Chapter 331 – Roommate Introductions
Afterwards, the girl on Tan Yunfang’s upper bunk also spoke, she seemed rather shy.
“I’m Tang Yuan, from Shanghai.”
Her voice was soft and gentle, somewhat reminiscent of Feng Zhenzhu’s accent, just a bit softer.
Her appearance was fair and clean, and she seemed to have a good personality…
After the introductions on the opposite side were done, there were only two people left for the bed spaces on Lu Xia’s side. The girl on the lower bunk next to Lu Xia was strikingly beautiful, with a somewhat proud air. Her self-introduction was also quite distinct.
“I’m… Xie Guifang, from Jiangxi Province. My father is the director of the county government, and my mother is the chairwoman of the labor union. I used to work for the labor union as well. After the semester starts, I intend to apply to be the class monitor. I hope you all can vote for me.”
With that, nobody replied. Lu Xia felt that this person was quite unusual. Not only did she introduce herself in a unique way, but she even started campaigning. Oh, and she mentioned her parents’ professions as well. She appeared quite proud, but her name sounded a bit rustic.
Seeing that no one responded, Xie Guifang furrowed her brow. Just as she was about to say something, the person on the bunk above her spoke first: “I’m Ye Nan, from Beijing. I’m 20 years old this year. Nice to meet all of you.”
This person had a student-style haircut and flashed a set of white teeth when she smiled. She had a somewhat heroic appearance and appeared outgoing and friendly by nature.
Lu Xia smiled and nodded at her, and then Yu Wan introduced herself again. That way, everyone got acquainted.
Afterward, they chatted for a while. Lu Xia learned that their dormitory was a mix of students from different majors. Lu Xia, Yu Wan, and Xie Guifang were all English majors, while the other three were from the Literature Department.
Yu Wan was quite envious since she originally wanted to major in literature but didn’t get admitted.
Seeing them having such a cheerful conversation, Xie Guifang felt ignored. Combined with the fact that no one had responded to her earlier remarks, she grew somewhat irritated.
She also didn’t find Tan Yunfang’s child very pleasing to her eyes.
Seizing the opportunity while they were chatting, she directly said, “Tan Yunfang, how long is your child planning to stay in the dorm? The space is already so small, adding one more person isn’t convenient. And, will the child cry at night? I’m sensitive to noise, so please don’t disturb my sleep.”
As her words fell, the dormitory fell silent. No one had expected her to be so direct. They didn’t know how to respond.
Seeing the embarrassment on Tan Yunfang’s face and the fear in her child’s eyes, Lu Xia sighed and spoke up to ease the tension.
“I won’t be staying in the dormitory at night. Xiao Ya can sleep in my bed. You’ll just need to bring your own blanket. This way, the dormitory won’t be overcrowded.”
Tan Yunfang smiled gratefully at her response, “Thank you, Lu Xia, but there’s no need. Xiao Ya is small, and my bed can accommodate her. Sorry for the trouble. Actually, I’ve already applied to the school, and they agreed. I also applied for work-study, so once I save enough money, I’ll move out with Xiao Ya.”
In the dormitory, besides Xie Guifang, the others also understood the situation. After all, Xiao Ya had already spent a night in the dormitory yesterday, and she seemed obedient and well-behaved.
Ye Nan chimed in, “It’s okay. You can stay as long as you need. Xiao Ya even helped me sweep the floor yesterday. She’s so thoughtful.”
The others also joined in agreement, leaving Xie Guifang feeling embarrassed.
With a grim expression, she retorted, “Then why did you bring your child here? Where’s her father? Your family? Couldn’t they help take care of her? Did you have to bring her to school? Isn’t this causing trouble for others?”
Lu Xia didn’t know what to say after hearing that. She had never encountered someone so tactless before. Besides, it was someone’s private matter. Why should she tell you?

Chapter 332 – Tan Yunfang’s Experience
.
Upon hearing this, Tan Yunfang’s expression turned sour, but she didn’t hide anything.
“I got divorced, and the child is with me. My family lives far away, and my parents don’t have time to take care of the child, so I brought her with me.”
