Chapter 377 – Collective Divestment

Regarding the acquisition of this company, many within the Wei Corporation had previously expressed their agreement. Wei Chen, at present, stood as the pivotal figure within the Wei Corporation, gradually stabilizing the teetering structure of Wei’s enterprise. Shareholders still held faith in Wei Chen’s vision.

Among shareholders, a saying circulated: “Follow Wei Chen and you’ll have meat to eat.” Though not particularly refined, it aptly conveyed the shareholders’ trust in Wei Chen.

However, while most showed support, there existed a faction that opposed it. It seemed these individuals weren’t against the acquisition project itself, but were merely opposing Wei Chen.

Initially, when Wei Zhenxiong and the Chen family struck their deal, it wasn’t solely to win over Wei Zhenxiong. It gradually infiltrated their own influence.

Upon assuming Wei Corporation, Wei Chen was preoccupied with its affairs and had no time to deal with these people. He had initially thought to let them be if they behaved, tolerating their arrogance for a few more days.

However, their overt and covert attempts to hinder Wei Chen now, aiming to hasten Wei Corporation’s recovery, became unacceptable.

Yet, these individuals were unaware that Wei Chen had thoroughly understood their backgrounds. When Wei Chen made the decision to acquire, one among them slammed the table fiercely, saying, “I disagree! Wei Corporation has already taken on the port project. Given its current situation, where does it have the spare funds for company acquisitions?”

“Yes, Chairman, we acknowledge your contributions to Wei Corporation’s revival. But, as the saying goes, ‘Don’t try to bite off more than you can chew.’ Wei Corporation is gradually getting on track. It’s time for stability, not rapid expansion. Otherwise, moving too fast will lead to unimaginable consequences,” another shareholder earnestly advised.

Then ensued a barrage of persuasive speeches urging Wei Chen not to acquire the company. Wei Chen remained silent throughout, sitting at the head of the table, absorbing every word.

When they finally stopped, Wei Chen scanned the room with an icy gaze, memorizing everyone’s expressions before slowly stating, “There’s no room for negotiation in this acquisition case.”

Wei Chen’s voice was cold and devoid of warmth.

As this statement echoed, the entire room fell silent, and the expressions of those opposing became increasingly grim.

Since Wei Chen was determined to confront them head-on, they were willing to accompany him to the end. They wanted to see what capabilities Wei Chen possessed to outlast them.

Wei Corporation’s current funds were already tied up in the port project. They refused to believe that without their investment, Wei Chen’s acquisition plan could continue.

“Chairman, if you insist on pursuing this acquisition, then we’ll divest! We invested in Wei Corporation to make money, not to foot the bill for your youthful exuberance,” one person stated emphatically, as if foreseeing the failure of this acquisition. “Yes, if you’re really going through with it, we’ll divest.”

“I’m divesting too!”

One after another, voices echoed with divestment threats. These were undeniably serious threats.

Even those who had firmly stood by Wei Chen now felt a bit shaken witnessing this situation. They looked at Wei Chen, tentatively asking, “Chairman, should we reconsider this acquisition?”

If these shareholders divested, it wouldn’t just impact the acquisition; it could potentially affect the construction of the port in the city, which played a pivotal role in Wei Corporation’s turnaround. If that failed, Wei Corporation might not recover.

The shareholders’ concerns were not baseless, and gradually, more people began to waver, their faces showing signs of hesitation.

Wei Chen’s gaze was cold, his voice icy, “Are you finished? If you’re done, it’s my turn to speak.”

“Those who want to divest can take your money and leave right now. I, Wei Chen, will not say a word more to keep you here.”

His words were as chilling as a thunderbolt on a clear day. In an instant, everyone’s gaze fell upon Wei Chen, filled with disbelief.

What did Wei Chen mean? Was he really letting anger cloud his judgment? What would happen to Wei Corporation if these shareholders divested?

“Chairman, please don’t act on impulse!” someone immediately advised, a tinge of sorrow on their face. Wei Corporation had struggled so hard to get to this point; they couldn’t afford to regress now.

Wei Chen replied, “I’ve said my piece. Those who want to divest can leave now.”

No need to retain them; these people would divest someday. They wanted to push Wei Corporation into a corner, preventing its recovery.

They wanted to see Wei Chen’s downfall, but they never considered that Wei Chen’s downfall wasn’t something just anyone could witness.

“Good, good, good!” one person stood up, his expression somewhat sinister. He tried to display anger but ended up revealing his delight, making his expression appear grim. He spitefully said, “Wei Chen, you’re something. I admire your backbone. When Wei Corporation announces bankruptcy, don’t forget to invite me to witness it. I want to see how ugly Wei Corporation will die in your hands!”

“Leave. No need for goodbyes,” Wei Chen said, his gaze icy.

