give up, “It’s just a bracelet. How about five hundred spirit stones? This much money could get you thousands of bracelets.”
“Then go ahead and buy thousands of bracelets with your money. No one’s stopping you,” Ying Xuejian replied impatiently, her eyes flashing with subtle murderous intent.
In her gaze, a red light flickered for a moment.
The masked person seemed to be intimidated by this fierce look, retreating a few steps involuntarily.
At this moment, Ying Tong had finished paying and walked over.
As she approached, a faint, foul scent of curses became apparent. Interesting—so, it was someone from the Ying family.
Was the person wearing the mask trying to hide the curse lines on their face?
“Do you think you can exchange a spatial magic treasure for just five hundred spirit stones? Are you stupid, or do you think we are?”
“You know!”
Hearing Ying Tong’s words, the masked person couldn’t help but exclaim in surprise.
A sarcastic smile appeared on Ying Tong’s face. “You’re not the only smart one in the world.”
At this point, the owner and the shop assistant, who had been watching the entire exchange, looked at the masked person with disdain. Five hundred spirit stones probably wouldn’t even be enough to touch a spatial magic treasure. What was this person thinking?
The masked person, feeling exposed, became embarrassed and immediately turned to leave.
Just then, a sudden gust of wind blew toward them, forcefully knocking the mask off the person’s face, revealing a cursed and scarred countenance that seemed to be plagued by dark magic.
The shop assistant, with his sharp memory and keen eyesight, instantly recognized the person and gasped in shock. “Miss Ying Nanjiao, how could this be? What happened to you?”
The person was Ying Nanjiao, the younger cousin of Ying Nanxi. Once known for her beautiful appearance, her once delicate features were now replaced with a face that resembled a monstrous, cursed being.
“Don’t look, don’t look!”
Ying Nanjiao hastily picked up her mask from the ground and put it back on her face. Then, in the midst of the stunned, horrified, and disgusted gazes of those present, she quickly fled the scene.
Once she had left, Ying Tong turned to the shop assistant and asked, “You said her name is Ying Nanjiao?”
The shop assistant nodded. “Yes, Ying Nanjiao is the third young miss of the Ying family from the Eastern City. She used to be a regular customer at our shop. I don’t know what happened to her, but she’s completely changed.”
Thinking back to Ying Nanjiao’s appearance just now, the shop assistant couldn’t help but shiver in fear.