Lu Xia and the others nodded; it was clear they had already guessed this.
However, at this moment, Xie Guifang chimed in, “Divorced? Could it be that after you got into the university, you looked down on your husband and abandoned him along with your child?”
Hearing this, Tan Yunfang’s face darkened, and she didn’t hold back her displeasure toward Xie Guifang.
But she didn’t want to be misunderstood, so she explained with a cold face, “I’ve been divorced for two years. My ex-husband belittled me for only having a daughter after being married for so long. He then got involved with a widow from the village. We divorced when she became pregnant. After that, I’ve been living with my child at the educated youth spot. I managed to get into Peking University after the college entrance exams resumed.”
Though it was just a few short sentences, the content was heavy and left a sense of discomfort. Truly, it hadn’t been easy!
Lu Xia and the others felt sympathy for her as they listened. Only Xie Guifang curled her lips, seemingly thinking that Tan Yunfang brought her situation upon herself for not having a son.
However, she knew such words wouldn’t be well received, so she finally fell silent and refrained from speaking further.
Seeing the atmosphere grow heavy, Lu Xia took the initiative to lighten it up.
“Going by this, I’m the only one in our dorm who’s married, right? Everyone looks quite young!”
Tan Yunfang didn’t want everyone to focus on her situation, so she laughed and responded, “Yeah, living together with you all makes me feel like we’re from different generations!”
Yu Wan joined in with a smile, “Yunfang, you’re not that old, just 28. You’re still youthful! If you take good care of yourself, you’ll stay young.”
Lu Xia was surprised to learn that Tan Yunfang was still in her twenties. She looked like she was in her thirties, probably because she had been through a lot over the years.
Hearing this, Tan Yunfang smiled, seemingly not too concerned. “I’m not thinking about that right now. I just want to study hard, get a good job in the future, and raise my child.”
At this point, Ye Nan joined in, her voice filled with a mix of shyness and joy. “Although I’m not married, I do have a fiancé. He’s serving in the army elsewhere, but I think we’ll get married when he comes back.”
Speaking of her fiancé, her face was flushed with shyness but also happiness. It was clear she was deeply in love.
Others in the dormitory teased her a bit upon hearing this, while Tang Yuan and Yu Wan, at 18 and 19 respectively, were too young to have romantic partners.
As for Xie Guifang, she didn’t mention anything about her own situation, and no one asked.
After chatting for a while, they found that everyone had a good personality. Lu Xia was quite satisfied with her new roommates. As for Xie Guifang, well, she was effectively ignored.
Then Ye Nan curiously asked Lu Xia, “I heard your husband is also a student at Peking University?”
Lu Xia nodded, “Yes, he’s from the Academy of Fine Arts.”
“Oh, I see. You’re quite lucky to both get into the same university. It must be convenient to meet each other often.”
Lu Xia smiled, “That’s right.”
Then Ye Nan asked curiously, “So, when can we meet him?”
Lu Xia was puzzled, “Why?”
Ye Nan looked a bit embarrassed, “I heard from Yu Wan that your husband is really handsome, even more handsome than you. I was curious.”
Lu Xia looked at Yu Wan in disbelief.
Yu Wan was also a bit embarrassed, “Well, it was just a casual comment. They asked what kind of person you were, and I just mentioned it.”
Lu Xia was even more speechless now. A casual comment led to her husband’s appearance being discussed?
However, she wasn’t angry. After all, she couldn’t forget Jiang Junmo’s appearance either.
So she smiled and said, “He’ll come to pick me up after the meeting. You’ll get to see him then.”
Yu Wan breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing this. It was good that Lu Xia wasn’t angry.
As for Ye Nan, she was a good judge of character and had long since realized that Lu Xia wasn’t so petty, that’s why she had spoken up.
I hope you’re feeling a little better 🙂
Thank you for updating even while sick! It’s become my daily routine to wake up and immediately read the next lot of chapters for this story while eating. It wakes me up and then I start my day. It’s a little bit of joy I get to have every morning 🙂
Welp Cannon Fodder useless roommate like always.
Poor woman …..
Another great opportunity to point out that a child’s gender depends on the father~
