Chapter 260 – Chen Li is Pregnant

Even though autumn had not yet passed, the temperature dropped along with one autumn rain after another. It was getting colder. It was the season’s change, and being a bit inattentive could easily lead to catching a cold. Several classmates of Chen Li had caught a cold. During class, the sound of sniffles was constant, almost like a chorus of colds.

During the class meeting, the class adviser reminded everyone to be careful not to catch a cold in this weather. However, as soon as the words were spoken, the adviser himself let out a huge sneeze. Well, he was affected too.

Chen Li suspected that he had also caught a cold. When he woke up in the morning, he felt drowsy and lethargic. He especially wanted to stay in bed and didn’t feel like getting up, no matter how much Wei Chen tried to persuade him.

Later, Wei Chen noticed something was off and offered to help him apply for leave, suggesting he didn’t need to attend class if he felt unwell.

Chen Li shook his head, struggled to get out of bed, brushed his teeth, washed his face swiftly, not wanting to miss any more classes. Due to various reasons during this period, he had already missed several classes, and he really couldn’t afford to miss class just because of a slight discomfort.

Wei Chen let Chen Li have his way, saying he would pick him up at noon to take him to the hospital for a check-up.

Chen Li had always listened to Wei Chen, even though he felt he was making a fuss this time.

By the time Chen Li regained focus in the classroom, the class adviser had finished everything he wanted to say. The main focus was on an upcoming art competition in December jointly organized by their college and ZY Art Institute.

Though it was presented as a joint event, it was essentially a contest between the two institutions, to see which one would dominate if their students made it to the top ten.

In numerous past occasions, both Q University’s School of Fine Arts and ZY Art Institute had their victories and losses, making it hard to determine a clear winner.

However, this was more of an academic exchange between the students of the two institutions, something the teachers observed as a way to encourage interaction among students.

After the class advisers announced this event, every class was excited. They believed that this time, their Q University’s School of Fine Arts would win the exchange, mainly because they had a trump card—Chen Li!

Haven’t you noticed how Chen Li is becoming more and more famous? Even internationally, Chen Li’s name is getting recognition. Just last month, Chen Li was listed in the Forbes Art Ranking, being the youngest on the list and ranking within the top ten!

With Chen Li present, the Q University’s School of Fine Arts was destined to win this exchange competition against ZY Art Institute.

Just when everyone was already basking in the anticipation of victory, the class adviser dropped a bombshell: Chen Li couldn’t participate as a contestant in the competition; otherwise, the competition would lose its excitement.

However, if Chen Li was willing, he could act as a prominent judge this time, evaluating others’ works.

This news made the students who were wilted suddenly come back to life. This was more exhilarating than beating up ZY Art Institute, right?

“Look at your ZY Art Institute students. While you’re toiling away in exhaustion for the competition, our Q University’s students have already become judges, holding the power of life and death in their hands!”

Chen Li’s class suddenly burst into excitement. Everyone directed their hopeful eyes towards Chen Li, hoping that he would act as the judge for this Q University and ZY Art Institute exchange event. This would significantly boost Q University’s reputation! Let’s see how ZY Art Institute could stand tall in front of them!

Just as Chen Li was becoming more alert, he didn’t catch the context. When he regained his focus, he noticed all those eyes fixed on him, leaving him puzzled and innocent.

Everyone had to retract their gazes. The class advisor particularly made a mental note, planning to discuss this matter with Professor Zhuge later, hoping that Professor Zhuge could convince Chen Li to take on this minor task.

This concerned the school’s honor, and as a class advisor, he naturally had to be more attentive.

After attending classes for the morning, Chen Li had two free periods. As he left the lecture hall, someone approached him. However, that person was aware that Chen Li was a person with autism and kept a safe distance to avoid making him feel uncomfortable.

“Chen Li, in December, will you act as a judge for the exchange competition with ZY Art Institute?” the person asked Chen Li.

Chen Li walked with his head down, feeling a bit nervous. He felt the sun glaring intensely above his head. Even though it was early winter, the sun made him feel as if it were a summer sun.

This time, he was genuinely catching a cold.

Chen Li thought to himself, intending to avoid the person who initiated the conversation.