He truly wasn’t afraid of their divestment.

The person stormed out, but by the time he reached the door, any hint of anger had vanished, his mouth nearly stretching to his ears.

“Wei Chen, let me see if you really have the skills to revive Wei Corporation from the brink of death!”

Wei Chen didn’t even bother to glance his way as he left. Instead, he asked, “Now, anyone else planning to divest?”

A few more individuals stood up one after another, exchanged harsh words with Wei Chen, and then left in a huff.

Wei Chen stood tall at the head of the room, not bothering to stop a single person.

In the conference room, other shareholders looked troubled but ultimately gritted their teeth and remained in their seats.

Their intuition told them that Wei Chen would demonstrate limitless possibilities. Not divesting would be a decision they wouldn’t regret.

Even so, most of the room had cleared out. Wei Chen, still at the main seat, didn’t show a hint of embarrassment and continued, “Let’s proceed with the meeting and discuss the acquisition plan.”

Without the disturbance caused by those people, the meeting progressed smoothly.

Twenty minutes later, it concluded, and the framework for the entire acquisition plan had been outlined.

“Meeting adjourned.”

Wei Chen gathered the meeting materials and declared the end. However, the remaining shareholders in the room didn’t leave. They were waiting for one sentence, a sentence that would put their minds at ease.

Wei Chen understood what they wanted. With determination in his eyes and a resolute tone, he said, “Rest assured. Since you’ve chosen to trust me, I won’t let your trust go to waste.”

That sentence acted as a soothing balm, calming the hearts of those shareholders.

As the meeting dispersed, Wei Chen returned to his office. Chen Li and Qiuqiu were still watching cartoons. When they heard him, they turned around simultaneously, their identical faces breaking into identical smiles.

“Achen.”

Almost simultaneously, the two most important people in Wei Chen’s life called out to him.

Wei Chen felt all his exhaustion dissipate, feeling instantly at ease. He walked over, embraced both of them, kissed Chen Li and then Qiuqiu, asking, “What do you want to eat tonight?”

Chen Li replied, “Anything’s fine.”

Qiuqiu said, “Ah, ah, ah.” Nobody understood what he meant, so they simply ignored it.

Wei Chen mentioned the name of a restaurant, and Chen Li naturally nodded in agreement.

Just hearing the name made him feel hungry, and his stomach rumbled. “Achen, I’m hungry,” Chen Li said unabashedly, looking at Wei Chen with a straightforward gaze.

Qiuqiu raised his hand while in Chen Li’s embrace, saying, “Hugwy, hugwy.” Not content with that, he patted his own belly, resembling a little bouncing ball.

The two dads were delighted by Qiuqiu’s adorable actions and couldn’t help but each give him a kiss.

Qiuqiu was thoroughly satisfied being kissed by both dads, his big eyes forming into a smile like a line.

“Let’s go. I’ll take you and Qiuqiu out for dinner,” Wei Chen said, picking up Qiuqiu.

Chen Li nodded eagerly, saying, “Great.”

When it came to food, Chen Li and Qiuqiu, this father-son duo, didn’t hold back.

The next day, news spread like wildfire throughout the city.

Wei Corporation’s shareholders had collectively divested!

This news once again stirred up waves in the business circles of the city, drawing everyone’s attention back to Wei Corporation.

To everyone’s eyes, the collective divestment of Wei Corporation’s shareholders was a devastating blow for the company. It couldn’t be denied that Wei Corporation was still in its infancy, in dire need of funds, especially with many projects already tying up its finances. With the shareholders divesting, it seemed like a death knell for Wei Corporation!

Hence, Wei Corporation, which had just shown some progress, seemed to have died again in the eyes of outsiders. And this time, it seemed unlikely for it to resurrect.

Various sectors sympathized with Wei Corporation, but they couldn’t resist thinking about how to seize an opportunity from Wei Corporation’s misfortune.

In the stock market, Wei Corporation’s stocks, which had recently turned green, reverted to red after this news. It was like a roller coaster ride, and the investors were grumbling. Now, it seemed that no one had faith in Wei Corporation anymore. When Wei Chen had saved it previously, it wasn’t his making; however, this time the crisis emerged from Wei Chen’s hands. Did Wei Chen still possess the ability to revive it?

On this matter, many people’s answers were negative.

In the business circles of the city, a collective sigh echoed.

It seemed that Wei Corporation was truly in trouble, and it was tough for the young talent Wei Chen. Despite using all his skills, he couldn’t rescue the elderly Wei Corporation on the verge of collapse, ending up sacrificing himself in the process.

It was pitiful, truly pitiful!

However, while sympathizing on the surface, these people were secretly planning how to absorb Wei Corporation.

Wei Corporation had once again encountered a massive challenge.
