Chapter 10: Otherwise, We Won’t Be Friends Anymore
The two girls were classmates. The taller one was named Zhang Li, and the shorter one was Wang Ying.
They were from Dorm 302, but they didn’t interact much usually.
When they were caught talking behind someone’s back, they froze for a moment. They quickly exited the restroom, one after the other.
Jiang Yan rolled her eyes at their backs, walked over to the sink, and, while washing her hands, muttered indignantly, “Crazy people. Our Xia Xia didn’t even do anything to them…”
Liu An’an had just gone to get her meal card from Liu Boyi and was holding three bottles of milk, ready to head upstairs, when she bumped into the furious Jiang Yan. “What happened? Did someone steal your turn at the faucet?”
It was common for people to fight over the sink when they went to wash their hands in the restroom.
“No, it’s Zhang Li and Wang Ying. They were badmouthing Xia Xia, saying she’s two-timing.”
Jiang Yan’s round face puffed up in anger, and she couldn’t help but complain, “What kind of people are they? They’re making it sound like our Xia Xia’s some kind of loose girl.”
Liu An’an immediately joined in, cursing under her breath, “Damn it, screw them! Ugly people always causing trouble.”
…
In the classroom,
When Wen Xia heard the sound of chairs moving, her eyes shifted from her book to the two of them. “I put a bag of chips in your drawer. Don’t eat them during class.”
Noticing that the two seemed a bit upset, she asked, “What happened? Did something go wrong?”
Jiang Yan was about to speak when she saw Liu An’an wink at her, and immediately changed her words. “Nothing.”
She pulled out the chips from the drawer. “Wow, Xia Xia, you’re the best. I love these chips, especially the barbecue flavor.”
“There are more in the dorm. If you like them, I’ll give you some.” Wen Xia used to like these chips, but she didn’t enjoy them as much anymore.
“Xia Xia, you’re so sweet, I love you!”
Jiang Yan leaned in from behind and kissed Wen Xia on the cheek, leaving Wen Xia both amused and helpless.
Liu An’an handed out the milk to the two of them, one bottle each, grinning with satisfaction. “I went to get my meal card and happened to bump into my brother buying milk, so I just helped myself and took some.”
“An’an, if I were your brother, I wouldn’t recognize you as my sister,” Jiang Yan said, pitying Liu Boyi for a moment.
“Then don’t drink it. I’ll give it to Xia Xia. After all, this is the milk she likes the most.”
Liu An’an made a move to take the milk back, but Jiang Yan quickly stuffed it into her drawer. “An’an, I’m sorry.”
“That’s more like it,” Liu An’an said, pouting. She snorted with satisfaction.
At that moment, the bell rang, signaling the start of class.
English Class
Liu An’an quickly scribbled a note, and when the teacher wasn’t paying attention, she secretly passed it to Jiang Yan, glancing over at Zhang Li and Wang Ying.
Jiang Yan nodded and, after glancing at the teacher writing on the board, tossed the note to the desk next to her, whispering, “Zhang Li.”
Wen Xia noticed their little exchange and gently reminded them, “Pay attention in class.”
Both of them quickly nodded.
The note was passed along, one desk at a time, until it finally reached Zhang Li. It read: If you talk bad about Wen Xia again, I won’t be so nice! LAA.
Zhang Li’s expression changed, and she glanced nervously at Liu An’an. When she met her gaze, she saw Liu An’an making a fist at her, which made her quickly look away, scared.
Liu An’an had an older brother in the senior class, and everyone in the class knew about him. Once, Liu An’an was bullied by a girl in class, and her older brother came to the class to warn the girl.
“Liu An’an! Who are you looking at? Tell the teacher who’s good-looking. Let the teacher take a look and see if we can spot a flower!” Zhao Jing pushed her black-framed glasses up, slapped the teacher’s desk, and said irritably.
Liu An’an, feeling guilty, shrank her neck and weakly responded, “Teacher, I was borrowing a pen. My pen ran out of ink.”
Jiang Yan immediately handed her a pen from behind.
Zhao Jing had been a teacher for over ten years, so she could easily see through their little tricks. She just turned a blind eye and chose not to say anything.
With an annoyed tone, she said, “Pay attention in class.”
After saying that, she continued with her lesson.
After class, Wen Xia grabbed Liu An’an’s arm. “What happened? Don’t try to lie. Otherwise, we won’t be friends anymore.”
