Chapter 343 – Translation

After returning, Lu Xia happily shared her plan to take up part-time work-study with Jiang Junmo.

Upon hearing about her plan to earn money through part-time work, Jiang Junmo didn’t say much. He felt happy for her since she was so pleased. However, during moments when she wasn’t paying attention, he remained lost in thought for a while. But he quickly returned to his usual self before she noticed.

Of course, Lu Xia was too preoccupied with thoughts of her part-time work to notice any of this.

On the weekend break, Jiang Junmo accompanied her to buy the necessary books.

Back at home, she flipped through the books and found them quite useful. She could now better understand that Chu Liangchen’s background was likely extraordinary.

When Monday came, Teacher Li assigned the task to them and set the deadline for submission.

Upon returning home, Lu Xia started translating.

She was actually nervous because she had no prior experience with translation. After receiving the materials, she was puzzled for a while and didn’t know where to start. Fortunately, Jiang Junmo was there to help.

Through this experience, Lu Xia discovered that Jiang Junmo’s English was exceptionally good. His pronunciation was precise, his vocabulary extensive, and the language he translated into sounded elegant.

Lu Xia was both amazed and impressed. She felt that her husband had many hidden talents waiting for her to discover. While she had thought she had something impressive to offer, she felt insignificant compared to Jiang Junmo. However, she was relieved. After all, he was already hers, and there was no need to be envious.

With Jiang Junmo’s assistance, Lu Xia quickly grasped the art of translation. Eventually, she no longer needed his help for every task, as she wanted to manage the work herself. It was a chance to earn money while learning, and she only asked him for help when she was truly stuck.

Jiang Junmo respected her independence. However, in the evenings, when she was busy translating, he would sit beside her, reading a book while keeping her company.

With him by her side, Lu Xia felt secure.

After half a month, they finally completed the translation of the first set of materials.

Because it was their first part-time job, Teacher Li assigned them relatively simple tasks to gauge their abilities. If their work met expectations, he would continue assigning more tasks in the future.

When the time came for Lu Xia to submit her work to Teacher Li, she felt a bit apprehensive. She went with Chu Liangchen, who had already completed his translation a few days earlier. He didn’t submit it earlier, choosing to wait for her. Lu Xia appreciated his consideration, realizing he was accommodating her schedule.

After receiving the materials from both of them, Teacher Li didn’t review them immediately. He simply nodded and said, “Good job, you completed the translation quickly. Now, wait for further instructions. I’ll show these to the editorial team at the magazine. If they find your work suitable, there will be more tasks for you.”

Lu Xia’s heart was instantly lifted, and she thanked Teacher Li.

Back home, Chu Liangchen noticed that Lu Xia was still a bit anxious. He reassured her, “Don’t worry. It should be fine. Translators are in demand these days, and they can’t find too many people. As long as your work isn’t too bad, you’ll be alright.”

Lu Xia relaxed upon hearing his words. “I see. That makes me feel better. Thank you.”

“Sure thing,” Chu Liangchen nodded again and left, his proud demeanor intact.

Lu Xia chuckled at his behavior.

Being busy with the translation work for the past few days, she hadn’t properly rested even during lunch breaks. That’s why when she returned to her room without pulling out her books, her roommates were somewhat surprised.

“What’s going on? No more translation?” Yu Wan asked.

Teacher Li had informed the class that Lu Xia and Chu Liangchen had taken up translation work, and the other classmates were somewhat envious. After all, the job paid well and offered a chance for personal growth. However, they were aware of their own abilities and envied them only from a distance. Afterwards, they focused more on their studies, hoping to earn money themselves in the future.

Lu Xia nodded, “It’s done. I can finally take a few days to rest.”

Chapter 344 – Relationship Talk

.

Yu Wan listened with envy, “That’s great! I used to think learning English was pointless, but now you’re earning money using English right after starting school. I suddenly feel like learning English is very useful.”

Hearing her words, Lu Xia smiled and nodded, “You’re right in thinking that way.”

“Yeah!” Yu Wan sighed, “Many people in the class have become more diligent recently. The class monitor even organized after-school study sessions, and a lot of people stay an extra hour after school to study.”

Lu Xia chuckled. She hadn’t expected that this part-time work would have such an effect. Well, they had to dangle a sweet carrot to motivate everyone’s learning attitude. She wondered if Teacher Li deliberately assigned them the job for this reason.

“Do you go too?” Lu Xia asked Yu Wan.

“Of course. In our class, even the married students are going. Everyone’s working hard. The guys even chipped in to buy a radio. They use it to practice pronunciation every day.”

Lu Xia was surprised by this dedication. She also felt a bit emotional, realizing that she couldn’t rely on her foundation and slack off. Otherwise, others might catch up to her easily.

After chatting a bit more with her classmates, Lu Xia suddenly realized that someone was missing from the dormitory.

“Where’s Xie Guifang?”

Ye Nan spoke directly, “She’s not here. You’ve been busy translating these past few days, so you probably didn’t notice. She hasn’t come back at noon for several days!”

Lu Xia was surprised, “Then where did she go?”

Ye Nan’s expression was awkward, “She’s with our class monitor. The two of them are in a relationship. They’re so affectionate, and they can’t bear to be apart. They’re probably napping in the classroom right now.”

Is napping together in the classroom a new form of dating?

However… “They’re officially together now?”

“Yeah, a few days ago, we saw them holding hands. After we got back, we asked Xie Guifang, and she confirmed it.”

Lu Xia commented, “Well… that was fast!”

Tan Yunfang laughed, “If both parties are interested, things tend to move quickly, right?”

Lu Xia thought about it and realized that it made sense. In this day and age, relationships progressed swiftly, so she didn’t dwell on it.

Afterward, she looked at Xiao Ya, who had always been inconspicuous.

She had never seen such a quiet and obedient child. Perhaps she was afraid of being disliked, so she rarely spoke. She had such a low presence that if Lu Xia hadn’t heard her speak before, she would have thought she was mute.

It wasn’t easy for her to be in this kind of living situation. Maybe things would be better when she moved out to live on her own.

But thinking about this, Lu Xia turned to Tan Yunfang and asked, “Yunfang, have you ever considered sending Xiao Ya to school? Staying in the dormitory all the time must be boring for her.”

Tan Yunfang was also concerned about her daughter. After all, she needed to attend classes now, and she couldn’t bring her daughter to class. At night, she also had to work at the cafeteria for the work-study program for two hours.

So, since Xiao Ya arrived at the dormitory, she hadn’t gone out much.

“Well, I’ve thought about it. But her household registration isn’t here. I checked with the elementary school nearby, and they require a significant amount of money to enroll. I’ll have to wait until I have a job and can transfer her household registration before I can decide.
For now, she can only attend kindergarten. However, it’s difficult to get into a reputable kindergarten, and even private ones are expensive for a semester. On top of that, I have to pick her up every day, and I don’t have the time. So, for now, I can only make do for Xiao Ya.
But the good thing is that Xiao Ya is intelligent. I started teaching her when she was five or six years old, and she’s already learned up to the third-grade curriculum. Once her household registration is transferred, she can directly join the appropriate grade, so she won’t have to start from the beginning.”
