Chapter 557 – Resolving from the Source

Lu Xia fell silent upon hearing this. “So, I’m really not their child?”

“Based on the current investigation evidence, that seems to be the case! However, though your biological father has been confirmed, we don’t know who your biological mother is. Lu Jianhe’s past goes too far back, making it difficult to investigate. Currently, there’s no information. Since this matter isn’t directly related to the case, the bureau didn’t delve into it.”

Lu Xia fell silent again.

Her second brother-in-law thought she might need some time to process, so he comforted, “Actually, this is a good thing. Now that this matter is officially documented, although they raised you, the investigation indicates that Lu Jianhai likely did it for money, and they haven’t treated you well over the years.

In the future, you won’t be considered a criminal’s child anymore, and your descendants won’t be affected during audits. However, it’s too late to change your previous job allocation because you found out late.”

Lu Xia seemed to have just regained her senses and showed an uncomfortable smile. “I understand. Second Brother-in-law, can I see them again?”

Her second brother-in-law nodded, “Yes, because the investigation took some time, they are leaving tomorrow. If you want to see them, do it today.”

Lu Xia nodded, “Let’s meet now then.”

Upon hearing this, her second brother-in-law went to arrange the meeting.

It was soon the same scene as last time.

After sitting down, Lu Xia heard her mother continuously berating her from across the table, “I knew you weren’t close to us. Turns out you’re a bastard, not our own flesh and blood! No wonder!”

“I regret raising you. Why didn’t I drown you in a chamber pot?”

“Indeed, a bastard. If it weren’t for you being useless to the family and almost costing them their jobs, we wouldn’t have had to do this. You ungrateful wretch!”

Seeing that Mother Lu was getting more and more outrageous, a nearby prison guard stepped forward, saying, “Behave, or you’ll have to leave!”

Mother Lu shuddered upon hearing this and finally calmed down.

But Lu Xia seemed to pay no heed, continually looking down at her father.

At this moment, her father also lifted his head and stared at her, remaining silent.

After a brief exchange of glances, Lu Xia spoke, looking at him, “Although I’m not your daughter, you raised me after all. When Lu Dong is released, I will take care of him.”

Her father nodded, his expression unchanged, as if he had anticipated this long ago. “Thank you for that.”

Afterward, Lu Xia didn’t say much to them and turned to leave.

It wasn’t until she left the police station that she finally breathed a sigh of relief.

Great! This matter is finally resolved!

Fortunately, her father understood her intentions.

Yes, from the beginning, Lu Xia had been contemplating how to resolve this issue. After all, as long as there was a blood relation, they couldn’t completely sever ties. Father Lu and Mother Lu were still the grandparents of the children.

Avoiding the impact was difficult because, after all, they had committed treason!

So, Lu Xia had to find a way to resolve it from the source.

Since the entanglement arose from blood ties, the solution seemed to lie in negating or denying this blood connection.

However, thinking was easier than doing.

After all, she knew for sure that she was the Lu couple’s biological child, evident from their resemblance.

So, she had to think of another way.

When the Lu couple approached her about Lu Dong, she knew her opportunity had arrived.

If the previous weak spot for the Lu family was her job, now it was undoubtedly Lu Dong.

After all, he was their only son.

As long as it concerned Lu Dong, she believed that the Lu family, or rather, her father, would be willing to do something for him.

So, during their last meeting, she intentionally phrased it that way, knowing that her father would likely understand, given his mindset.

Sure enough, her father didn’t disappoint her.

Chapter 558 – Perfect Resolution

.

Lu Xia didn’t expect that her father would actually find her such a perfect identity—not only was there no evidence, but it also had a blood relation to the Lu family, making it seamless.

Even she couldn’t help but doubt whether they were her biological parents.

However, whether they were or not, she didn’t care anymore; as long as someone believed it.

The police believed it, and the nation believed it, so the matter was indeed true.

After all, in this era, there weren’t many DNA tests available. As long as the investigation confirmed it in the records, it was considered settled.

By the time DNA testing became feasible in the future, people would have likely forgotten about it, and no one would bring it up again.

This was good enough.

The matter was perfectly resolved.

And she believed that her father understood what she meant during their last meeting.

She would take care of Lu Dong—this was their mutual agreement.

She would do it, at least ensuring he wouldn’t starve, but that was the extent of it.

At this point, the matter had come to a close.

After returning, Lu Xia was in a good mood.

