Chapter 338 – Unexpected Encounter at the Restaurant

A new restaurant opened downstairs of the Changfeng Group before the New Year. It was a Chinese restaurant, and according to the Changfeng Group employees who had dined there, the taste was exceptionally good, worth a visit.

Since Chen Li was visiting the Changfeng Group today, Wei Chen went to the restaurant downstairs to have a meal with Chen Li.

It was the peak dining time, and most of the customers in the restaurant were employees from nearby companies, with the majority being from the Changfeng Group.

So when Wei Chen walked into the restaurant with Qiuqiu and Chen Li, many eyes from the customers couldn’t help but focus on this family of three.

Firstly, this family was very good-looking, and moreover, they were a same-sex couple. Secondly, Wei Chen held a special position as the General Manager of the Changfeng Group, having an unusual status in the minds of the employees. Seeing the general manager accompanied by his family naturally sparked curiosity.

Of course, some employees had seen Chen Li before. After all, when Wei Chen had just started working at Changfeng, he was with Chen Li. It’s just that they hadn’t expected that after a few years, Wei Chen would still be with Chen Li, and their relationship seemed even better.

Wei Chen and Chen Li had grown accustomed to these gazes directed at them and calmly found a place to sit.

The waiter came to take their order. Chen Li looked at the menu, his big eyes sparkling, unsure of what to choose. Later, he simply handed the menu to Wei Chen, asking him to help decide.

Wei Chen ordered several dishes according to Chen Li’s taste and handed the menu back to the waiter.

Qiuqiu, with his big curious eyes, looked around. When he saw the delicious food on other tables, he stared at them, his big, round eyes adorable.

During this time, another group entered the restaurant—youthful-looking individuals carrying drawing boards. They seemed to be university students.

Today, Zhou Zhuoran went nearby with classmates for a sketching session and chose a restaurant nearby. As soon as he entered, he noticed Wei Chen, Chen Li, their family of three sitting in the corner. However, he didn’t approach them as they weren’t very familiar.

Zhou Zhuoran hadn’t intended to go over, but his classmate noticed Chen Li. His eyes instantly lit up, and he nudged Zhou Zuoran, asking, “Zhuoran, isn’t that Chen Li?”

Chen Li had gained considerable fame in the art world. His art exhibitions attracted many viewers and had become an idol for some art students. However, due to Chen Li’s low profile and rare appearances in public, aside from those who had interacted with Chen Li, others weren’t very familiar with his appearance.

But Zhou Zhuoran’s classmate recognized Chen Li. He had seen Chen Li’s photos from a high school friend who was currently at the Q University’s School of Fine Arts. So, as soon as he saw Chen Li, he immediately recognized him, feeling a bit excited.

The classmate’s voice wasn’t loud but audible enough for others nearby, prompting them to ask, “Chen Li? Where? Where?”

“Yeah? Mr. Chen Li is also in this restaurant? I heard he’s quite young! Where is he?”

Zhou Zhuoran furrowed his brow but nodded nonetheless. Upon confirmation, the classmate became excited, about to walk towards Chen Li, but Zhou Zhuoran reached out and stopped him.

“What’s up, Zhou Zhuoran?” the classmate asked displeased.

Zhou Zhuoran frowned, “I should be asking you what you’re doing? Mr. Chen Li and his family are having a meal; let’s not disturb them.”

The classmate sneered, a bit sarcastically, “Zhou Zhuoran, you’re different from us. You can meet any artist with just a word from a teacher. But we’re not the same. We rarely get a chance to meet Mr. Chen Li. Are you going to stop us?”

Zhou Zhuoran had no intention of doing so, but since the other person spoke that way, he knew explaining would be futile, so he let go.

After casting a glance at Zhou Zhuoran, the classmate walked toward the table where Chen Li and Wei Chen were sitting. After a moment of hesitation, other classmates didn’t want to miss this chance either and followed suit.

Zhou Zhuoran’s expression soured a bit. In the end, he didn’t follow but found an empty seat and sat down.

Chen Li leaned over and talked to Wei Chen about the morning class. When he turned back, he saw a dozen young people standing in front of him, eagerly looking at him.

Chen Li had significantly improved with his autism and could now interact with people normally. However, facing a dozen strangers staring at him eagerly all at once made him a bit uncomfortable. He shifted closer to Wei Chen and lowered his head.

The classmates were oblivious to Chen Li’s discomfort. The one who led the group spoke up directly, “Hello, Mr. Chen Li. I… I’m from ZY Art Institute. It’s great to meet you. Do you have any time to give us some guidance?”

The classmate initiated the conversation, and naturally, others didn’t want to be left behind; being guided by Chen Li was a rare opportunity. They chattered incessantly, and Chen Li couldn’t hear what they were saying.

Qiuqiu was also frightened by these people and shrank into Wei Chen’s arms, crying out loudly.