Chen Li was perceptive; he could sense the ill intentions of this person.

“Chen Li, just tell me if you want to be a judge or not,” the person continued to walk alongside Chen Li. Chen Li instinctively quickened his pace, but the person persisted, following closely.

Those who were discreetly protecting Chen Li from the shadows noticed something was amiss. They exchanged glances and swiftly moved forward to shield Chen Li. The person also noticed the figures in the shadow, accelerated their steps, ignoring the safety issue, and attempted to grab Chen Li, who managed to slip away.

At that moment, the man held a fruit knife in his hand and said to the person who came towards Chen Li and wanted to protect Chen Li: “If you come any closer, I’ll kill him! I’ll see whether you’re faster or I am!”

The person, brandishing the knife, waved it in front of Chen Li a few times to intimidate him and those protecting him. However, Chen Li wasn’t frightened by the person. He just felt a bit dizzy, his head pounding. As he reached the staircase and was about to descend, the person’s knife swiped in his direction. Chen Li didn’t panic, but his instincts made him involuntarily draw his feet back. However, as he stepped back, he found himself stepping into an empty space. Before his mind could react, he tumbled down the stairs.

The staircase was relatively high, at least half a floor’s height.

It was strange; when Chen Li tumbled, instead of protecting his head, he instinctively shielded his belly, as if there was something important inside it.

The sudden turn of events left the knife-wielding person stunned. He had just intended to scare Chen Li a bit and then abduct him unharmed. But how did he fall down the stairs?

Before he could comprehend, those protecting Chen Li swiftly moved in and subdued him.

Chen Li lay on the ground, his head had collided during the tumble, causing a trickle of blood. But what was most alarming was not the injury to his forehead but his lower body. It had taken a hit during the fall, and blood was flowing, pooling around him quickly.

Lan Xiping happened to be on his way to the art school to find Chen Li. He overheard discussions, caught Chen Li’s name, and rushed over. He pushed through the crowd gathered to see the commotion and found Chen Li curled up on the ground. “Chen Li!”

Lan Xiping ran to Chen Li’s side. He was covered with injuries from the fall, his face deathly pale, curling up in pain, yet instinctively protecting his stomach as if there was something irreplaceable inside.

Seeing Lan Xiping, Chen Li managed to utter, “Xiping, save me.”

Lan Xiping felt a bit panicked but quickly forced himself to stay calm. Using his acquired knowledge, he administered first aid to Chen Li, encouraging and comforting him, urging him to hold on.

As the blood continued to flow from Chen Li, Lan Xiping observed the situation, feeling something was amiss. He immediately called Professor Wang Kaijie.

Upon hearing about Chen Li’s situation, Wang Kaijie immediately instructed, “Take him to Ci’en Hospital right away. Do not go to any other hospital!” His tone was uncompromising, as if not sending him to Ci’en Hospital would lead to severe consequences.

Lan Xiping trusted his teacher. When the ambulance arrived, he persistently requested that they take Chen Li to Ci’en Hospital. However, the ambulance belonged to Q University Affiliated Hospital and couldn’t immediately transport the patient to another hospital. Fortunately, Wang Kaijie had anticipated this. Before hanging up with Lan Xiping, he had already called the Q University Affiliated Hospital and arranged everything.

With a clear path, the ambulance arrived at Ci’en Hospital ten minutes later. Outside the hospital, Wang Kaijie and the medical staff were waiting. As they received Chen Li from the ambulance, they swiftly took him to the emergency room.

Only then did Lan Xiping have a moment to spare, so he called Wei Chen.

When Wei Chen received Lan Xiping’s call, he was at Q University Affiliated Hospital and felt utterly confused. He had been informed that Chen Li was taken away by the hospital’s ambulance, assuming he was brought to the Q University Affiliated Hospital. But after inquiring at the front desk, Chen Li was nowhere to be found.

This fueled Wei Chen’s aggression to an unprecedented level. He exuded an aura that made everyone in the hospital avoid him, displaying an ominous presence.