Jiang Junmo asked her what happened as soon as he saw her, and Lu Xia didn’t conceal anything, telling him about her background.

Jiang Junmo fell silent for a moment after hearing it, then smiled and said, “That’s good. You probably won’t have to worry about what you were concerned about before.”

Lu Xia nodded, “Yes, I didn’t expect it to be resolved so smoothly.”

“Yeah, it’s good that it’s resolved.”

After the matter was resolved, Lu Xia finally breathed a sigh of relief. It was great; she was officially free from any ties to the Lu family.

However, later on, Lu Qiu did come to find her. She didn’t know where Lu Qiu’s family was, nor did she know how she heard about her running a beauty salon. So, she went to the salon to find her, but since Lu Xia wasn’t there at the time, she didn’t find her.

So, she left an address for Ye Lin, and when Lu Xia went to the salon again, she got the address.

But she didn’t go to meet Lu Qiu, as she already guessed what she wanted to talk about.

So, she didn’t think much about it and focused all her attention on setting up the new store.

As people’s living conditions improved, their pursuit of beauty also increased, making beauty salons more popular.

So, this time they decided to open two branch stores simultaneously.

This made them quite busy.

Even Lu Xia, the hands-off owner, had to help out every day.

Fortunately, the beauty salon was making a good profit, and they had enough money. As long as they put in the funds, things moved quickly. They soon reached the renovation stage, and Lu Xia could finally relax a bit.

And at this time, she finally encountered Lu Qiu again.

Lu Xia wasn’t surprised to see her, but seeing her persistence, she decided to talk to her.

So, she took her to a coffee shop.

After sitting down, she ordered a coffee for her and waited for her to speak.

Lu Qiu carefully took a sip of the coffee and then said, “I was quite curious when I heard my colleague say she had drunk coffee a few times before, but I didn’t expect the taste to be like this. Indeed, foreigners have different tastes from us.”

Lu Xia nodded, “Indeed, but you get used to it after a while.”

Lu Qiu smiled, “I feel like Second Sister has really changed a lot compared to before…”

Lu Xia smiled at her words but didn’t say anything. After all, she had heard similar words from her during their first meeting after returning to the city.

Then Lu Qiu continued, “I heard about the beauty salon from eldest sister. I visited her after she went in. She wanted me to help take care of the child. You know about her in-laws; with three daughters being raised there, only struggles are probably left.”

“Even a vicious tiger will not eat its cubs,” Lu Xia interjected upon hearing this.

  1. Meh. It’s BS that’s it’s too late for her to get her job back. Especially in a controlled economy like China’s. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs praised her so much, can they bear to let her go now that she’s clean again? Her children might be fine in the future now, but I’m still really upset for her.

    1. I don’t think they “praised her so much” to the point that they’d headhunt her after she cleaned up her background. She’s as good as the Cheng guy and her supervisor praised her for being able to adapt in one month. At most, they appreciated her skills and talent. But, she’s not indispensable or all that much important for them. People fall all the times for all kind of reasons and life still must go on.

  2. Wait! The Lu didn’t know about the treason. The Lu parents unwittingly help LC’s husband’s treason attempt and sentenced to 20 years jail time. LC was sentenced to life imprisonment just because she’s his wife, enjoyed the wealth, and persuaded her parents to help him. LD who only received the monetary/materialistic benefits without doing or knowing anything was sentenced to 8 years of jail time. Even LX lost her chance of her dream job by implications.

But! LC’s in-laws are still free outside?! Are you kidding me?

    1. You’re right, that technically doesn’t make sense, especially since I’m sure Lu Chun’s husband’s family also used the shady money without any qualms. My only guess is that because there are still children involved, they probably left the women to take care of them and the men were sent to jail.

I’m just surprised that Lu Chun actually cares about her daughters, considering her in-laws treated her harshly for not giving birth to any sons. Either way, hopefully the daughters can get sufficient support and not learn from their parents’ bad habits and behaviors.

  3. Although I like Father Lu’s setup for Lu Xia’s background, I don’t think he’d actually be that smart to come up with it, especially given his “honest” persona in the book where his lack of shrewdness led to him never getting a promotion in his job and being stuck in the lower rungs of the employees. Regardless, I wonder if Lu Xia’s biological mother, if the background story is true, will show up later and what the connection is between her disappearance and her supposed biological father’s needing to flee overseas.

    Thanks for the chapter! 😀