“You’ve frightened my child,” Wei Chen’s voice was cold, filled with displeasure.

Only then did these classmates notice Wei Chen beside Chen Li. Wei Chen’s displeasure exuded a strong presence—his cold face and stern aura, coupled with his displeased tone, silenced these students immediately.

“We… We just wanted Mr. Chen Li to guide us,” the leader of the classmates murmured, showing some dissatisfaction in his tone.

“Why? Why should Mr. Chen Li guide you? Just because you rudely came over and scared Mr. Chen Li’s child?” Zhou Zhuoran finally came over and, upon standing, heard the classmates’ presumptuous words, unable to help but retort.

These people thought too highly of themselves! Why should he force himself to fit in with these people just for their opinions? Meanwhile, Qiuqiu continued crying, whimpering on Wei Chen’s shoulder.

The adorable child’s crying tugged at people’s hearts. Other diners in the restaurant couldn’t help but reprimand these students. Moreover, when the general manager’s child was scared into tears, they were determined to support and speak up for him.

These students were in their early twenties, most sensitive to criticism and disdain. Their faces flushed, wishing they could disappear.

Only the lead classmate seemed indignant, a hint of resentment in his expression. “Chen Li, don’t think you’re so great! Just because you held an art exhibition, you think you’re almighty? What if the theme changes? Will people still care about you then?”

“Feng Tianyang, what nonsense are you spouting?” Zhou Zhuoran stepped forward to pull away this Feng Tianyang, wanting to shut him up.

However, Wei Chen was furious. “Waiter!”

The restaurant manager hurried over, intending to persuade Feng Tianyang to leave. But upon recognizing him, the manager sweated profusely. This young master, why does he always stir up trouble?

The restaurant manager quickly approached Wei Chen, whispering, “Mr. Wei, I’m terribly sorry. Today’s meal is all on the house due to the inadequate service. I hope you can forgive us.” Not a word was mentioned about Feng Tianyang’s behavior.

Feng Tianyang lifted his head with a sense of pride. So what if he made Chen Li’s child cry in his family’s restaurant? If you’re unhappy, then leave!

Wei Chen noticed the restaurant manager’s attitude but remained silent, sitting with a stern face. Other customers in the restaurant also murmured in disapproval.

The restaurant manager felt a surge of resentment in his heart. He approached Feng Tianyang again, suggesting, “Young Master, why don’t you apologize to Mr. Wei?”

As the restaurant situated beneath the Changfeng Group, they naturally knew Wei Chen was the general manager. Being the general manager of a Fortune Global 500 company, his status was much higher than their young master’s. Even if the boss were here, he would make their young master apologize to Wei Chen.

“Apologize to him?” Feng Tianyang’s voice involuntarily rose. “Why the hell should I apologize? This is my family’s restaurant. If he doesn’t like it, he can leave!”

“Young Master!” The restaurant manager became anxious, whispering to Feng Tianyang, “Young Master, you or the boss can’t afford to offend Mr. Wei!”

The restaurant manager was truly distressed by Feng Tianyang’s lack of intelligence. This was the capital city. Encountering anyone outside might mean encountering influential figures. Their backgrounds overshadowed their young master’s by miles. Yet, their young master always acted as if he were supreme. If he offended someone he shouldn’t, the restaurant would be in trouble!

Ignoring Feng Tianyang, the restaurant manager sincerely apologized to Wei Chen again before directly calling the boss. This was something he couldn’t handle; it was better to let the boss deal with it!

A few minutes later, the restaurant’s owner arrived. Without a word, he slapped Feng Tianyang across the face and then turned to Wei Chen with a smile. “Mr. Wei, I’m terribly sorry. My son was mischievous and just now was quite offensive. Today, the expenses for you and all Changfeng Group employees are on me. I hope Mr. Wei can forgive us.”

The restaurant owner not only knew Wei Chen was the general manager of Changfeng Group but also understood Wei Chen’s close connections with some influential families in the capital. If he offended this person severely, he wouldn’t be able to survive in the capital!

Wei Chen remained silent, gently patting Qiuqiu’s back to soothe him.

The restaurant owner felt awkward, turning to lead Feng Tianyang away after giving him another slap. “Mr. Wei, I’ll take my son away now. I won’t let him soil your eyes again.”

With those words, he dragged a bewildered and angry Feng Tianyang away. There were still two distinct palm prints on Feng Tianyang’s face, indicating that the restaurant owner hadn’t held back.

As the restaurant owner escorted Feng Tianyang away, the restaurant manager hurriedly approached, apologizing profusely. Wei Chen wasn’t someone who wouldn’t relent when justice was served. However, he couldn’t continue the meal under these circumstances. He carried Qiuqiu, embraced Chen Li, and left.

Changfeng Group’s employees watched Wei Chen’s departing figure, feeling that their general manager had an overwhelmingly charismatic partner!