Upon receiving Lan Xiping’s call, Wei Chen hastily left Q University Affiliated Hospital. But before he could get into his car, he encountered Jiang Ye. “Xiping asked me to take you to Ci’en Hospital.” Jiang Ye drove over, concerned that Wei Chen, in his anxious state, might get into an accident while driving, so he came to fetch him.

Wei Chen understood that he was not in a suitable state to drive at that moment, so he got into Jiang Ye’s car.

It wasn’t until he was seated in the car that Wei Chen noticed Jiang Ye wasn’t the one driving; instead, it was a robust driver with a military bearing.

Coincidentally, Jiang Ye needed the Sheng family’s car today, which had a military license plate. The driver, accustomed to driving in the military, possessed exceptional driving skills. Despite regular traffic, the journey that typically took over twenty minutes was completed in just ten under the driver’s expertise.

The car barely came to a stop before Wei Chen jumped out and rushed straight to the emergency room.

From a distance, Lan Xiping spotted Wei Chen’s figure and waved, “Mr. Wei, over here.”

Wei Chen hurried over without a word, standing at the entrance of the emergency room, waiting for news.

Wei Chen’s current state was bad. His body was tensed, his nerves seemingly tightly strung, any slight stimulation could snap them, hands clenched, eyes red, his whole demeanor icy.

Jiang Ye also rushed over. He approached Lan Xiping and asked, “What happened?”

Lan Xiping leaned over and whispered to Jiang Ye, “For some unknown reason, Chen Li fell down the stairs at the school, and his condition seems off. Teacher asked me to take him to Ci’en Hospital.”

Jiang Ye didn’t inquire further; he sensed Lan Xiping’s concern. He reached out, holding Lan Xiping’s hand, reassuring him, “Chen Li will be fine, don’t worry.”

Lan Xiping nodded, “He will be okay.” His voice was neither loud nor soft, as if reassuring himself and the tensed person standing in front.

The wait felt like an eternity. At the emergency room entrance, Wei Chen remained statue-like, immobile. Only when the lights in the emergency room turned off did Wei Chen finally move.

Wei Chen anxiously stared at the closed door, sweating in his palms. The mere seconds while the door was about to open felt like an eternity, his breath involuntarily hastening.

As the door opened, Wang Kaijie stepped out and nodded in response to Wei Chen’s eager gaze. “Don’t worry, he’s fine.”

Wei Chen’s pent-up tension slowly dissipated, and the heavy weight pressing on his chest seemed to lift.

“He’s resting now. Come with me; I have something to discuss,” Wang Kaijie said, looking towards Lan Xiping. “You come too, to avoid any further confusion if a similar situation arises again.”

Under Wang Kaijie’s guidance, Wei Chen and Lan Xiping followed him to the office of the attending physician. Wang Kaijie dismissed everyone else from the office and gestured for Wei Chen and Lan Xiping to sit in front of him before he began, “What I’m about to say might exceed your current understanding, but you must know that this world is filled with countless wonders. What we don’t know or believe simply comes from lack of exposure.”

Lan Xiping looked at Wang Kaijie, unsure of what he was implying.

Wei Chen, who had just learned something extraordinary yesterday, already had a faint inkling of what Wang Kaijie was about to say.

“Xiping, Mr. Wei Chen, what I am about to tell you is that in this world, it’s not only women who can become pregnant and give birth. Certain men also have the ability to bear children. They possess genes for childbirth, looking no different from ordinary men. Until now, science has been unable to explain where or how they conceive, but this phenomenon does exist,” Wang Kaijie explained.

Lan Xiping, quick-witted, immediately connected Wang Kai Jie’s words to the scene he had witnessed, akin to a woman suffering a miscarriage. No wonder things seemed off to him!

When Lan Xiping grasped the situation, he looked at his teacher with astonishment. “Teacher, you mean Chen Li…”

Lan Xiping didn’t finish his sentence, as he was momentarily at a loss for words.

Wei Chen also fixed his gaze on Wang Kaijie, a rare hint of urgency in his expression.

Wang Kaijie nodded. “Yes, just as you both suspect, Chen Li is pregnant.”

“Teacher, is Chen Li okay after that fall? I saw him bleeding a lot!” Lan Xiping asked, filled with concern.
