Chapter 437 – Even a vicious tiger will not eat its cubs

As a result, when Li Hua met Xie Yunyun, the words he uttered left her feeling deeply disappointed. He had previously promised that if she gave birth to a son, he would marry her. However, now that she had given birth to a daughter, he intended to renege on his promise.

Xie Yunyun was furious and threatened him, saying that if he didn’t marry her, she would go to the school authorities to seek justice.

To her astonishment, Li Hua was completely indifferent to her threats. He claimed that the school had already investigated the matter and believed his side of the story. He asserted that he had only taken care of her out of pity for her unfortunate situation. He also argued that society had become less strict about male-female relationships, and even if she reported him to the school, he would face no consequences. In fact, he suggested that he would no longer bother with her in the future.

He even hinted that if she behaved herself, he might occasionally provide some financial support when he was in a good mood.

Most importantly, he insinuated that even if Xie Yunyun reported their situation, nobody would believe her due to her tarnished reputation. When the time came, all Li Hua had to do was deny any involvement, and the child would not be considered his, but rather the illegitimate child of Xie Yunyun and someone else.

Upon hearing these words, Xie Yunyun’s hopes were shattered.

In the end, she gave Li Hua one last look, said nothing, and turned to leave. Li Hua assumed she had left the school, but little did he know that she hadn’t gone anywhere.

After hearing Li Hua’s callous words, Xie Yunyun lost all hope for her future. Quietly, she wrote a farewell letter, detailing Li Hua’s actions, including how he had spent her money before her troubles began, deceived her into intimacy, convinced her to stay in the city, treated her as his personal possession, and lied about marrying her when she gave birth to a daughter.

Feeling utterly dejected, she no longer wanted to live. She believed that the child was born from a sin and that they should leave this world together.

After completing the letter, she placed it inside the baby’s swaddle and headed to the rooftop.

After sitting there all night, the child probably froze to death at that time.

Then after dawn, she jumped directly!

The other roommates fell silent after listening to this whole story.

“Even a vicious tiger will not eat its cubs!” someone remarked.

She just watched her child freeze to death.

As for Lu Xia, at this point, she couldn’t decide whether to pity Xie Yunyun or think of her as ruthless. However, when compared to Xie Yunyun, Li Hua appeared even more inhuman.

He was nothing but a scoundrel! Moreover, he had a wicked heart! It was rare to come across someone as despicable as him.

“Why on earth did your class choose such a person as the class monitor?” Yu Wan exclaimed. Clearly, she looked down upon Li Hua for indirectly causing the deaths of two people, one of whom was a newborn baby.

Tang Yuan sighed upon hearing this. “I truly didn’t expect him to be this kind of person. I remember back in the first semester when school started; he was exceptionally enthusiastic. Whether it was his personality or his abilities, we all thought highly of him. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been elected as the class monitor.”

“Yeah,” Tan Yunfang added with a sigh. “He was quite eloquent, and we all believed he had the capability. We never thought he could be like this.”

“It just goes to show that you can’t judge a book by its cover!” Yu Wan remarked.

Subsequently, Yu Wan asked, “So, do you think the school will expel him for this?”

“This time, it’s likely,” Ye Nan analyzed carefully. “Although he didn’t directly cause this incident, it’s still connected to him. Furthermore, it involves the loss of two lives. The school was already disappointed with his previous behavior, and now, with this major incident, it has tarnished the school’s reputation. I don’t think they’ll give him another chance.”

Tang Yuan sighed once again. “Well, this might be for the best. After hearing about all this, I don’t even know how to face him anymore.”

“Indeed,” others agreed.

Chapter 438 – Twins

.

After understanding the general course of events, Lu Xia looked admirably at Ye Nan and said, “You’re impressive too. It hasn’t been long since this happened, and you’ve already figured everything out.”

Ye Nan smiled and replied, “It’s nothing. We’re news reporters, and we need to stay up-to-date and quickly uncover the truth.”

Lu Xia smiled after hearing this but didn’t say much, only sighing and thinking that she was indeed a promising news reporter.

Because of this incident, everyone’s spirits were low. There were discussions within the school, but unlike Ye Nan, others couldn’t figure things out so quickly. So, no one knew who was responsible, and the school didn’t make any announcements; they just discouraged private discussions.

