Chapter 11: B University and Q University Are Not a Problem
Liu An’an still tried to hide the truth, clutching her stomach as she said, “Xia Xia, I need to use the restroom.”
Those words were truly too harsh for a girl to bear.
“If you don’t tell me, I’ll make you hold it in. Hmph, let’s see how long you can last,” Wen Xia retorted, becoming even more certain that they were hiding something from her—something bad and about her.
It had been too long since her student days, and she could no longer recall the specifics of what had happened back then.
What she didn’t realize was that on the very day she returned to high school, the trajectory of events began to subtly shift.
“Xia Xia, you’re being way too cruel!” Liu An’an pouted but eventually had no choice but to spill everything that Jiang Yan had said, recounting it all in detail to Wen Xia.
Wen Xia glanced in the direction of Zhang Li and Wang Ying, two people she had no impression of.
Quickly, she looked away, then pinched Liu An’an’s puffed-up cheeks with a smile. “In the future, don’t bother with this kind of thing. People can say whatever they want; they’re just jealous of how pretty I am.” The latter part of her sentence was clearly a joke.
Back in high school, for three years, only Liu An’an and Jiang Yan stayed close to her. The other girls in the class seemed to intentionally exclude her, even gossiping about her behind her back. She had overheard plenty of those conversations.
Among the rumors, there were things far worse than being called two-timing. They accused her of sleeping with certain people, even naming names, and speculated about how much she charged per night.
At the time, she couldn’t understand why they looked at her that way, even though she had done nothing to deserve it.
Later, she realized it was all because of her face.
Jiang Yan and Liu An’an burst out laughing, their giggles causing them to rock back and forth.
“Go to the restroom quickly; there are only five minutes left.” Wen Xia glanced at the round clock above the blackboard.
Liu An’an did need to go, so as soon as she heard that, she grabbed some tissues and dashed out.
“Xia Xia, are you really okay?” Jiang Yan leaned forward, her tone full of concern.
Wen Xia winked at her and said, “I’m really fine. I didn’t do any of those things.”
In the past, when she heard those kinds of rumors, she would feel indignant and go confront the people involved, causing a big commotion. The result was that she ended up leaving a poor impression on the teachers.
It simply wasn’t worth it.
…
There were still ten minutes left until the lunch break.
Cao Jun shouted at the boys showing off and fooling around on the balcony and at the girls playing noisily, ordering everyone to return to the classroom.
Liu An’an was in the middle of describing a domineering CEO novel she’d been reading. As she spoke, she animatedly acted out the scenes. “Then the domineering CEO grabbed the heroine with one arm and kissed her…”
Facing the classroom door, Wen Xia was the first to see Cao Jun arrive. She immediately cut Liu An’an off mid-sentence. “Mr. Cao is here.”
At that moment, the lively classroom instantly fell silent. Everyone quickly sat up straight in their seats.
Cao Jun scanned the room. There were no empty seats. “I’ll just take a few minutes of your time to talk about two things.”
“First, this Thursday and Friday will be our first monthly exams for the term. I already mentioned this to you last week, but I’m reminding you again. Make sure to use your time wisely to review and aim for good results. After the exams, we’ll rearrange the seating based on your grades.”
That last sentence caused an uproar among the students. One boy groaned dramatically, “Mr. Cao, can we not change seats?”
“If we don’t change seats, you’ll keep turning the classroom into a marketplace,” Cao Jun replied, glaring at him.
He then slapped his palm on the desk to quiet everyone and continued with a stern face, “Settle down. Don’t you want to hear the next piece of good news? If you don’t, I’ll just leave now.”
“No, no, Mr. Cao, please tell us!” the same boy responded quickly.
The room fell silent again.
Cao Jun didn’t keep them in suspense any longer. “Here’s the second piece of good news: next Monday through Wednesday, we’ll have the school’s Autumn Sports Day. I hope all of you will actively participate and bring honor to our class.”
“Wow!!”
The students, who had been sulking moments ago about the seat changes, were now bursting with excitement.
Three days without classes during the sports event.
“If you could show this much enthusiasm for studying, B University and Q University would be no problem for you,” Cao Jun said with mock exasperation.
The entire class erupted in laughter.
