Chapter 675 – Poisoned

She didn’t ask, but Su Man spoke of her own accord.

“When Gu Xiangnan and I got married in the countryside, we didn’t get a marriage certificate. Yan Yan was considered my child from an unmarried relationship, and she kept my surname.

Later, when we got married, the registration officer saw that I had a child, and they treated me as a second marriage because Gu Xiangnan didn’t have children. So, according to the policy, a second marriage allows for another child.

I didn’t pay much attention to it at the time, but my mother-in-law kept it in mind and has been urging me to have another child since we got married.

Originally, I didn’t want to have another child; Yan Yan was enough.

But then an accident happened, and I couldn’t bear to ab*rt it, so I had to give birth.”

Lu Xia hadn’t expected this reason, smiled and nodded, “It’s also considered fate.”

“Indeed, I didn’t expect that I would already be the mother of three children.”

Lu Xia also smiled when she heard this, “Don’t say that, it’s been so many years, and I still haven’t fully adapted; I always feel young.”

Su Man carefully looked at her and said, “You haven’t changed much either.”

“You too!”

At this moment, the two young mothers suddenly connected on the same wavelength and laughed together.

Speaking of this, Lu Xia casually asked, “The last time your child was sick, are they doing better now?”

When Su Man heard this, her smile faded a bit, and she nodded, “They’re doing better, but they’re left with a lingering illness. It will take a few more years of care to fully recover.”

Lu Xia was taken aback by this, “What kind of illness? Why is it so serious?”

Su Man sighed, “They were poisoned by someone!”

When she mentioned this, her expression turned cold.

Lu Xia was even more surprised when she heard this. “Who would be so audacious? Poisoning a four-month-old baby is unbelievably cruel!”

“Yes, it’s truly inhumane! And the person responsible, you know them!” Su Man said with a hint of mockery.

“I know them? Who is it? Your enemy?”

“Whether she was an enemy in the past, I don’t know, but she certainly is now. It’s Cheng Yujiao who did it!”

“Her?” Lu Xia understood but then remembered something, “But didn’t Cheng Yujiao go insane after her family fell from grace? I heard she was placed in a mental hospital by the Gu family. How did she get out, and how did she poison the child?”

Clearly infuriated, Su Man revealed a rare expression of gritted teeth.

Lu Xia learned that Cheng Yujiao was quite cunning. Previously, she had feigned madness and not only deceived the Gu family but also the doctors at the mental hospital. After lulling everyone into complacency, she seized an opportunity and escaped without anyone noticing.

After escaping, she didn’t act recklessly. She first hid herself and used a backup plan she had left behind to change her identity.

If she had simply run away in those times without much surveillance and strict scrutiny, she might have gone unnoticed. But she couldn’t let it go.

She hired someone to investigate the current situation of the Gu family. When she found out that Gu Xiangnan had married Su Man and they had even had twin sons, happily married, her discontent grew.

So, she stayed and heard that the Gu family was planning to hire a nanny to take care of the children. She bribed someone and used this opportunity to poison the children.

Of course, she didn’t tell the nanny that it was poison. She claimed it was a sleeping aid so that the children could sleep without requiring constant attention.

The nanny, probably lazy herself, trusted Cheng Yujiao after she repeatedly assured that the dosage was absolutely safe.

Initially, Cheng Yujiao didn’t dare to use too much poison. She tested it a few times and noticed that the children only became drowsy but suffered no apparent ill effects. This eased her concerns.

It was only later when Su Man noticed that the children weren’t right and took them to the hospital for an examination that they discovered they had been poisoned.

Chapter 676 – Love Turns to Hatred

.

Fortunately, the poisoning was discovered in time, and the poison hadn’t taken its full effect. If they had discovered it a few days later, the children might not have been saved.

The nanny, upon hearing about the incident, was terrified and promptly sold out Cheng Yujiao without a second thought.

Su Man and Gu Xiangnan only found out that Cheng Yujiao had managed to escape at this point.

But Cheng Yujiao had already gone into hiding, yet with the Gu family’s and Su Man’s connections in the capital, it didn’t take them long to locate her.

Now Cheng Yujiao and the nanny have been apprehended.

After the children endured so much suffering and were left with lasting effects, it was clear that the Gu family would not let Cheng Yujiao off lightly.

Lu Xia was truly speechless upon hearing this account. Cheng Yujiao had really played a good hand terribly wrong. With her experience of rebirth, she could have lived a good life if she had just stayed away from Gu Xiangnan.

Why did she insist on hanging herself on this one tree?