However, after returning home, Lu Xia did mention this to Jiang Junmo.

Jiang Junmo sighed upon hearing it. “You reap what you sow. From the moment she chose to trust Li Hua and place all her hopes on him, this outcome was inevitable. Don’t feel sorry for her. You’re pregnant now, so you need to take good care of yourself.”

Lu Xia nodded and sighed, “I’m not really sorry for her; it’s just a bit nostalgic. And I feel sorry for that child. She’s been in this world for such a short time and hasn’t had the chance to have a good mother.”

Jiang Junmo walked over and embraced her, placing a hand on her belly. “Don’t worry; we’ll be good parents!”

Lu Xia smiled at his words and didn’t dwell on the topic further.

The police investigation proceeded quickly. They interviewed relevant contacts, including Li Hua’s teachers and classmates, neighbors near Xie Yunyun’s rented apartment, and even Lu Xia’s dormitory mates.

They asked if they knew about Xie Yunyun and Li Hua’s relationship. They all told the truth, including the instances of Xie Yunyun staying out all night.

The results came out quickly and were similar to what Ye Nan had said. Since Li Hua wasn’t the direct murderer, he was released. However, due to the extensive attention the case had garnered, the school expelled him upon his release.

Regarding Xie Yunyun, the school issued a statement, stating that she was an outsider, and the incident had nothing to do with the school. They hoped everyone would stop discussing it.

The incident soon faded away. After Li Hua was released, he collected his things and left, not appearing at the school again.

Lu Xia didn’t know if he would regret it. Two lives and his status as a college student were lost due to his malicious intent.

But Lu Xia didn’t dwell on these matters. Soon, it was New Year’s Day, and the final exams were approaching. Lu Xia’s belly had reached three months of pregnancy, and she wasn’t experiencing much nausea anymore. However, she was surprised that her pregnancy was already showing.

Observing her, Lu Xia asked Jiang Junmo with some anticipation, “My belly is much bigger than when I was pregnant with Kang Kang. Do you think it might be twins?”

Jiang Junmo furrowed his brow upon hearing this, carefully examining her belly. Indeed, it seemed larger than expected, and his expression grew more tense.

Lu Xia asked, “What’s wrong? Don’t you want them to be twins?”

Jiang Junmo shook his head and replied, “Of course not. I’m just worried about you. It’s tough to carry one child, let alone two, and childbirth can be hard on the body, especially with twins. My mother took several years to recover after giving birth to my third and fourth sisters.”

Lu Xia felt reassured by his concern and said, “Don’t worry. Our current conditions are much better than back then, and with you by my side, taking good care of me and feeding me well, everything will be fine.”

Jiang Junmo sighed and finally said, “After this, let’s not have any more children.”

Lu Xia nodded in agreement, “Yes, that’s what I was thinking too. Originally, I thought two children would be enough, and if it turns out to be twins, that would make three.”

Jiang Junmo smiled and said, “After the exams, let’s go to the hospital for a checkup. I’m a bit worried with how things are going now.”

Lu Xia didn’t object and replied, “Okay, I’ll listen to you.”

  1. I have a very good friend who had twins. It’s actually quite hard on a woman’s body, even with all the modern medicine available, to carry twins. 😅

  2. The endings of all female antagonistic cannon fodder are quite tragic and cruel. The males only face no marriage prospects and failed careers. But the women face abusive husbands/inlaws and death. I will never agree with how Chinese novels normalize such cruel endings. No matter how nasty a person is, they don’t necessarily deserve death, and definitely not rape, abuse, etc.

    1. Yeah. It’s a bit disheartening. I was afraid something like this would happen, and turns out I was right on the money. Li Hua barely got a slap on the wrist considering the misery he caused.

    2. Do novels normalise it or do they mirror the norm? Not saying that women always end up that bad but men getting off lighter doesn’t seem historically incorrect. Just because it isn’t pleasant doesn’t mean it’s fake. Especially when it comes to relationships where a foolish girl was deceived by a scumbag.

  3. What can we do?, that’s their culture, the female always pay a harsh price and even in modern books, it’s still the same but who can we really blame. If she didn’t steal that other girl’s position, she wouldn’t have to come and meet this kind of scum, in the end it’s always about the kind of choices one makes. But she really didn’t deserve this kind of ending though