Lu Xia couldn’t comprehend it, but her expression showed her lack of understanding.

“At first, I couldn’t understand it either,” Su Man explained.

“When she was captured, I went to talk to her, and at that moment, I could tell that she no longer had any crazed love in her eyes when she mentioned Gu Xiangnan.”

“Why is that?”

At this point, Su Man’s expression turned grim. “It might be due to love turning into hatred.”

Cheng Yujiao claimed that she had been pregnant with Gu Xiangnan’s child at one point, but the child was lost after her family’s troubles, which is why she sought revenge.

“What?” Lu Xia was so surprised that she almost stood up!

How could this be? The original male lead, Gu Xiangnan, had a child with someone else?

“However, I asked Gu Xiangnan about it afterward, and he didn’t admit it. He said the child wasn’t his; it belonged to someone else. Cheng Yujiao just thought it was his.”

Lu Xia breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing this, and thought: ‘I knew it.’

“Do you believe him?”

“Yes, why wouldn’t I?” Su Man smiled, “Regardless of whether it’s true or not, I trust him. After all, he’s my husband now. I believe in him, and it’s the only way for us to move forward in our lives.”

Lu Xia listened thoughtfully; Su Man was indeed better at handling such matters than her.

“What about Cheng Yujiao?”

“Her?” Su Man’s expression turned cold, “She will undoubtedly pay for her actions!”

Lu Xia stopped asking further questions after hearing her response.

However, after this incident, she had Jiang Junmo keep an eye on the aftermath.

The outcome was surprising. Somehow, Cheng Yujiao had gone insane again and had been sent back to a mental hospital. But unlike the last time when she had feigned madness, this time, she was genuinely insane!

Lu Xia sighed upon hearing this. She hadn’t expected Su Man to spare her life. She wondered whether Cheng Yujiao found any happiness living in such a wretched state.

With this outcome in mind, Lu Xia thought that the story in the book must be approaching its conclusion. With no further obstacles, the main characters should be shining brightly in their respective fields.

However, after this incident, Lu Xia didn’t pay much attention to them. When summer vacation arrived, seeing Ye Lin still busy at the company every day, Lu Xia offered to help share her workload.

Ye Lin was a bit surprised and said, “How rare! The person who’d rather hand the company over to me and not bother about it is volunteering to work!”

Lu Xia sighed and rolled her eyes, “I’m doing this for you, you know? Have you forgotten that you already have a partner? You don’t know how many complaints I’ve received from Qi Xiao about you being too busy and not having time for him. He urged me to come and rescue you quickly. So, here I am, giving you more time for your love life!”

  1. Gotta give the author credit for writing some stupendously stupid women 😅 CYJ really could have had it all but she couldn’t let things go and suffered. I bet SM had a hand in causing her to go insane… she really is a woman you shouldn’t cross. 😬

  2. Lasting effects and years of recovery. Will they even recover completely? It’d be really nice if Lu Xia could find a way to sneak some magic water into their diets, but I guess it won’t happen.

And I’m really surprised Su Man actually didn’t kill her. It’s not like it would be the first time she committed murder, after all.

    1. After witnessing how SM offed the other transmigrator, I also doubt LX has enough courage to secretly feed the twin babies her spiritual water. Ofc, LX has never crossed SM or malicious toward her. She shouldn’t have any legitimate reason to attack her just because she guessed LX’s special ability. But, SM is still too scary (at least for me 😅) and I have been quite “traumatized” by many “ori-FL”. 😅😅😅

Anyway, I’m glad that LX using her spare time for the company because she wants to make time for YL to pursue her personal life. It’s very rarely done by a protagonist. We can see that both LX and JJM actually treat their family, friends, and subordinates as human.

  3. I’m guessing Su Man’s revenge was using some kind of medicine or something to make Cheng Yujiao go insane, which is actually worse than death because she’ll have to live that way for the rest of her life whereas death just seems too easy an escape.

As for Gu Xiangnan claiming Cheng Yujiao just mistook it as his child, doesn’t that imply that he at least slept with Cheng Yujiao for there to be any possibility? Since he detested her so much, I’m surprised he decided to sleep with her, even if it was for his plan, because he could have just kept her waiting until their supposed wedding. Additionally, since Cheng Yujiao loved him so much, could she possibly sleep with someone else while they were engaged? Kind of disappointed with Gu Xiangnan, but considering the love between Su Man and him isn’t exactly without its ulterior motives, I guess it doesn’t matter all that much in the end.

    Thanks for the chapter! 😀
